I just got back from watching this really crazy Ski Movie, and since its about ski season (In America at least) I figured I'd ask if any one ski's or snowboards, I do both, and not to blow my own horn but I'm great at both!
I ski a bit, although I'm pretty aweful. If I ever took the time to get good, I may enjoy it more.

Happy 60th Birthday to Neil Young!!

Yep, 60 years.
Happy 60th Birthday to Neil Young!!

Happy Birthday to Neil. Didn't know it was his birthday, but I've been listening to Live Rust this morning just because it's a good album.

np- Cortez the Killer

Edit- Neil's pretty young for someone who's been making music for so long.

thickasabrick 11-12-2005 11:29 AM

I used to snowboard...but living in Saskatchewan means driving for at least a few hours before you can find any sort of sizable bump in the ground to snowboard down.

I have Moondance, and I think one other album of his....I'm actually not a huge fan of both. I like the songs, but they are nothing amazing.

Happy birthday Neil!

Glitterati 11-12-2005 12:12 PM

Happy birthday Neil! :)

I like Prince, and U2.

I voted for Freddie just cause I'm not going to try and support people, I'm just voting who I like the most regardless of their number of votes. Plus I could careless who wins, I'd like to see Mick Jagger do fairly well though.
I used to snowboard. I got lessons the winter I was in seventh grade, butI haven't gone since then, and I'm in grade eleven now :( But me and some friends are planning to go this winter.

Never skiied though.
I've really been wanting to get into Van Morrison. Does anyone have any of his albums?
Moondance all the way.
When I went Skiing I slipped downn a very large hill.

Np> T-Rex - Children of the revolution.
I like T. Rex, but I've only heard "Bang A Gong." I'll have to pick up a full release by them sometime.

np: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

Broken Arrow 11-12-2005 12:14 PM

I'm going on a Neil young marathon today for sure.
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

This is the thread for general classic rock discussion.
Yes, i have noticed this at my school too, classic is coming behind that sucky rap. More people are realizing that metal is better than rap too. Yeah don't count out the Eagles, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, you know
Yes, i have noticed this at my school too, classic is coming behind that sucky rap. More people are realizing that metal is better than rap too.
I'd rather listen to rap than most metal.

robo2448 11-12-2005 12:37 PM

I have a cool new Neil avatar for his birthday. I'm going to put After the Goldrush on now.

Jacaranda 11-12-2005 12:40 PM

Metal > Rap, there is just to much trashy rap. I don't even like Kanye West any more, his CD was a huge let down.

Happy birthday Neil! (just to make it CD related :P)

Albums I've listened to today -
C&C - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness... Yay for copy and paste.
I've been listening to Harvest Moon so much my entire life. I was born on a Harvest Moon, so my mom plays the song all the time. I love it so much.
Harvest Moon is a great song.

I was lookin through my parent's cds the other day and I came across The Moody Blues "Days of Future Passed." It's a wonderful cd. One of the few I have with an orchestra on it. Anyone else like this album?

The Moody Blues are great. I've heard songs off of the album (The Day begins and Nights In White Satin), but never the whoel thing, which I really should do.

TheDMV 11-12-2005 02:04 PM

Neil Young seems very patriotic for a Canadain, especially his most recent album. You'd think he was American.

Happy Birthday Neil :D

robo2448 11-12-2005 02:24 PM

Woah that's wierd. Identical posts by TheDMV separated by a double post by Med in the middle. Never seen anything like that before.

On the Beach is so awesome. I think my favorite song from that is Vampire Blues.

Woodstock 11-12-2005 03:00 PM

I taped Paul McCartney in St. Petersburg yesterday. I should watch it tonight.

And so far it looks like Moondance will take the win for the best Van Morrison album. I'll check it out.

On The Beach is so good. It's probably the best consistently good album I've bought in a while. Every song is great. My favorite is probably "On The Beach".

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make it through the first round. Not a lot of Aerosmith love on mx, I don't really care though.

I saw part of the Paul McCartney thing last night, but I didn't feel like watching it.

As far as Van Morrison goes, Tupelo Honey > Moondance, but the song Moondance > everything else he's ever done.

Since it's Neil Young's birthday it's only right to listen to his best album.

NP: Neil Young-Cinnamon Girl

Woodstock 11-12-2005 03:07 PM

I realized it wasn't the Paul McCartney in Red Square show that I thought it was, (Moscow, duh!), but I'm still glad to have it.

NP: George Harrison - Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp

Oh, yeah. And for all you Neil heads like myself, I made him a birthday thread:

Sometimes I think there are no words, but these to tell whats true: Goddam Gates of Eden is an amazing song.

magicbus 11-12-2005 04:26 PM

I still haven't heard his new one. How is it?

Ephemeral 11-12-2005 04:31 PM
I still haven't heard his new one. How is it?
Paul McCartney's?

First listen though, wasn't really anything special. It was alright, but not as good as I thought it would be.

The next day, I just started thinking about it, stuck it back in and listened again, it was absolute magic to my ears. In my opinion better than any of his other records. It turned out, when I had finished it, it was way better than what I thought it would be. Neat thing is, he did all of the instruments on it exept for a few wood winds.

It's up there now with my favorite albums of all time.

I suppose I should review it on Sputnik. Another time.

EDIT: Er, wait. Are you talking about Neil Young's new one?

Doctor Night 11-12-2005 04:41 PM
I still haven't heard his new one. How is it?
I heard it was really poor.

robo2448 11-12-2005 04:46 PM

I think McCartney's is supposed to be pretty good, better than his recent output but not great. Neil's is great.

Neil marathons own. I can't decide if I like On the Beach or After the Goldrush more. My only complaint is that they're a little too short.

After the Goldrush does have some filler, but it's the first Neil album I bought and got me into Neil. On the Beach is just awesome.

Ephemeral 11-12-2005 04:49 PM

Neil Young's music is really close to my heart, becuase back in the day when I was in like preschool, I remember Harvest Moon always coming on the radio. The only moments I remember from way back then are the ones where I was listening to that song and eating fruit snacks. God I love that song.

Krabsworth 11-12-2005 04:54 PM

I don't like Neil Young at all.

Today I got:

Nity Grity Dirt Band - The Circle Will Remain Unbroken
Miles Davis - Miles Smiles
Allman Brothers - Live at Fillmore East

The Byrds are overrated......

Badmoon 11-12-2005 06:26 PM

no.

magicbus 11-12-2005 06:26 PM

I'm not a big fan of the Byrds, although some of their songs are pretty catchy.

I'm listening to The Madcap Laughs right now (thanks to whomever uploaded it). I'm only on the first song, which I've seen played by Gilmour on his dvd, so I haven't gotten a real first impression yet. I'll listen to the rest and see how it goes.
