Is it any good? |
My Dad showed me the Clash, they were one of the first bands I liked when I started playing drums.
|
awesome. Topper Header is a preety good drummer.
|
So I'm not really a person who likes punk, I normally listen to old rock or progressieve rock or post rock.
I always try to broaden my music taste and London Calling by The Clash was very high rated. And after listening it a few times, I'm in love with it, I adore London Calling and Train By Vain. Great punk, very diverse :) |
The London Calling album, really wasn't that "punk" thats when they started expirmenting, none the less, its their best album.
If you wanna here the real punk material check out their Self Titled album and Give Em Enough Rope. |
Any fans of Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros?
|
I quite like them. I got my dad Streetcore for his birthday or something the year after Joe died and since then I've gotten Rock Art... Some of their stuff is a little too experimental for me, and some of his lyrics are kind of mediocre, but it's good stuff.
|
Yeah, I really enjoy them as well. I love their cover of Redemption Song and the song Coma Girl is amazing.
|
I love Redemption Song. I've never heard Joe's duet with Johnny Cash on that, but I assume it would be awesome.
|
I can't remember where but I know I recently heard it. It was pretty good.
Streetcore is an amazing album. |
Any fans of Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros?
Probably one of my favorite bands and definitely the best post-clash work of any band member. All three albums are great but different. Can't really choose a favorite. I reviewed Streetcore and Rock Art on sputnik too.. |
One of the pastors at my church(one of the radder people, I know, BTW) kept talking about The Clash in sermon he gave a couple weeks back. He based it around lyrics to Should I Stay Or Should I Go.
|
You should leave the church.

That truly saddens me. |
I have a live recording on dvd with the Mescaleros playing a cover of Rudi Can't Fail, it's awesome.
|
I don't know if you all are aware but in the reno 911 Miami movie there was a HORRENDOUS cover of police and thieves. butchered it.
|
You should leave the church.
And burn it... Mr. Hot shot moderator has the Redemption Song version with Johnny Cash. Everyone ask him for it. |
RIP JoE!
I love pretty much everything Joe Strummer did.He was awesome. You didn't say anything about all his political views and the causes and all these stuff, and in my opinion, it was a big part of his life, but it was good anyway.

I heard the, well, I'm not sure it's the original, but I think it's what the Clash were basing theirs on, but it was Junior Murvin's version in Rude Boy, and it kind of sucked. I only heard it once a long time ago, but I remember his voice being like ridiculously high pitched. |
A tribute to the Clash!
Me & my troop of middle-aged punks will be playing support to a Clash tribute band in Aberdeen, Scotland on St Patrick's night. This is just a heads up for Jimmy McJazz and any other boarders in this neck of the woods who might want to come along.
The Clash tribute is called REBEL TRUCE. I've never seen them before but their versions sound OK. I'll let you know how it goes after the show if anyone's interested. http://www.myspace.com/therebeltruce and i love this tribute you must watch this one... Hey check this one...
I love Stay Free. One of 2 Clash songs that mentions Brixton, and one of my favorite album(The Sex Pistols).
The Sex Pistols may have been the first British punk rock band, but the Clash were the definitive British punk rockers. Where the Pistols were nihlistic, the Clash were fiery and idealistic, charged with righteousness and a leftist political ideology. From the outset, the band was more musically adventurous, expanding their hard rock & roll with reggae, dub, and rap rockabilly among other roots musics. Furthermore, they were blessed with two exceptional songwriters in Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, each with a distinctive voice and style. The Clash copped heavily from classic outlaw imagery, positioning themselves as rebels with a cause. As a result, they won a passionately devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic. While they became rock & roll heroes in the UK, second only to the Jam in terms of popularity, it took the Clash several years to break into the American market and when they finally did in 1982, they imploded several months later. Though the Clash never became the superstars they always threatened to become, they restored passion and protest to rock & roll. For a while, they really did seem like "the only band that mattered. and just check this one... the documentary film of joe strummer The Future is Unwritten. its features contributions from Bono, Martin Scorsese, Johnny Depp and John Cusack. The film features footage of his early life as well as rare clips of the band. and its 18th of may 2007 the release date of the future is unwritten... |

Srsly. It looks like it's out of a magazine or something too. I virtually never listen to this band. I've never been crazy about them. |
Yeah I've never liked them. Definintely in my top 5 most overrated bands.
|
I used to like them cause all punk were supposed to in 8th Grade but now I don't like them at all.
|
I think they are very good, but I can definitely see why people would think they're overrated. I often listen to London Calling when I'm with friends who don't usually like punk. It's a very easy album to get into and many people like it.
|
Ahh excuse me!

Lol, no silly. I just doubt they'll really have anything insightful to say. |
Well they're all older than you and me and were actually around when the Clash were around so I'm pretty sure they would. I dunno I could care less.
|
I've been digging Sandinita! alot lately. Up in Heaven and Somebody Got Murdered are classics. Also, Career Oppertunities is cute.
