Someone send me to a site I can spend all my time on. I have nothing to waste my day anymore, no idea why but for some reason my internet world is shrinking. Used to use maddox until he just lost it and I had read through all of the archives. Then explosm comics got a bit boring, then stumbleupon came to the rescue until it just throws up the same bullpoop photo archives every other click.

So yeah - link me up to something to waste my time.
good because i'm bringing it.

funkyhoney 08-04-2009 10:59 PM

Hey Gaslight, do you drink cider per chance?

:amaze: 08-04-2009 11:01 PM

rum and cider yum.

i've never had the cider that's alcoholic itself, though.

funkyhoney 08-04-2009 11:05 PM

Oh I love cider and beer too for that matter. Only fairly boutique beer though, most Aussie beer is absolute bollocks. But one of the domestic beer companies starting making a cider and it's pretty damn good!

And non-alcoholic cider is just sparkling apple juice.

Never had cider and beer ... i've had orange juice and malt liquor, though.

and when i say apple cider, this is what i mean:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_cider

funkyhoney 08-04-2009 11:39 PM

Ah I see. We don't really have that here. We have apple juice, and carbonated apple juice and cider is basically exclusively alcoholic. There's some domestic and a few English/Irish ciders here.

Beer is good if you get something good. I can't drink crappy beer, it all tastes the same and the same is ****.

:amaze: 08-04-2009 11:55 PM

hahaha I constantly drink crappy beer. I'm a poor college kid, so that's what i can get. Though there are a few local brewers that have some good beers.

funkyhoney 08-05-2009 12:09 AM

I don't get the poor college kid thing, maybe it's different in the US but I live comfortably week to week. Although I have taken the rest of the year off for some "me" time.

:amaze: 08-05-2009 12:21 AM

Well during the semester I can only work so much with being a full-time student with a band and girlfriend/social life, and I have to pay bills, buy food/groceries/gas/etc before I can happily sip on the finest beers all the time. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally splurge on a few nice beers, but for the most part I can't really afford it in any quantity.

funkyhoney 08-05-2009 12:37 AM

Well maybe if you buy some cheap vodka to get drunk on you could afford boutique beer! Haha.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not like I drink them all the time, nor do I claim to be rich by any means. I also study full time have band and a social life, it's a lot more tiring than most people are willing to grant it.

gaslight 08-05-2009 12:59 AM

You know what really saves money is cutting out alcohol altogether.

funkyhoney 08-05-2009 01:10 AM
You know what really saves money is cutting out alcohol altogether.
This is true but I already save quite a lot so I feel I'm allowed to splurge.

pfft, weaklings :p

nah i don't care, i'll drink if it's free

:chug:

funkyhoney 08-05-2009 03:30 AM

The only thing better than a nice drink, is a free drink.

nisakss 08-05-2009 08:37 AM

I prefer smoking than drinking but alas I do both.

I haven't been drinking as much either. A 6-pack will last me a week or two, it seems.

It was a photo finish.

FunkMetalBass 08-05-2009 11:07 AM

42 minutes later. Haha.

I didn't refresh my screen, went and made a cup of tea, responded to work emails, and then responded to MX.

Joe fail.

I installed my DVD deck in my car, only to realize that, in bypassing the safety park brake switch, I screwed up the wiring. The DVD player works, but only when the headlights are off. **smacks forehead**

Lucky bastard.

However, I'm seeing Halestorm tonight. If you don't know who they are, check them out. The lead singer is fantastic on guitar, vocals, and the eyes. :thumb:

Epidemechanical 08-05-2009 04:53 PM

have fun spiff.

FunkMetalBass 08-06-2009 09:50 AM

Halestorm was AWESOME last night. Very tight live, Lzzy has AMAZING vocals, and they are very down-to-earth people. I tried to make a good impression with them after the show so that, if they ever come through again, my band could have a shot at opening for them. We'll see what happens.

The other bands that played (Kill Kapacity, Vrtra, and Red-Headed Stepchild) were all your typical heavy metal bands, except RHS sounds a bit more like early 90's, Anthrax-like metal.

Seeing shows like last night really inspire me to play out...

...and invest in good earplugs...

gaslight 08-06-2009 10:23 AM

Everyone should have good earplugs at the least, fitted musicians earplugs if possible.

Epidemechanical 08-06-2009 10:45 AM

Crapdragoon 08-06-2009 02:26 PM

have any of you doods used the black beautys? gimmicky or what

Spaceman Spiff 08-06-2009 03:34 PM

Tool show was great. Not the best set I've seen them play, but they still played incredibly.
Set was:
Jambi
Stinkfist
46 & 2
Schism
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Flood
Aenima
Lateralus
Vicarious

The only song on the set I hadn't seen them play was Flood, so that was just awesome. And some other guitarist came out and played 46 & 2 instead of Adam Jones..? Maybe he had to take a dump?
have any of you doods used the black beautys? gimmicky or what
When I bought my Stingray, the guy had put a new set on. They weren't bad, and actually had a really nice slap tone, but they weren't anything super impressive. They did last quite a bit longer than I expected them to, however, so that's a bonus.

I'm not sure if there's a pricing difference between those and a regular steel or nickel set, but they certainly weren't gimmicky, nor are they worth an inflated $5-10 price increase (if there is one).

Were their roadies/techies all running around in lab coats? I think it's awesome that the roadies are incorporated into the show a bit instead of just hiding in the background and only coming on stage when there's a problem. It keeps a tech on stage for potential mishaps and adds to the general fluidness of the show.

It wasn't Billy Howerdell, was it? I didn't know the guys subbed out players like that, but it very well could have been his roadie. Maybe Adam was sick or something and has a professional stand-in for shows like that. It's really a cool idea and I don't know why I never thought of it.

Spaceman Spiff 08-06-2009 04:18 PM

I think it was a roadie/guitar tech. He had on the long white coat. Definitely wasn't Billy Howerdell, Maynard said his name is Stephen. Justin and Adam were in their all white clothing.

Maynard talked a lot and made jokes throughout the show, so that was fun. He disappeared part way through Lateralus during a big drum break (they brought out a second drummer to play with Danny for the song), then he came back out in his underwear with a big plate of fries (he was talking a lot about eating fries throughout the night) and was eating them and walking around the stage feeding them to techs and band members.

Hell yes.

Had my moulds made on Tuesday. Weirdest ear related experience of my life.

They take this blue gunk, kinda looks like liquid Blu tack, and insert via this syringe type thing without the needle.

When it fills your ear it feels like someone just blew a big load in your ear.

Question: I ordered the 15db filter and the 25db filter. Do you think for band practice 25db filter and for live 15db?

Or vice versa?
