tbh, I'm glad Cliff died, gives us something to talk about :p
=\ K.

To be honest, nobodies death is a good thing. Just so we can talk about it? Sure, it was a mark in Metal history, and always will be, but its not really worth just being able to talk about it. Being crushed by a bus is pretty damned bad. :S

Bazarov 03-08-2006 10:14 PM

Didn't someone in here make a tribute song called "Trapped Under A Bus"? I know that's messed up, but I find it funny. Like that Fetus Eaters song, "The Bus Should Have Fell on Lars" or "Cliff Burton Surprise".

Chu 03-08-2006 11:01 PM

Yeah but Cliff Burton Surprise has nothing to do with Cliff, if I remember correctly?

SDMF, I'm not glad Cliff died, it's just his name (Next to "Dave Mustaine!", "Lars is a greedy dickhead", "Metallica has sold out", "List your favourite albums/songs/group members" etc.) is the most common thing in this thread.

Had he not died, there'd have been no Jason Newstead.. Everyone loves to bag out so much.

Bazarov 03-08-2006 11:26 PM

Yeah, Cliff Burton Surprise is just a title.

Wow, they all seem pretty harsh.

Chu 03-09-2006 02:44 AM

The last one is by The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza...

I did download it, I don't think it has anything to do with Cliff Burton:
I
I swear to you
You will never see me coming
Voice
Voice of reason
No longer walks
My
My whole life has been this
Conviction
Remembrance of this to wage
War of these ones we've lost
To wage war
As you face your fate
As you face fate
Blades latched to forever
Coerced through embraced yesterdays
As you can see, not a lot to do with Mr. Burton.

I haven't heard of "The Bus Should Have Fell on Lars", but if anyone here has it, send it to me, please
Eh, whether you all agree or not, Lars is Metallica.

Without Lars, Metallica = $hit.

Sure, Lars got mad about the Napster thing, but you cant honestly tell me you wouldn't. I dont know why everyone turns against him for something that stupid. Its a common ordeal, it happens everyday with millions of people.

You cant honestly tell me if you wrote a song like Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Creeping Death, SBT, FWTB, all of those great songs, you wouldnt be pissed to find out someone was taking your works ILLEGALLY. Seriously, think about it.

Without Lars, Metallica wouldn't be half as creative on the percussion side of things. Nor the production side of things.

I can tell you, I wouldnt listen to the new Metallica if they got rid of Lars. I want the chosen 4. I really dont like Rob, but since Cliff died, Jason was a suitable replacement. Rob is really nothing to brag about unless he proves otherwise on the new album. Metallica is James, Kirk, and Lars. Rick Rubin may prove to be useful, but Im not getting my hopes up too terribly high. All good things come to an end, and I believe, if Lars left Metallica, this good thing would come to an end.

So, sup Metallica, Inc?
I endorse this post.
Like him or not, he is Metallica.

SimonCore 03-09-2006 11:11 AM

Lars isn't that good on drums. And Rob is equally good or if not better on bass than Cliff.

It's a shame really because if Lars died so would Metallica. I'd love to see them with a thrashier drummer.

Lars ownly took Napster to court because When I Disappear was leaked onto the internet before it was released.

Father_Jack 03-09-2006 12:17 PM

I was watching the you tube video of Battery at download. I have the audio but it never really hit me before. The double bass just after the solo is like :amaze:

PepsiMetal 03-09-2006 12:22 PM

Heh, it's like bullets shot from ak47 or something non-stop.

Yeah man, Dave Lombardo rules. Check this out also, the bit at the end is even more :amaze:

Wait...so has Dave played drums live for Battery??...if so..thats hardcore....battery owns!!!! ROCK ON!!!!

Father_Jack 03-09-2006 02:06 PM
Wait...so has Dave played drums live for Battery??...if so..thats hardcore....battery owns!!!! ROCK ON!!!!
Yeah he played Battery and Four Horsemen for Metallica at download '04 when Lars was ill.

hetfieldfan86 03-09-2006 02:08 PM

I knew he played...just not on Battery....thats sweet....i seriously think Battery is the best Heavy Metal-thrash tune ever written/....after "....puppets"....and since Dave is like the best drummer in metal...kicka**!!!.....the ultimate for me would be liek Zakk or Slash jammin with 'tallica sometime. ROCK ON!!!!

Hetfield fan, look ^^^

BLS_Infernus 03-09-2006 03:59 PM

Metallica without Lars would hurt a lot. The writing has always been James and Lars. Sometime Cliff, Kirk and rarely Jason. Without Lars it would be worse. I like Dave Lombardo but he would hurt Metallica. He doesn't really do anything for lyrics which is one of Lars's strong points as well as decent beats. Dave could slay Lars on drums and double bass but his beats aren't for Metallica and he would kill some of the writing.

P.S. That video of Joey shows how sloppy he is.
Hetfield fan, look ^^^
Man that brings back memories of 2 years ago.

Dreaming Neon Black 03-09-2006 04:09 PM

Yeah. Metallica - Lars = Bad news for songwriting.

Maybe if they quit producing, and just toured, it wouldnt be so bad, and then it would devistate the Metallica population period.

Lars is, and always has been, and probably always will be, Metallica.

BLS_Infernus 03-09-2006 04:14 PM

James = Metallica. Without James there is not Metallica. Lars just adds a little bit of fire to James and a few lyrics that a nice but James is the main cat. Without James there will never be a Metallica.

Yeah, James is equally part. This is my view.

James, 45% of the pie, Lars is a good 30%, and Kirk is 25%.

Still, without Lars, or Kirk, especially James for that matter, there is no Metallica.

PepsiMetal 03-09-2006 04:38 PM

Those are the only 2 vids that I've seen from 04 download. Which sucks cause I would want to see rest of it as well. Grrrr..

But yea James is metallica really, not lars. Cliff was a good addon to metallica as well, ah well. But without lars metallica wouldn't be this big. He probably took care of business-side of the band.

Dreaming Neon Black 03-09-2006 04:45 PM

Ah yes, Ive been meaning to ask this..

Does ANYONE know where I can find a live vid of Orion, full, or TO LIve is To Die? Live?

PepsiMetal 03-09-2006 04:48 PM

Did they ever even play TLITD? I'd LOVE to see a vid of that live. Orion, meh, they played some of it last november, I don't like the song much in general though.

Jev 03-09-2006 04:59 PM

I doubt they ever played TLITD live.

Dave being "like" the best drummer in metal? NOT EVEN CLOSE KID
You have no idea what's out there and what makes Dave seem like a kid on a drumset.

BLS_Infernus 03-09-2006 07:34 PM

Nile's drummer completely murders Dave Lombardo on drums. Zakk Wylde and Slash aren't that great either but Zakk is holding back some of his technique.

Kirk isn't Metallica imo, he's quite replacable, to the point where I think Kirk should have been lost in the bus accident, and Burton still around today, imo, Kirk hasn't written or played anything decent since Master anyway, so not a big loss!
Ah yes, Ive been meaning to ask this..

I don't know about TLITD, but they've never played Orion in it's entirety(sp?), Dream Theater has though :p (They do an equally good job, even a little jam at the end!), but with Rob, things look good.. :D
Nile's drummer completely murders Dave Lombardo on drums. Zakk Wylde and Slash aren't that great either but Zakk is holding back some of his technique.
Nile's drummer wouldn't sound good in Metallica though, I think when he's saying best metal drummer, he means best thrash drummer.. (i.e. Like me, and a few others here his favourite genre of metal is thrash, so when he thinks of best artist he thinks in terms of thrash...)

You can't really say a metal artist is better then another one, because there's too many factors imo (Especially comparing say a thrash drummer (Dave), to a brutal tech death drummer (Nile, same drummer for Origin and Berzerker, right?))

You're right, but let's not start another drummer arguement that we had a couple pages back.

Anyone read this?

James to be honoured. :smoke: Nothing with music though. lol
