you wouldn't say that if you saw someone writing about how suicide silence opened them up to old school black metal.
Don't be stupid, please.

Liam: Yes, I think you would like them.

2muchket! 04-25-2010 06:55 PM
Let me tell you then, melodic death metal is a misnomer, much closer to nwobhm then death metal, the main difference (Between melodeath and nwobhm) is the harsh vocals.
not all melodic death metal is gothenburg

Byrain 04-25-2010 09:36 PM
Yes and no, this is very dependent on specific bands of course.

Stuff like In Flames (or the Gothenburg scene in general) I could see that comparison, however their drumming on the old material, as well as some of the riffs are what would set them in the MDM field as opposed to heavy metal (vocals of course too).

Then we have bands like Intestine Baalism, Visceral Evisceration, and Loudblast. Death metal bands with tons of melodic leads. Do you see where I'm going with this?
Well, of course melodeath isn't plain heavy metal, there are differences other then the vocals. Despite that it still doesn't share much with death metal, especially the old school stuff. Much more so with heavy metal.

As for your three examples I only know Visceral Evisceration whose leads seem quite influenced by Paradise Lost's 'Gothic' who in turn where influenced by Metallica. Another band with such influence in leads would be Mythological Cold Towers from Brazil, specifically on their debut album. The leads themselves seem more influenced by the same thing that influenced melodeath itself, old heavy metal (whatever you wanna call it). They're not necessarily connected outside of that. Though I could see how they tread a similar path at times.

I agree.

rasputin 04-26-2010 03:44 AM

metal genres are really easy tbh and it's saddening to see people trying to make them seem more complex than they really are and then totally failing at that as well

witchxrapist 04-26-2010 04:32 AM

Truth.

Mythological Cold Towers and Paradise Lost both ****ing suck, I'm starting to see a trend here.

JizzInMyPants 04-26-2010 04:41 AM

ya that dude is an idiot for comparing paradise lost to a melodic thrash metal band

witchxrapist 04-26-2010 04:53 AM

That dude's an idiot for denying that Visceral Evisceration is MDM just because they don't sound like a Gothenburg band.

Txus 04-26-2010 07:20 AM

Exactly. And also for nitpicking what I said. ****ing cunt.

Been listening to a bunch of Autopsy today, feels so satan.

RetiredAt21 04-26-2010 11:50 AM

Forgot how much Infester rules.

Txus 04-26-2010 01:33 PM

Band is so good and filthy.

landonius 04-26-2010 01:39 PM

****in Gallery of Suicide, yah.

god, I've waited a long time to actually get some Cannibal Corpse. Everything before Vile is ****ing terrible in my opinion. I just cant get into it. Chris Barnes is the most homosexual thing known to man.

xMalcolmXx 04-26-2010 01:49 PM

Yeah, the vocals are gross.

landonius 04-26-2010 01:53 PM

I feel like I could be in love with Aborted. From the whole brutal death at the beginning of their career, and the more melodic **** on Strychinine.213. I hate listening to the same album every time a band releases something.

RetiredAt21 04-26-2010 01:54 PM

Nobody cares, guy.

xMalcolmXx 04-26-2010 01:54 PM

Aborted's deathcore stuff disappoints me. Their older stuff is incredible though.

new album rules. i've also been listening to prelude to the tragedy a lot recently, and that has grown on me immensely.

Jondur 04-27-2010 07:36 AM
You're not serious, are you?

Let me tell you then, melodic death metal is a misnomer, much closer to nwobhm then death metal, the main difference (Between melodeath and nwobhm) is the harsh vocals. And Doom/death is a doom metal sub-genre, not fusion or death, as the lines towards the traditional bands as Candlemass and Saint Vitus (Though, Scald from Russia if you know them are probably closer to Visceral Evisceration in sound then those two) are much clearer then they are to death metal. Or to melodeath, which is even less related.
What the piss are you blathering on about? You're saying Visceral Evisceration have musical links to Vitus? Are you ill?

Txus 04-27-2010 07:41 AM

Byrain is really dumb. Gonna listen to some Visceral today.

for sure, I couldn't stand their newer material for the longest time. Idk, now i can definitely pick out several great riffs per song... and the solos are still incredible.
