yes I have to question how many albums austin has actually played to death at his tender age, he seems to know just about every band under the sun. also I remember him claiming he was burnt out on literature in some thread on the review site

dude is gonna be the most world weary 18 yr old when he starts coming of age
 what a fag

Morumbar 02-12-2011 10:52 AM

I think anyone who claims to have read every book worth reading or listened to every band worth hearing is simply not looking hard enough.

Like those douchebags who claim that they only made good music in the 60's and 70's. Fuck, even if that really is the only music you like, there are plenty of underground bands still doing exactly that shit, so there will always be tons of artists to discover.

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 02:01 PM

I didn't say I'd read every good book worth readin or listened to every band worth hearing, I just said that I hadn't read for a while because I'd been burned out on it. Was never much of a reader, and if you talk to me about books outside "the essentials" I'll probably be twiddling my thumbs in a corner.

"1. download every drone album mentioned on sputnik and RYM
2. rate all of them 4.5 or above"

And yeah 71 4.5s on rym so many.

Tyler 02-12-2011 02:03 PM

you are running the risk of burning yourself out, like we've all done when we were younger. it's like you're on a crusade to collect and check off as many albums as you can. it's normal and good to do when you're young but like i'd slow down soon

Nepenthe 02-12-2011 02:04 PM

i remember 4 years ago when i set out to listen to every viking metal band in existence

i think i did

i haven't listened to viking metal since

Tyler 02-12-2011 02:05 PM

was actually going to reference that yeah

FatalEnergy 02-12-2011 02:10 PM

I did that with thrash when I was like 15-16. Now I only listen to like 4 or 5 thrash bands.

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 02:12 PM

Yeah I just got over the 1800 mark on rym I think I'll just be living with my collection for a bit. I mean a few years ago was when I started listening to "good music" when I came across GY!BE in an f.y.e., and I thought the name was funny enough to warrant me buying S.r.f.n.z.k. used. Then for a bit I was open to literally everything, and then I was determined to find out what I liked and then I became obsessed with finding whatever I could from these genres. And for a while it's just been me expanding.

Tyler 02-12-2011 02:18 PM

yea no it's totally good to do i'm just giving the warning that it's super easy to fry yourself out. it kinda sucks not knowing everything being talked about all the time now but it makes looking them up kinda cool too

Nepenthe 02-12-2011 02:19 PM

you get so much more out of the music when you actually give it repeated listens and get to know it well rather than just downloading an album listening to it once and then downloading another and repeating

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 02:21 PM

yeah generally i have a super-addictive personality (it even runs on my dad's side) and so I find it really hard to burn out and I find it hard to think of being able to burn out on things.

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 02:22 PM

I listen to all of my albums at least twice. If I don't like it by two deep solitary listens and no one that I know regards it as a grower I bid it sayonara.

Morumbar 02-12-2011 03:04 PM

I tend to mostly stick to the music collection I have and sometimes pick up something on S4D or something I found via last.fm, and I have these friends that check out a hell of a lot of new bands and want to talk to me about it and I'll be like: yeah, I guess I've come across that name before, but that's it.

Juddybear 02-12-2011 05:06 PM
I never bothered to check out that band. I've just heard the cover Nargaroth does of them.
better than nargaroth

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 05:27 PM

juddy did you check out kkk or northern occultism yet?
btw s/t and kkk suck equally if you are wondering

Juddybear 02-12-2011 08:49 PM

didnt check out kkk because i dont feel like being disappointed

what band did northern occultism?

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 10:00 PM

Triangulum and Tzalemoth.
Reminds me of that dirty Breno vibe you like.
Also get Vacuus's Demo.

Juddybear 02-12-2011 10:02 PM

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 10:11 PM

what constitutes a grower or an instant love for someone else doesn't necessarily mean it'll do the same thing for you

sometimes it takes several listens with time spaced out in between (I don't know exactly why, but this can really help change perspective somehow) for me to begin to like an album. near instant dismissal is a really bad habit for me, so I try and work against it

Juddybear 02-12-2011 10:25 PM

i am downloading northern occultism right now, this better not suck youve been jocking it mad hard

Aakon_Keetreh 02-12-2011 10:37 PM

bitchfork i cant get into funeral stench, is the same happening for you?

Juddybear 02-12-2011 10:40 PM

lurking in the swamp is an awesome song, have high hopes for the rest of this split, though it is sooo raw

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 10:41 PM

Nope. Comes up with some Permission Denied B.S. Probably under reconstruction since he said that it was gonna stay open. Try Philia Review, his other blog, and if that doesn't work, then I'd be more concerned that he's shutting shit down. Or try going into it from google.

Does RYM work for you?

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 10:43 PM

My favorite tracks are Black Tomb and Spectral Whispering Woods. Marchosias is by far the worst.

Triangulum side>Tzalemoth.

Juddybear 02-12-2011 10:44 PM

thanks for the rec man, i really like this a lot

Bitchfork 02-12-2011 10:47 PM
thanks for the rec man, i really like this a lot
you're welcome.

and yes i know he is not closing i even said so!
probably mass reconstruction because he did that with purestench and i think philia but i might be wrong. maybe he's just getting rid of all the shit shit on there.
