yeah you don't melt it there's just a big metal thing that goes nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng and stirs it up really fast

yeah that expedites the process nicely but the person who invented milkshakes prob just had slightly melted ice cream and but it in a cup and drank it w/ a straw (if straws were invented first)
