I love Yes, Close to the Edge is a masterpiece.
Yeah I picked up Yessongs, Relayer, and Going For The One, last week...which completes my Yes collection.

Glitterati 10-29-2005 10:29 AM
Man. I am obsessed with Yes. Close to the Edge is just too good. Any other Yes heads.
I'm really getting into Yes. I'm on a total prog kick lately.

RockISdead420 10-29-2005 10:31 AM

You should check out their album Going For The One...one of my favs from them right now. a bit different but just as good.

Illmatic 10-29-2005 10:36 AM

My nominees:

1. Paul McCartney (The Beatles, Wings, etc.)
2. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
3. Gregg Allman (Allman Brothers Band)
4. Chris Cornell (Soungarden)
5. David Bowie
6. Jack Bruce (Cream)
7. Roger Daltrey (The Who)
8. Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
9. John Fogerty (CCR)
10. Nick Cave (The Birthday Party, The Bad Seeds)
11. Carl Wilson (Beach Boys)
12. Bob Dylan
13. David Byrne (Talking Heads)
14. Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones)
15. Neil Young
16. Iggy Pop
17. Damon Albarn (Blur)
18. Jarvis Cocker (Pulp)
19. Chuck Berry
20. Corey Glover (Living Colour)
21. Marc Bolan (T. Rex)
22. Roger Miller/Clint Conley (Mission of Burma)
23. Shane McGowan (The Pogues)
24. Kim Deal (Pixies)
25. Black Thought (The Roots)

I can't believe Zack De La Rocha is going to make it but Black Thought isn't :upset:

And when Yes comes up, I have the same response every time: They seem pretty mediocre to me.

np: Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode
I prefer Richard Manuel's voice to Levon Helm's, but they're both great. I nominated them and Rick Danko.
I just looked it up and yes, Richard Manuel was who I was actualy talking about. :upset:

JonG 10-29-2005 10:47 AM

Is Richard Manuel the drummer? I like his voice the best in The Band.

Illmatic 10-29-2005 10:48 AM

Didn't everyone except Robbie Robertson sing in The Band? I could never really tell them apart, but I haven't listened to a lot of The Band's material.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 10-29-2005 10:53 AM
Is Richard Manuel the drummer? I like his voice the best in The Band.
He plays drums but apparently Levon Helm does too.

robo2448 10-29-2005 10:57 AM

Robertson and Garth Hudson didn't sing. I can tell their voices apart. It took me a really long time though and the only reason I am able to do it now is that the linear notes for The Band's greatest hits cd tells who song each song.

Edit- Levon Helm was The Band's drummer. Richard Manuel played piano. But Manuel could also play drums, and on some songs like When I Paint My Masterpiece Levon Helm plays mandolin so Richard has to take over on drums.

Anyone think I should include Ringo in my vocalist nominations?

Walrus Gumboot 10-29-2005 11:01 AM
He plays drums but apparently Levon Helm does too.
My dad said that he played guitar and drums at the same time. I guess he met him once upon a time

Illmatic 10-29-2005 11:03 AM
Anyone think I should include Ringo in my vocalist nominations?
He wasn't really anything special as a singer.

JonG 10-29-2005 11:06 AM

Whoever drummed and sang on The Weight is the singer I like.

robo2448 10-29-2005 11:10 AM
Whoever drummed and sang on The Weight is the singer I like.
For the weight, Levon Helm sang the first 3 verses and drummed. Rich Danko sang the fourth verse. The linear notes for The Band's greatest hits are like a fucking biography. I love them they're so detailed. Probably the best linear notes out of any cd I have.

jpj 10-29-2005 11:11 AM
Whoever drummed and sang on The Weight is the singer I like.
That's Levon Helm.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 10-29-2005 11:14 AM

Oh....so I am right? The one I'm talking about sings the first few lines in "The Weight" too. Moon's reveiw says Manuel sang it.....oh god......

Badmoon 10-29-2005 11:21 AM

I admitted that I knew nothing of the musicians on that album or of the band.

JonG 10-29-2005 11:29 AM

I don't. I only know Robbie.

I need to watch The Last Waltz again. I got it sometime ago and loved it(it got me into The Band).

np: Mr. Spaceman :)

This song reminds me of the second part in "A Day In The Life"

Illmatic 10-29-2005 12:17 PM

Schyma: If you still have that article talking about Led Zeppelin's many thefts, could you link me to it?

Jacaranda 10-29-2005 12:29 PM

http://www.furious.com/perfect/jimmypage.html
Would that be it?

Edit: I just figured out that your User Title is from "Rosa Parks', I knew I knew the song but the only thing I could think of is Deep Purple's "Hush".

DeusExMachina 10-29-2005 12:46 PM

That's the article. I found it very interesting. And it furthered my lack of respect for Led Zeppelin.

JonG 10-29-2005 04:17 PM

Man, slow day.

Yea, that's Helm.

TheDMV 10-29-2005 05:17 PM

Has anyone else included Pigpen in their nominations list? HE is my favorite singer from the Greatful Dead.

temporary 10-29-2005 05:32 PM

So, I just got back from Cornell University, where I was visiting my sister with my dad. I had a great two days, and on the way back I was introduced to the genius of Wilco.

Cool. I'm still waiting to be introduced to the genius of Wilco. I haven't listened to enough of their stuff to make a decision on them yet, I didn't find their stuff that I have listened to that interesting.

I reviewed John Barleycorn Must Die. Everybody go comment.
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=4112#comments

I wrote a pretty shit review at first because I was in a hurry, but I edited and hopefully it's a little better now.

I read the review, and its pretty very good. You gave good detail on the tracks. I haven't heard any of this album, though. Pretty much all I've heard by Traffic is Mr. Fantasy.

blue3 10-29-2005 06:57 PM

My friend saw the Stones last night, and she's on the newspaper.

JonG 10-29-2005 07:11 PM

I made a review on Rory Gallagher's "Irish Tour" album, but it has to get OK-ed by a moderator at sputnik. :)

My first review:

Would somebody upload Bob Dylan's Visons Of Johanna for me? My version got ripped bad :upset:

Krabsworth 10-29-2005 07:46 PM

Forget it I'm stealing it off limewire.

Krabsworth 10-29-2005 07:50 PM

Forget THAT limewire doesn't even have it!!!

blue3 10-29-2005 07:51 PM

Haha. That sucks.. I don't have it either.

JonG 10-29-2005 07:51 PM

Heh. I will.

I also made another review. Oh dear, when boredom strikes.

At the same time

Well, I guess this is one of those rare occasions where your very own Walrus Gumboot is as high as a kite
DO any of you regular potheads let some weed sit for a few days in some kind of hard alcohol and just take it like that?

Tomorrow is my one-year anniversary

Krabsworth 10-29-2005 08:16 PM

Anybody want to upload Fresh Cream for me? :upset:

Lunch 10-29-2005 08:17 PM

Probably for her MX join date.

I was quite high/drunk myself last night, seeing as how I was at some costume parties and I went as a hippie/70's guy.

I could do it, but only if you edit your posts instead of double-posting.

Okay there you go.

I don't think gay marriage is legal here

The best halloween party was a couple of weeks ago, and the three people that showed up high got kicked out. It really sucked to, because they were easily the most entertaining people there.
