I never really thought of Woe as post-bm, they have some pretty straightforward stuff. I mean it's definitely clean productionwise but it's not all shoegazey and atmospheric like post-bm usually is.

Who said Woe is post-bm so I can fight them at a show.

People try to group together atmospheric black metal and post bm and just call it all atmospheric bm but it's not the same. post bm has the shoegaze and post rock elements and usually a lot cleaner production than atmospheric black metal. Atmospheric black metal is a lot closer to traditonal black metal and from what I see, it started with Burzum, trying to create a dreamlike/trance feel to the songs with longer, absorbing tracks.

for one i think the term 'atmospheric' being used for a genre is just idiotic. every single song in the world has an atmosphere of some kind. i've always thought this was so fucking stupid.

post black metal would literally mean using black metal conventions to create something that isn't wholly black metal. which is exactly what bands called post black metal are. it's a good term, just like post rock, post punk, post metal, post hardcore, etc etc

the word post in reference to music literally means 'using the conventions of [genre] to create something that isn't wholly [genre]'. post rock has nothing to do with post punk, just like post metal has nothing to do with post hardcore. "post" in itself isn't a 'sound' or 'style'

what about depressive black metal? raw black metal? It's all under the BM banner but if you want to describe a bands sound that is what you use. Same with atmospheric and post-bm
