That's pretty cool. I guess James has really found himself after beating alcholism.

I didn't know that we were talking for Metallica or thrash. I thought we were talking about drummers in general.

Chu 03-09-2006 08:29 PM

That is true, but I don't see how anyone could say Dave is the best METAL drummer, unless talking about thrash...

That said, has anyone read PinkFreud's FA on Buckethead?
I think you should, it's pretty good, and most noticebly(sp?) (For me at least, although I believe some other people are interested in it too) is this:
Praxis:
Praxis is a super-group compiled by[sic?] Bill Laswell. In 1992, their debut, Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis) came out. The line-up for the album is a stunner. With Buckethead on guitar, Bootsy Collins on bass, Brain on drums, Bernie Worrell of Funkadelic and Parliament fame on keys, and Afrika Babybam from the Jungle Brothers on the turntables, this album couldn’t possibly fail. And it does not disappoint in the least. A mix of electronica, thrash-metal, and funk, the album is a highlight of Buckethead’s career. There’s no shortage of anything on it. Metatron came next with only the core band of Buckethead, Brain, and Laswell. Not as strong as the debut but an excellent showcase for Buckethead’s ability. Following this, they released Sacrifist featuring guest vocals by the Boredoms’ Yamatsuka Eye. Sacrifist is heavier than its predecessors. It’s pure sonic assault and is a very solid release. By Warszawa the band was merely a shell of what it used to be but were still pushing boundaries. Recorded live, Warszawa is more hip-hop oriented. Still only the core three members, the group is fleshed out by three D.J.s who add their own twists to the sound.
Pan-Tallica 03-09-2006 09:59 PM
Nile's drummer completely murders Dave Lombardo on drums. Zakk Wylde and Slash aren't that great either but Zakk is holding back some of his technique.
I'd take Randy over Zakk, but that's off topic...
James = Metallica. Without James there is not Metallica. Lars just adds a little bit of fire to James and a few lyrics that a nice but James is the main cat. Without James there will never be a Metallica.
Yeah, If James had lost to alcohol, or died instead of Cliff way back around RTL days I believe (What year was it?), Metallica wouldn't be the same. Kirk IS replacable, so is Rob, but Lars probably not. I'd kinda like to see Lars and Mustaine make up and Mustaine tour with Metallica for a bit... NEVER gonna happen, but it would be cool.

BLS_Infernus 03-09-2006 10:02 PM

Lars doesn't even care about Mustaine.

Metallica + Megadeth in 1991 or 1992 was sweet.

Chu 03-09-2006 10:24 PM

Burton died in 1986... Dunno what month etc. But it's his 20 years later this year.

um yes he does. they were best mates with the rest of the band except Ron

all his technuqes are in his songs. and i dont think theres such a thing as "holding back technique", its either he uses it in his songs or he doesent have it

at first I didn't realize that your birthday was probably in the same YEAR, and i was gonna call you stupid for making a big deal out of having it in the same month. :upset: i'm sorry for judging you.

Mustaine tour with Metallica for a bit....
K, no. That would be terrible. Mustaine deserves to rot in the whole he dug himself with Metallica. He was removed for a reason, he sucks anyways, he should give up on the whole "omgz ima cry i got kiked out of metallica 3902840934 years ago but i still whine about it"

Kirk is replaceable, but there again, you're losing Metallica. Kirk is alot of Metallicas sound too, Id rather they just quit making music than to lose Kirk.

Zakk's best technique is Pinching, and anyone can do that. I don't really like him that much.

Yep, spot on.

I might be going download. If i decide to go to Wacken, it's doubtful.

metallica sucks always has and always will
i think their only good album is master of puppets and mainly kill em all
no new stuff
i suggest pantera or in flames

You have 30 seconds to convince me about your statement.

Go.

2muchket! 03-10-2006 12:48 PM
Yeah. Metallica - Lars = Bad news for songwriting.

Maybe if they quit producing, and just toured, it wouldnt be so bad, and then it would devistate the Metallica population period.

Lars is, and always has been, and probably always will be, Metallica.
James is more of the driving force, but come on in some cases one person can make the band, but I wouldn't say so in Metallicas case

BassMasterMike88 03-10-2006 12:51 PM

To be honest SDMF I would rather that didn't happne, I wouldn't want Metallica to become the joke that The Rolling Stones are now, way past their prime with no orginalty left, and the same line up again and again and again every year. The Stones are almost a self-parody at this point, I can't picture Metallica as that.

No, it's not a big deal. And I was born a year after which would be like 1 year after his death. But no it's not a big deal.

I suggest In Flames blows. =\

Pantera isnt great either.

Dimebag had some great skrillz, but other than that, no.

BLS_Infernus 03-10-2006 02:24 PM

Megadeth has toured with Metallica. It was in 1992 and that was one of the best shows EVER.

Zakk Wylde actually is holding back some of his technique if you seen a video. Can't remember what it's called but I'll find it. He shows that he can actually sweep and do sweep tapping.

Lars doesn't care about Mustaine anymore. He said it in an interview after hearing Mustaine complain about his part in Some Kind of Monster and LArs said that it was a bitch move and he could careless about Mustaine now.

BLS_Infernus 03-10-2006 02:28 PM

Here is the video. Zakk shows that he can do but explains that he doesn't like to do it because it's someone else's sig. thing.

The only thing about Dimebag is he didn't know jack **** about guitar. He just played enough to know what sounds like whats and he could do a few harmonic tricks. That's a great ability to have but his lack of theory made Pantera crap. I like some Pantera songs as well but people are getting way to overrated with this just because the man died.

I whole-heartedly agree.

And I have the video on DVD where Zakk does the whole sweep picking and tapping and all that stuff, but he says he doesnt do it because its Vai and Petrucci or whoever he says' thing.

Dimebag didn't have the theory but wrote some very catchy and sweet riffs/solos.

In Flames are incredible. The old stuff is better though the new stuff is great as well. Reroute was awful though.

I dunno Reroute is definetly there worst album. But 'Trigger' and the self title track are incredible. I also like the first 4 or five tracks. The rest sucks pretty much though. But alot of bands have at least one lame album, Machine head-Supercharger, Metallica-StAnger, Slayer- Undisputed attitude.......

.:Thrasher:. 03-10-2006 06:59 PM

Pantera ows all. lets leave it at that.

dimenwylde22 please shutup you pantera fanboy.

man its been so long since ive listend to metallica. they dont give me that edge anymore but give me a year or until there new album comes out and il be listening to them much more.
