BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-12-2005 06:40 PM
no.
Is that all you have to say? :p

Their best songs and all of their hits that got them big are mostly all covers. Fifth Dimension is extremly sub par with only very few songs worth lisining to, Sweetheart of the Rodeo gets weaker (IMO) with every listin and Notorious Byrd Brothers is just well....bad. ("Wasn't Born To Follow" is incredible tough)

I'm really suprised you didn't mention the Nity Grity Dirt Band in your FG a long time ago, they did alot for Country Rock.

Do you have any Tony Rice?

thickasabrick 11-12-2005 06:43 PM

I've got this one magazine from a few years ago...I was leafing through it yesterday (I found it as I was cleaning out my closet) and this there was an interview with this songwriter (forget the name, I hadn't heard of him) and he said that the Byrds were the greatest american band of all time. I was like....uh....okay....

I like the Byrds, but I could name dozens of bands that are better than them.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-12-2005 06:54 PM

It's better than Aerosmith.

jpj 11-12-2005 08:58 PM

I'm listening to Electric Ladyland right now, and I realized that even though I've had it for almost a year I never really gave it a good listen. I think it may be one of my favorite albums.

*revelation*

Early Aerosmith > The Byrds

Sweetheart of the Rodeo is great, yep yep.

Jacaranda 11-12-2005 09:00 PM

Uncle Salty > Most Byrds songs minus Hey Joe.

The Byrds sorta bore me...

robo2448 11-12-2005 09:06 PM

Electric Ladyland is amazing. My favorite Hendrix studio album.

Don't really see what The Byrds and Aerosmith have in common except their both pretty overrated. As for Aerosmith, Toys in the Attic is good but I haven't heard any of their other stuff and don't really have any desire to.

I enjoy the Byrds a lot. Fun to listen to. Not one of my favorite bands but a very good band nonetheless. 5th Dimension is a good album.

np- Pink Floyd- Keep Talking (awesome solo)

magicbus 11-12-2005 09:20 PM

Ok, so I did a recording of "Something", just the guitar parts. I played two rhythm tracks (one through a leslie speaker and one as an acoustic, using my pedal to make them sound like this), a track for the lead guitar, and a fourth track for some high chords strums that start around 1:17.

It's mixed kinda bad in some spots (buzzing), and in parts the timing can be a little off, so bear with me on those points.

Here it is:

I used to hate Electric Ladyland. I still prefer Axis, but EL is definitely catching up.

I'm starting to really get into Bowie more. I'm listening to Diamond Dogs right now, and really digging it.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-12-2005 09:21 PM

Aerosmith are horrible and should never be used in the same sentence as the Byrds!

Electric Ladyland is incredible.

Does anyone feel like uploading Bringing It All Back Home for me? I'm finally at a fast computer.

magicbus 11-12-2005 09:22 PM

I haven't listened to Electric Ladyland as much as I should've, but I will more. I really like "Voodoo Chile".

As for Diamond Dogs, I've never listened to that. I need to find another Bowie album on par with Ziggy Stardust.

DeusExMachina 11-12-2005 09:23 PM

I'll upload it.

I'm listening to the Something right now. I really like it. I'm at the solo. But I think you should emphasize the bass a bit more.

zabbit82 11-12-2005 09:27 PM

that is such a great Beatles song. now is where i get up and listen to my Abbey Road cd that hasnt been played in a while..

Broken Arrow 11-12-2005 09:30 PM

I love EL.

I havent heard much Byrds.

I like magicbus's cover.

jpj 11-12-2005 09:31 PM
As for Diamond Dogs, I've never listened to that. I need to find another Bowie album on par with Ziggy Stardust.
Diamond Dogs would be that album.
Aerosmith are horrible and should never be used in the same sentence as the Byrds!
Well, that's just silly. Aerosmith put out some top notch hard/blues rock albums before they started pumping out pop bullshit and whoring themselves on MTV. The Byrds seem to be consistently sub-par, minus Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I don't see how they are so vastly superior to Aerosmith, nor why Aerosmith is constantly being shat on like they're the scum of rock music.

Diamond Dogs is my favorite Bowie, I love 1984 and Big Brother.

Broken Arrow 11-12-2005 09:34 PM

I have Toys in the Attic on viynl and must say there are some good tunes on it. My dad also has that new blues CD they released a while back. Haven't listened to it except for one song which was decent.

DeusExMachina 11-12-2005 09:36 PM

I haven't heard much Aerosmith, but I have to say I wasn't a huge fan of what I heard.

jpj 11-12-2005 09:38 PM

Honkin' on Bobo is what the blues album is called, it's pretty decent.

zabbit82 11-12-2005 09:40 PM

i have Aerosmith's self/titled debut, Honkin on Bobo, and Toys in the Attic. i listen to S/T and Toys In The Attic alot, its really great stuff, i think

I used to feel the same way about the album, but I also recently discovered it.

JonG 11-12-2005 09:41 PM

It's not bad. I can't stand Aerosmith though :)

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-12-2005 09:41 PM

Thanks Dues. :)
Diamond Dogs would be that album.

I was actualy kidding. (kinda) :p

I have Toys in the Attic and Rocks both very sub par efforts and apparently the best they have to offer. They resemble AC/DC in their sound and in the way most of their songs sound the same. "Dream On" is a great song though......

Woodstock 11-12-2005 09:43 PM

I'm not a big fan of Aerosmith either. To me, they lost all their credibility when they did the Armageddon soundtrack.

NP: Hungry Freaks, Daddy

jpj 11-12-2005 09:44 PM
I was actualy kidding. (kinda)
Whatever!

I don't think they sound anything like AC/DC as they occassionaly make use of more than 3 chords in their songs.

JonG 11-12-2005 09:45 PM

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry hog the whole band. I can't say I've ever seen the bassist or the drummer.

zabbit82 11-12-2005 09:46 PM

i'm only a fan of thier early stuff and Honkin On Bobo.

one of the next cd's i want to get is Rocks. my dad has that on vynal and upon listening to it a few days ago, its an album i need. i like it.

jpj 11-12-2005 09:47 PM

Rock is great, they're best I think.

BludgeonySteve 11-12-2005 09:47 PM

I don't think they sound like AC/DC. I'm a bit of an arena rock whore and so I know these things, having several albums from each.

robo2448 11-12-2005 09:48 PM

I don't think they really sound like AC/DC at all.

Toys in the Attic is a good album. I don't listen to it much, but it's good hard blues-rock. Rocks is supposedly very similar to it, but I listened to it on xsao once and didn't like it.

zabbit82 11-12-2005 09:48 PM

its growing on me for sure, but i like Toys In The Attic better. Uncle Salty and No More No More are great songs.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. I really dig Coltrane.

Broken Arrow 11-12-2005 10:01 PM

I want teh link aswell.

My favourite Jazz is Charles Mingus.
