Revolution 1 is meh for me. Revolution is far superior; has a better sound, better pulse, better feel, better tempo, better power.
Revolution 9 is pretty cool. At the end isn't there a bit where a chic talks about being naked? |
The way I always saw it was Revolution 1 is more like the protest songs of the 60's generation, but Revolution seems to be more modern and more of a protest song of today, but written years ago.

The Beatles are way cool
|
I love Revolution 9. It scares me sometimes, though.

The story behind why there are two sorts of Revolutions
Around the time of the recording of the White Album they were looking for singles to put out, which were not going to appear on the album. Hey Jude was decided to be the A-side, of course. Lennon push what will become to be known as Revolution 1, but the other Beatles said that it was too slow to be the B-side of Hey Jude, so Lennon decided to fasten the tempo and make it more heavy, so he came up with Revolution. Since the singles came out first, Lennon decided then to name the one that would appear on the White Album Revolution 1 to avoid confusions and so that people wouldn't think that they were using one of the singles on the album. And when they were shooting the promo for Revolution they sang the 'shoo beedo wap' live, which they used on the Revolution 1, to make it more interesting. I think it's sounds better like that. That's how the song and promo came to be. |
I didn't know that.
I mean, I figured that there had to have been a conflict of interests to record two different versions of one song. |
Sort of. The only reason Lennon did it was because he felt that the message he was trying to give out in his song had to go out to the world. If not, he wouldn't have changed the song.
So, the original one is the slow one. But I preffer Revolution. |

Yea I just recently checked out Revolution 1 and the first time I heard it I was kind of disapointed Revolution is definetly better...but Revolution 1 has grown on me and it's a very good song.

Has anyone else read the Beatles Anthology book...it's an amazing story! There's parts that really make you laugh out loud! There's parts that make you feel a little sad...it's really a great story. Im on Page 297 right now...I've still got a ways to go! But it's getting really interesting. What are some of your favourite parts of the book?
Im just reading about Hey Jude...it's quite funny. George Martin said...that they couldnt make a single that long! THe beatles asked...why not? And he all he could think of was that dj's wouldnt play it! They said..they will if it's us George Martin" And, of course, he was absolutley right." That part made me laugh |
I'm on about page 52, but i can't wait until i get where you are. I found the fact that the rest of them were scared of Ringo when they met pretty funny. Especially the part about him coming into the club late at night and requesting songs haha.

Yea the stories from the Cavern were pretty fun. You read the parts about them walking in on eachother...while doing...things. Ha that part was pretty good. I got this book a few months ago..and I'd read it every few days or weeks. So it's taken me a long time to get where I am. But last night I read like 50 pages until about 1 am. And I've done the same tonight. It's getting really interesting. John and Yoko just got busted  |
I need to read that book.
|
I haven't read the book. My friend has it, I just look around, and find something that I'm interested, like when they talk about a song, or something. I mostly read what George Harrison says. I have the DVD Anthology. It doesn't have as much information, but it makes up for the promo and other interesting video footage.

I don't have enough Beatles stuff that isn't just albums.
I just learned today my neighbor has every single Beatles album on vinyl. I need to steal it all. |

Some of these were on albums correct?
1. Day Tripper 2. We Can Work It Out 3. Paperback Writer 5. Lady Madonna 7. Hey Jude 8. Revolution 9. Get Back 14. Let It Be |
Let It Be and Get Back are on Let It Be.
We Can Work It Out and Day Tripper are on Yesterday...and Today |
1. Day Tripper - not on an album
2. We Can Work It Out -not on an album 3. Paperback Writer - not on an album 5. Lady Madonna - not on an album 7. Hey Jude - not on an album 8. Revolution - the fast version (off past masters) is not on an album, but the slow version is on the white album 9. Get Back - on Let it Be 14. Let It Be - on let it be, but the single version is on past masters (without phil specter's production and with a different solo)
Let It Be and Get Back are on Let It Be. I know we are already off the subject but...
I read you guys talking bout Revolution 9 and decided to download it, im 75% through it and previewed it and thought "WTF!!! I WASTED ALL THIS TIME FOR THIS?!?!?" but now i have listened to it again and it's actually very clever. What's the story behind it? It's pretty sad, i only have Sgt. Peppers, The Blue Album (Best of 1967-1970), and 1, and a beatles book. |
Revolution 9 was an experiment, the beatles were playing around with sound loops and Paul McCartney had about 20 sound loops of things like Seagulls and violin scales etc.. then they compiled it into a song. thats about all there is to it.
|
Have you heard of Past Masters? It has all their songs that weren't on albums. (there's two past masters cds)
Yeah, I know about them. I have pretty much every song the Beatles ever did, I just want to have it all on vinyl. |
hmmm I have a thought in my mind and have for quite some time....if the Beatles were around now instead of in the 60s, do you think they would have reached the fame they had or even come close to it? I would like to hear your thoughts.
|
If they made the same music, no. Because, if you'll notice, the majority of youth today don't like The Beatles. That wasn't true in the 60's.
|
i have one and i have the rest of there songs downloaded from the internet

yeah, except for the hippies who are living in the 60's  they are sooo cool. I mean that by the way. |
Should I get the John Lennon live cd, live in New York, or is it no good.
