It's so hard to not just download a song, being a member of the Opeth forum, I'm being offered it and stuff but I don't want to accept it. It's like being a Priest in a Brothel. :upset:
Or an elementary school? ;) |
Does anobody know what happened with Lopez? is he fired or it were rumors only?
They were rumors. He's actually sick with some disease or something. It sounds like he's fine. Guess who's filling in for him on tour? Gene Hoglan! Here's the story: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=39858 |
I ****ing fell in love with Opeth at Sounds of the Underground... there amazing and there lead singer has one of the best voices i have ever heard.
|
Opeth played here last night.. it was so fucking good... they started with Deliverance, then To Rid The Deisease, The Grand Conjuration, and finised with, ofcourse, Demon Of The Fall. It was so amazing.. and they said they were coming back to do a full tour!! I got my setlist signed, my ticket signed, and my new Ghost Reveries shirt signed by Mike. :D It was the best day evvveeeeeeeeeeeer!!

I've been reading people talk about how different the acoustic sections were on earlier albums and how they miss those parts. All I can think is; guys, everything is different from album to album!!! The only two Opeth albums that sound similar are Orchid and Morningrise (and that's because some of Morningrise was intended to be on Orchid!)
Orchid and Morningrise were very twin-guitar-like and had some fairly poor transitions in them. Both are fantastic albums My Arms, Your Hearse doesn't hardly sound like the same band!!! It's like Mikael said, "Okay, I can do twin guitar harmony, but I'm going to write the most brutal riffs I can possibly come up with!" MAYH is one of the most unique Opeth albums; it almost doesn't even sound like the same band! However, nothing medieval in the clean stuff (I don't consider it so, at least). Still Life did have very medieval sounding acoustic parts, but that completely fits the concept! It's written about that sort of time period. The riffs in this album are nowhere near as brutal as the ones on MAYH. To me, they sound like they're swinging all over the place (in a good way!!!). BWP has some incredibly brutal riffs on it (IMHO), but in a very similar style to those on Still Life. Nothing medieval about the heavy or clean riffs on this album. The longest clean part on the album (except the instrumental) is in the song Blackwater Park. It is very haunting and moody, but not medieval. ****ation was it's own album, and Deliverance was all about being brutal. The acoustic parts were typically precursors to a heavy riff or very weird and spacey. The acoustic section in the song Deliverance right before the outro riff is *almost* medieval, but still not quite there. I don't write all this as though you guys have never heard the albums; that's obviously not the case. I just think that the only Opeth album that sounds truly medieval is Still Life. And every single Opeth album sounds completely unique in itself in both heavy and clean styles. That's what makes Opeth so great!!! I dunno; it's all oppinion anyway. This is just mine :) |

I am so jealous of you.....I don't think I'll ever get to see Opeth, living in Ireland :( |
I dunno, man...I'd say that "Godhead's Lament" has got to be one of Opeth's all time heaviest numbers...also one of my favorites. And, uh...BWP...what about Harvest? The Drapery Falls?

Yeah, but you live in Ireland. That rules. ;) |
I'd say the first minute of april ethereal is pretty **** heavy.
Did anyone agree that some of the riffs on the new album sound very toolish an example: 1:36 - 1:50 in Ghost Of Perdition. Also the start of 'The Grand Conjuration' sounds almost Meshuggah like. |

seeing as this is your first post and you fell in love with em. You must be diehard about now |
One thing I just recently noticed(or at least actually payed attention to)about MAYH is how no song on there reaches the 10 minute mark.Pretty interesting considering the shortest song on the album before it is 10:09(Nectar).I wonder what the fan reaction to that was back then.

I DON'T CARE I WANT THE ACOUSTICS BACK BECAUSE THEY RULE HARDER THAN BORING "CLEAN GUITARS."
I don't want Opeth sounding like Pink Floyd when they go clean, I want them sounding like Steve Howe doing Roundabout. :D EDIT: I'm not really as close-minded in general as the above statement would indicate, only when it comes to Opeth. ;) |
I'm going tomorrow to get me an opeth album (and possible some metallica and refused but thats not the point), So i was wondering, should I get blackwater park, still life, or orchid? Oh and by the way I don't own any opeth albums. So i was wondering which one is a good place to start. I'm guessing blackwater park since it is so well known. But I'm not sure.

Blackwater Park! It was my first purchase which led me to their other stuff. I only liked several parts at first, but I kept listening to it, and I began liking more and more. Well, now it's all awesome. It may not be your favorite after buying every album, but it's definetly a great place to start. |
I just d/l "Hours of wealth". AMAZING.

BWP or SL. Either way you're gonna be satisfied. |

I can sort of see the similarity, but it still has an "Opeth" feel to it. Good god, the first riff in The Baying Of The Hounds is just such a moshing riff \m/^_^\m/ It seriously kicks ***. |
I loaded it up on yousendit.I don't know if I should post it considering how many people are trying not to hear it until the 30th.That would be like waving heroin infront of a person who's trying to stay clean.
Please, sir, give me my fix. anticarnation@gmail.com |
So today, to resist downloading Ghost Reveries I am listening to my entire Opeth collection:
Blackwater Park Morningrise Still Life A few songs from each of the other albums Mmmmmm :) |

Sheesh... Sounds better than whan I saw them! I saw Opeth in Orlando... Well. First off. They had no sound check. They all came out, (Martinless of course), and Peter started the chords to the Drapery Falls... And when everything came in, all you could hear was a mass buzzing of bass frequencies. You could see Mike playing his lead...But could not hear anything. Shortley after, in the clean section, Martin's bass head started going haywire, screetching, and distorting... Mean while, the bass drums were incredibly to loud, overpowering everything. This happend throughout the whole show... Not to mention they played only three songs, Drapery, Conjuration, and Demon, (Demon was a shortened version, maybe over 5 mins.) There was no Opeth meet and greet either.... But as I said in an earlier post, just seeing them in person was worth the ticket price. |
Wow.. They had a massive sound check when I was there. It took like 10 min, and the sound was perfect.
Oh and our Demon Of the Fall was definatly extended. Before they play that little riff after the first growled verse there was this really long note held then added with feedback... then there during the instrumental sections it felt like they added a few bars. |
Wow, I wish I could of been at your show... That's awesome. Guess I'll just have to wait for the fall tour!
|
I saw them in Minnesota with Devildriver and Moonspell. I don't care too much for those bands - I was only there to see Opeth of course. It was definately the best concert I've ever seen and I've been to quite a few. The only thing that bothered me - is they didn't play anything from Morningrise.
Black Rose Immortal would of been a badass way to end that concert. Still - Demon Of The Fall was outstanding live. I had goosebumps while slam-moshing! ''Lying restful safe in my arms steady rhythm trust she'll come to no harm feel her tremble as the nightmare begins sleep the horror as the nightmare it ends'' |

Do you know what acoustic and/or electric acoustic guitars Opeth uses?

I saw that show in Toronto. No Lynyrd Skynyrd, but Opeth played the intro of Billie Jean by MJ. |
Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Opeth is the best band in the world(in my opinion).Every single friking song ive heard from them has been like getting an orgasm :thumb:
I currently have a band and we are trying to play their genre, but it's preety hard; especially doing the lyrics. But they have been the most loyal band i'd know(music wise).Hopefully they will keep on playing for more to come :D |
