I just listened to Animals for the first time in ages. Pigs (3 Different Ones) and Sheep are such wonderful songs. I'd forgotten how much I liked it.
I agree... But I'm still in love with Dogs over any other song on Animals. |
This is true. Dogs is sheer class. Then again, the whole album is.
|
Yes and Dogs has awesome guitar work. Maybe not as good as Comfortably Numb's second solo but on the whole better work.
|
Animals is an incredible album the whole way through.
|
"Sheep" has incredible lyrics.
Same goes for the whole album but more so on "Sheep." |
Sheep has the best lyrics, definitely. Karate-learning sheep is one hell of a concept.
The Final Cut is my favourite lyrical work though. Roger was in his prime just before he jumped ship, I think. |
Animals is boring.
|
Animals is boring.
Sometimes I think so too. Though I love the album, the songs in general get rather repetitive. They all have the same basic design where they start off with doing their own thing, go into a breakdown with funky animal noises, then come back into doing their own thing again. |
I can see how some might think Animals is boring. Personally, it's my favorite.
|
I have Dark Side and The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, what would you guys reccomend I get next? I was thinking about The Wall.
|
Hmm, it seems like we've been through this before. Anyways, The Wall is a good buy, and if you like that then you should get Animals or The Final Cut. If you like Dark Side then WYWH would be a good choice, since to me they are similar in sound and concept. Meddle would also be a good choice. Then, if you like PATGoD then you'll probably like A Saucerful of Secrets.
|
Meddle, Wish You Were Here, and Animals would be my next choices.
|
Obscured By Clouds in addition to Lunch's.
|
The Wall is probably your safest bet. It's just a really good album.
If you decide you really like Pink Floyd, Animals would be good. The reason you really need to like them is because each song is around 15 minutes long. Well, two short songs and three marathons. Obscured by Clouds is a good choice, but not if you want the basic Pink Floyd "sound". It's really kind of a pop-rock album, for the most part. |
I'd get Animals next. I think Animals is probably more accessible than The Wall, but both are works of art really.
|
Get The Wall, Pulse and Meddle. :)
|
Don't even bother with a CD and get Live at Pompeii instead.
|
Meddle
|
Id say Meddle too.
And hey Riva you got that awesome guy in your avatar again. What's he from anyway? |
Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. And he's back by popular demand. :)
Meddle
How can you think that Animals is boring yet you recommend Meddle? I always thought that Meddle was a boring album, it has it's mements like "One of These Days" and "Fearless" but "Echoes" is a complete snoozefest. Animals was difficult to get into at first because of the song lengths but at least those tracks feature epic climaxes unlike "Echoes" which just seems to meander along. |

Well, the epic climax with Echoes comes after the whales finish having sex, so it does take some getting used to. But I loved Animals from first listen, whereas Meddle took some time, except for Fearless which is just brilliant.
|
my first Pink Floyd album was The Wall and The Dark Side of The Moon and i found that those were good places to start because one, they are the most famous album but to they have a lot of different types of songs. After those albums i started to get like Meddle and Animals... but that's just me

These are the same two albums that I started off with. I think it's that it is great to start off because it gives you the sense of Pink Floyd's full range of sound that they do. |
Dogs drag on, but Animals is my favorite PF album.

And you don't like Echoes? That's what pretty much everybody says is their favorite song in this thread. The lyrics are amazing, if you just listen patiently it's a great song. Animals just felt like pointless ambience most of the time. And no climax in Echoes? What about that that awesome Phantom of the Opera riff? You don't call that a climax? |
To me, what your saying about Echoes could be easily said for Dogs, vice versa. Personally I think that Echoes and Dogs are two of Pink Floyd's greatest songs.
|
I love the part in Echoes after the "whale sex" or whatever, when David's playing that choppy riff on the guitar, and the vocals start again. Awesome.
Alright guys, I got some vinyls today, and I think I made a few good finds. The Wall for 10 bucks A Momentary Lapse of Reason for 5 bucks David Gilmour - About Face...I've never heard it before, but it was only 4 bucks, so I thought "why not?" Roger Waters - Radio KAOS for 5 bucks, which I have also never heard until now, and I really like it I also got Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery. I have pretty much bought the record shop out of Floyd albums. They had More, but it was an import and 25 bucks, so eh, maybe another time. I was gonna grab Atom Heart Mother but it had a pretty nasty scratch on it. |
I found Animals on vinyl once. It was pretty cool.
