Crazy good or crazy bad? |
im tryin to get a vid of money bein played with the wizard of oz and i cant use youtube. can anybody help me out?
|
Put the CD in and play the movie?
There are a number of sites on the net that tell you how to sync it up. |
On the MGM lions second roar I think.
|
I hate to ask this, but why sync it up with the wizard of oz?
|
I hate to ask this, but why sync it up with the wizard of oz?
'cos there's this story that gets passed around everywhere that Darkside syncs up perfectly with the Wizard of Oz. If it does it's entirely coincidental, and I'm pretty sure alot of albums could do that with alot of films, Pink Floyd fans are just weird enough to care and discover it. David Gilmour was interviewed in a show here and was asked about it, he basically wrote it off, he said something like "probably just some student high on too much spliff" |
It sucks anyway, a lot of people see something that really isn't there. Are there some cool coincidences? Sure, a few, but overall it's a waste of time unless you really want it to be true badly enough that you'll make it out to be something it's not.
And these things just happen. Dredg fans claim El Cielo syncs up with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mudvayne's L.D.50 syncs up with 2001: A Space Odyssey, the list goes on. It's just foolishness. |
There are a few parts in the sync that are pretty cool, and the music gives a pretty cool feel to the movie, but ya, it's most likely a coincidence. Still kind of fun though, if you've got nothing better to do.
And the Floyd song "Echoes" supposedly matches up with the last part of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I haven't tried that one. |
ive also heard that dark side syncs up with alice in wonderland. now that would take some serious talent, to record an album to sync up with two movies simultaneously
|
yeah that would be awesome
|
I think if you play almost any album with almost any given film/TV show there will be enough coincidences for it to seem like its in sync. Especially if you're stoned enough :P Although its not really in sync, watching the simpsons with rap music can be really funny.
Anyway to bring this post back to a Floyd-related theme, I just finished reading Inside Out by Nick Mason, I thought it was a great read with some interesting facts in it, what do you guys think of this book? Needless to say its made me want to listen to lots of Pink Floyd, unfortunately I don't have any money to expand on my collection right now :( currently I have Dark Side, WYWH, Animals and The Wall, I'm thinking Meddle then Piper next. |
I'm thinking Meddle then Piper next.
Good choices, ecspecially Pipers, but Meddle holds it's own to. Pink Floyd made some of their best music in the early days IMO. Try Saucerful of Secrets to, it's pretty damn good. :) |
Ummagumma is also good, some of the studio stuff you may not like but the Live stuff is great.
|
Yeah, Ummagumma isn't bad. I'm not to fond of the studio stuff, but the live stuff is pretty damn good, as you said. Their only early album at I don't really care for is Atom Heart Mother. I've just never warmed up to that album, like some of their others.
|
Meddle isn't really doing it for me anymore. I still love Echoes and Fearless, but the feel of the album overall is just kind of "eh".
|
Anyone have Wet Dream by Richard Wright? It's tough to find, but worth it if you can. Good album. My favorite solo effort by a Floyd member by far. All the rest I've heard suck though, so it doesn't have too much to beat.
|
Ya I've got it on my computer, but I haven't really listened to it too much. I like Rick Wright, so I'd probably like the album if I gave it a listen.
Have you listened to any of Gilmour's solo stuff? I like his a lot more than Roger's stuff. |
I haven't listened to any of their solo efforts really. Just songs here and there.
Nobody seems to mention how awesome Obscured by Clouds is. |
the only Gilmour solo stuff I've got in On An Island, it's pretty good.
|
I haven't listened to any of their solo efforts really. Just songs here and there.
Nobody seems to mention how awesome Obscured by Clouds is.
OBC is a really good album. I like how completely different it is from any of Floyd's other stuff. It's like a pop-rock album. |
That's better. I was wondering where the love was. Definitely a great album though. I love Childhood's End and Stay.
|
Stay was my favorite Floyd song for a while.
I should give OBC a listen. It's been a long time since I listened to the whole thing. |
Everybody loves OBC, I remember it was all we talked about for a while.
|
Yep. Hasn't been mentioned much lately, though.
So I listened to Piper today for the first time in months. That album is really fun to listen to. |
Currently reading Saucerful of Secrets The Pink Floyd Odyssey. - Nicholas Schaffner.
Good stuff. So far very very based around the early 60's, Floyd establishing themselves, and Syd. I'm enjoying it. |
I've got OBC but I've never paid it much attention.
|
Listen to it, it's good
|
yeah I should
I'm lazy |
See Emily Play is a great song.
|
yeah I should
I'm lazy
Too lazy to listen to Floyd? You should be ashamed. |
See Emily Play is a great song.
this |
Ya I really like most of those early Floyd singles.
|
Paintbox and Julia Dream are awesome as well. Those are early singles as well, no?
|
Yessuh they is.
Paintbox is a really cool song. |
yeah i really like rick wrights contributions to pink floyd. hes written some of their coolest songs like remember a day summer of '68 paintbox and he arranged any colour you like. but waters still fired him.
|
I wish he sang more too. One of my favorite specific "parts" of any Floyd song is his chorus in the song "Time". It's just really cool. And like I said before, "Stay" was my favorite Floyd song for a long time.
Anyone know when his new solo album is coming out? This year sometime, right? |
There was also a bit of a division in the band, though. Rick and Gilmour vs Waters with Mason siding with one side or the other. Hence The Division Bell, which I am thinking is more and more of an entire album about Waters, by Wright and Gilmour.
See Emily Play is a great song.
It's the greatest thing they ever recorded. |
It's the greatest thing they ever recorded.
yeah, it's really good, but the best? |
Definitely not.
