For me, One is simply superior. The other two a great but One just takes the best elements from the first two (opening solo, thumping chorus) and takes it even further. Not to mention the song progresses from ballad to kicking your arse with too much ease. Along with Master Of Puppets, I think it's the quintessential Metallica track, in that it contains everything that makes them great.

We should rate Call Of Ktulu, Orion, and To Live Is To Die. I'd have to say: To Live Is To Die>Call Of Ktulu>Orion. TLITD is just so damn emotional sounding it has awesome riffs and solos throughout, I want this song played at my funeral. Ktulu is just so damn creepy sounding and has a great epic ending. Orion is meh (despite popular opinion), I just never was impressed.
|
Ah, I'd have to say...
Orion > TLITD > Ktulu Orion is musically genius, but so its TLITD and Ktulu.. I love all the riffs to Orion, all of the song is just.. awesome. I like TLITD, especially the slower part, I think its the interlude, not for sure. Ktulu's solo is insane. |
I think Orion is the best out of those, it think is one of the only songs that sounded a bit progressive, in second place i say Ktulu because the intro and the basslines are great and in last TLITD.
|
It goes TLITD > Orion = Call of Ktulu
I really just can't decide which of the last two I like better. |
i'd say ktulu, i love the solo
|
I didn't like Orion, until about a week ago. Now I'm in love with the song.
I'd say to live is to die, then orion, then call of ktulu. They're all great though. |
Do any of you ever wish that Metallica just stopped after ..AJFA? Or the Black album? That way they would have never made these so-called "imperfect" albums?
I dont, I just want your opinions. Would it be best if they had stopped after the tour of a certain album? That way St. Anger or Load/ReLoad were never produced? The self-titled album never produced? RTL never produced? |

I'd rather hear more music. It's simply better.
Orion > TLITD > Ktulu
123 I never saw what was so great about Ktulu. |
ktulu>TLITD>Orion
I gotta say Orion is better for the firs 2 minutse or so, but then it doesn't really ge any better. |
oh and also.
FTB > One > Sanitarium |

Orion > The Call of The Ktulu > To Live is To Die
Am I the only person that dislikes One? |
i think it would be better if they hadnt done and justice for all and ride the lightning and master of puppets, there are very few songs i like off those 3 albums and st anger was a disappointing listen for me, i was expecting better production for it and also they didnt seem to know the style they were trying to play very well, but the songs are decent and they should sound awesome live, hopefully they get back to their form for the next album, because when they know what their style is they do fairly good songs.
im not a big metallica fan, i prefer anthrax, venom or pantera for thrash music |
Orion > The Call of The Ktulu > To Live is To Die
Am I the only person that dislikes One?
I don't like it much either. It's better than Sanitarium though. |

The Call Of The Ktulu > Orion > To Live Is To Die, IMO. /fourth Australian poster in a row \o/ |
One is probably my least favorite. I adore Sanitarium but I think it's almost ruined by a really bad final solo, they could have done so much more with that. FTB is better than both of them though.
|
I don't like it much either. It's better than Sanitarium though.
I like Sanitarium, I don't really like One at all... P.S. Aussies are gonna take over MX :D ...And Kyle's 100% correct, I couldn't have said it better myself. |
i think it would be better if they hadnt done and justice for all and ride the lightning and master of puppets, there are very few songs i like off those 3 albums.
It's your opinion but I can bet no one here agrees with this. |
It's your opinion but I can bet no one here agrees with this.
Well, I agree with it in regards to KEA and RTL, but not MOP |
i think you are all mad singleing out a few songs like that. there's not one 'tallica song i dont like, but i have to say that one/call of ktulu/justice/creepin deth/FTB/HofS/...(see what i mean? i cant NOT go on and on forever...) but yeah i will always love all of it. and allthough anger is a major step-down from from their previous works, i still enjoy it. but nevertheless i simply dont understand whoever says Anger is better than lightening. cor, that's just insane.
|
the first 3 albums are unquestionably the best albums tallica did. AJFA showed the repercussions of the death of cliff. then the black album was the start of the downfall. << opinion
|
In my opinion Black Album was the final victorious stand before, if you will, the "downfall". however, one who loves tallica purely for the thrash would not think so.
but i don't think there was a downfall, as the (re)load era was really cool, i think. now i have no idea what "jurassic metal" is, but it is said that Kirk himself announced it to be the orientation of the upcoming album. i'm hoping it is thrash, but in reallistic optimism i'm hoping it will be like the Black Album.:thumb: oh and if it is to be said that there was no downfall, St. Anger is to be ignored. (allthough i enjoy it) |
jurassic metal? maybe its like the film and they cloned themselves from 20years ago and are getting those guys to write the album...
|
lol nice idea. ideally the new album would be like Black, though. i would love that. Its more likely now that Rob will have an influence. of course thrash would be brilliant, but i don't think it's particularly realistic.

*crosses fingers* Let there be THRASH!! |
Orion > The Call of The Ktulu > To Live is To Die
Am I the only person that dislikes One?
Yes, I'm afraid so. And, IMO, Orion > TLITD > COTK
the first 3 albums are unquestionably the best albums tallica did. AJFA showed the repercussions of the death of cliff. then the black album was the start of the downfall. << opinion
Clearly. I really like AJFA and the Black Album. I'd consider Load the "downfall," not the Black Album being the start of it. Load also wasn't really all that bad, and IMO, ReLoad and Garage are amazing albums.
It's your opinion but I can bet no one here agrees with this.
I don't :thumb: RTL and MOP are their best albums.
FTB > One > Sanitarium
I'd flip Sanitarium and One. NP: Nothing Else Matters from S&M
*crosses fingers* Let there be THRASH!!
Guitar or vocals? Vocals= No chance, Guitar= big chance. Some of the St. Anger guitarwork was extremely thrashy, similar to KEA. (minus solos). James' voice will never be back to the thrashy calibur it was. |
jurassic metal? sounds pretty cool. i agree with joe, theres no way james can go thrash metal vocals again, but it would be interesting to see how he integrates his voice with thrashy instrumentation, if they go thrashy again. i think the black album was ok but it aint a patch on RTL and MOP. KEA was there first album, it was untamed, RTL an MOP arent exactly tamed but i like them the best.
