Saw parliament Funkadelic on Saturday, so I've been digging some of their stuff lately. They were an experience.

The Ruby Suns- Sea Lion

Only listened to this a couple times but it's great, one of my fave 08 releases.

Akron/Family - Love is Simple

I really need to get that Ruby Suns album, they were great live.

perriwinkle 04-10-2008 10:13 PM

saw them live with Le Loup. they were really amateur and awkward, except for the main guy. he was awesome. and he had this standup drumset and when he jammed on that, like wowww that was definitely the coolest parts of the show

okay 04-11-2008 02:32 AM

Torche - Meanderthal
Principles Of Geometry - Lazare
Withstand - Light of a New Day...

Jacaranda 04-11-2008 07:14 AM

still The American Analog Set - From Our Living Room to Yours this is pretty good especially "Magnificent Seventies" i've fallen asleep to it for a few nights ever since i decided the reason i'm not sleeping good is because i wake up every hour to loud burzum which scares me.

pixiesfanyo 04-11-2008 01:10 PM

Mahjongg - Kontpab

reminds me of Battles meeting the Talking Heads.

perriwinkle 04-11-2008 01:14 PM

didnt really think that but i like Mahjongg

pixiesfanyo 04-11-2008 01:15 PM

that is because you've probably never listened to the Talking Heads perriwinkle.

A Dead Modernist 04-11-2008 01:47 PM

Efterklang - Tripper
No Age - Weirdo Rippers
The Knife - Silent Shout

Against Miik! 04-11-2008 04:04 PM

I've been diggin the new Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin album. It really sucks that they have the worst name ever for a band, because they are a really solid indie pop group. Well, actually, more than solid. They are probably one of the better groups in the genre today. I like to think if The Beach Boys made were around today making contemporary music, this is what it would sound like.

Let me know if you want a link to the album.

Little Man being Erased 04-11-2008 07:21 PM

hey peeps long time no see.

Dig:
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
My Disco - Cancer
Life Without Buildings - Any Other City
Unwound - Repetition

Other than that I'm reading Rip It Up and Start Again at the moment, so I'm listening to some post-punk era bands. Gang of Four, Devo, Mekons, umm and some others that I'm forgetting.

perriwinkle 04-11-2008 07:47 PM

alright guys this single song embodies everything that i ever dug about thrash metal.. like i really couldnt even think of a better thrash/speed song than this right now. and its because they didnt take themselves too seriously, thats what really kills a lot of bands, its why most metal just sucks ***. these guys just rock the **** out though and have some pretty ridiculous lyrics a lot of the time. and i mean like theres the kind of heavy music that people here like, but none of it sounds like this. when you need this kinda ****, which sometimes i do, Nuclear Assault is really the only way to go. it also embodies a lot of what i dig about punk and hardcore in general, which is one of the reasons i like thrash / speed metal specifically, because i feel like it was a direct extension of that sound and those ideas. its just given more form in this context. ive listened to this about 4 times at max volume in the past 2 days. the drummer is what makes it, really. also, its from 1991, to give it context
