They were pretty cool live, but I never really listen to it.

kingsoby1 12-20-2008 10:48 AM

their set here in mn was definitely awesome... it felt like the bass was pulsating through the air.

ATM 12-20-2008 11:13 AM

Good blog here:

the production on gutter tactics is awesome (as always). dalek kind of brings it down every once in awhile tho

kingsoby1 12-20-2008 11:26 AM

this is pretty solid so far. ill prob review this.

ATM 12-20-2008 11:42 AM

You guys into El Prez?

The Daily Show EP is awesome.

kingsoby1 12-20-2008 01:15 PM

this better not be more atlanta ghettotech! ;-p

ATM 12-20-2008 01:17 PM

kingsoby1 12-20-2008 01:23 PM

ill check this out after dalek. man, the production on this is at least as good as abandoned language... i really wish he wasn't such a bare bones mc though :(

ILLIMINATOR 12-20-2008 01:44 PM

he seems to use a lot of similar flows and rhythms, which gets kind of tiring after awhile. the use of "choruses" can get annoying too. guess it depends on my mood

the production makes up for any flaws though. oktopus is amazing

kingsoby1 12-20-2008 02:35 PM

agreed.

content-wise, he's pretty solid, so at least he's got that going for him. i think i like the production here better than abandoned language tbh...

kingsoby1 12-27-2008 05:00 PM

i saw them open for russian circles at triple rock... sound quality was shiit for the most part, but it was still awesome.

thunderzstruck 12-27-2008 05:07 PM

**** i saw them open for some band but i dont remember what concert it was. now its killing me

EDIT: he opened for rjd2! ok i feel good now

kingsoby1 12-27-2008 05:36 PM

rjd2 is definitely tight, surprised dalek was opening though.

Txus 12-28-2008 02:04 PM

Gutter Tactics is becoming my favorite rap album of the year.

moron 12-28-2008 02:08 PM

Messianic Rebel 01-04-2009 04:57 PM

I have been a fan of good hip-hop/rap for a number of years now, and am constantly amazed re-surprised by new artists.

Currently obsessing over:

Sadistik
CunninLynguists
Amyas
Blue Scholars
WarsawpacK
the Blend
Blackalicious
Buck 65
K'naan
Aesop Rock

kingsoby1 01-05-2009 01:34 PM

dude, the blend? wtf, they're terrible and not even hiphop; it's like frat-party-jam-spoken word. ive heard stories of their vocalist being a tool as well.

otherwise, decent list... haven't heard of amyas, sadistik, blue scholars, or warsawpack - what can you compare them to?

Tyler 01-05-2009 01:39 PM

Warsawpack are hard to pin down. They're insanely politically charged. The rapping has an almost spoke-word vibe to it, but it's definitely rapping. He sounds kind of like a less insane B-Real. Musically, it's really laid back, mostly focusing on sax/flute, drums and bass. There's guitar in there but it's never as pronounced imo. Very jazzy and smooth, which is in direct contrast to the subject matter and tone.

kingsoby1 01-05-2009 02:52 PM

hmm, i dig B-Real... might check it out. doesn't sound like it's up my alley at all though... especially if it's less of a hiphop supporting group and more of a "jazzy/jam/funk" extravaganza.

Iai 01-05-2009 02:54 PM

That post there is basically how G Love & Special Sauce were described to me a few years back.

lol

kingsoby1 01-06-2009 04:01 PM

Just got reviewer access to B-Real's upcoming Feb 24th release, it's alright so far :-/

fatkidzonmopedz 01-10-2009 07:50 AM

serious question: what the fuck is up with plies's teeth??

hellohelicopter 01-10-2009 08:04 AM

Not really a massive fan of most rap (except Sway Dasafo who is immense) but I do enjoy dabbling in Grime, anyone else here like it?

fatkidzonmopedz 01-10-2009 09:42 AM

has there ever been a best rappers of all time poll? i think that'd be pretty cool to do. i could run it if anyone is interested in making it happen. i'm a big fan of the rap game so i could write descriptions of the rappers that make the list.

Seantmpc13 01-10-2009 11:38 AM

I'm not sure if there has been a poll on here. Sounds fun to me. My vote goes to Rakim.

PS, your avatar is gross as hell.

Time 01-10-2009 03:21 PM

Would Gutter Tactics be a good starting album for getting into Dalek? I've heard a few songs here and there, just don't have a full album.

pixiesfanyo 01-10-2009 03:44 PM

all the albums are pretty much the same.

kingsoby1 01-10-2009 05:09 PM

gutter tactics is better than abandoned language production-wise... absence is a lot noisier. regardless, dalek is not a very good mc... solid lyricist, but you really gotta be listening to it for the oktopus beats.

pixiesfanyo 01-12-2009 11:31 AM
