Most tech death just sucks in my opinion. There're so many of these bands that they almost all sound the same. I'll stick with my old school death and proto death metal bands.

Nah, there's enough variation in old school death metal that there are plenty of bands that sound distinctly different and have their own style. Necrophagist and the lot, not so much so.
