dollars that is

JoeDaddio 08-18-2004 12:20 AM

Your amp should actually be suplying more power than your speakers are rated for. You just never run it at full. But in order to get a more clean, crisp, pure, tone, you should have headroom so that you never top out.

Ok im off to bed I have absolutely horrible acid reflux. nite mx

JoeDaddio 08-18-2004 12:30 AM

It's called heart burn. All these **** pharmecutical companies give things like 'heart burn' this horrible sounding name like 'ACID REFLUX DISEASE' meanwhile we still call AIDS, AIDS, rather than 'turning your insides to liquid and killing you over the years with a slow painful death' disease.

Foxfire 08-18-2004 02:09 AM

I'm sort of lucky; sometime in the next 2-3 weeks I'm hopefully getting a Roland DB-500. (about 400 USD)

Then, (I'm 13 and going into 8th grade this year) I'm graduating and getting confirmed in the Catholic church (it looks as though it'll pay off :p), so I'll be getting more money than usual.

I get 60 USD a week (I babysit a lot), plus the usual birthday and Christmas.

By this time next year I hope to have a Conklin GT-7 and either an Ibanez SR-506 OR a fretless Conklin GT-7, as well as a ton of gear (including, but not limited to: a compressor, 31 band EQ, multiple effects, leather strap, and more).

PaulR 08-18-2004 02:15 AM

I really need a job.
Its been a difficult time to get one because I only just turned 16 in like 3 weeks ago.
I was on holiday and now theres only 2 weeks before I go back to school.
I should probably try and get a weekend job but if not then I might do the Christmas post which pays about £5 an hour for 2 weeks.
I get about £20 a month i guess.
I never save for anything ever but I think is time to upgrade to a better bass.
Any ideas for around £300?

Foxfire 08-18-2004 02:22 AM

*doesn't know his exchange rates*

Tell me the exchange rate and I'll try to help you. :)

PaulR 08-18-2004 02:26 AM

About 550 USD maybe?

Foxfire 08-18-2004 02:30 AM

550 USD; oh yeah, it's about 1.50 USD / Pound, yes? Or a bit more I think...whatever.

Anyhoo...How many strings/what genre of music do you play/favorite technique/etcetc.

:p

PaulR 08-18-2004 02:35 AM

I currently play 4 strings but I was thinking about upgrading to 5 because I do a lot of slap stuff. I don't really stick to any particular genre of music.
I guess this isn't really helping.
I'm picky.

Foxfire 08-18-2004 02:39 AM

Well for sure, go out and try basses first.

550 USD - My and BFAGs love, the Ibanez SR500 series; the SR505 is a beauty to play. The SRX-705 (Ibanez again) is supposed to be crazy good as well. The Curbow 5 is supposed to be great (I own a Curbow 4 and some people here own a 5 or 6). For the most part, people tend to say to stay away from Fender 5ers.

I've heard, too, that if you're considering going from 4 to 5, you may as well go 6, so that you don't regret it later.

Either way, try them out at a store first.

acexxxoasis 08-18-2004 02:42 AM

I was ok with 6 for a while
but it just got slow and daunting now i went down to 4 its strange... I just feel at home on teh 4

PaulR 08-18-2004 02:42 AM

Thanks for the advice.
My friend is just starting off and he wants to know a good starter bass for around £300. Theres a Fender P Standard Bass for £329 that he may be interested in... any ideas?

Foxfire 08-18-2004 02:44 AM

Good starter bass?

Try to go used. Used owns. MusicMan Stingrays sell for like 1200 USD new but you can get one used for 800-900 USD.

Search eBay and any place that sells used instruments.

I'm a fan of Fender Ps, myself, but if I got one, it'd be the American Deluxe (P + MM pickups).

PaulR 08-18-2004 02:45 AM

Ok. Again thanks for the advice.

Foxfire 08-18-2004 02:48 AM

Either way, tell him to try stuff out first!

My opinions are exactly that: opinions.

For example, I like Warwick Thumbs. Some people hate them. Some people say the MusicMan Stingray is the best bass ever...I disagree and would rather have a Conklin GT-7.

You (and him) should try stuff out, as it's the only way to know what's best.
If you like the feel and the sound, who cares what anyone else thinks? :)

PaulR 08-18-2004 02:51 AM
