Well, it might just be intentional. As far as I know the band loves Symphony X, Rody definitely does, and he also mentioned Russell Allen a couple of time in interviews as one of his all time favorite singers.
I doubt they intentionally played off the riff but they were definitely huge fans at one point. I went to one of Tim and Arif's DJ sets years ago and they played like six Symphony X songs. At a DJ set. |
moonlights is fun as fuck to listen to
|
Love that part about half way through Hair-Trigger.
|
finally got through my first listen. favorite tracks were hair-trigger, thermites, tongue-splitter and the dog barks. though i agree, cat meows were better
so far i like it, need to listen to it more though |
Heh, some teenage kid on Rody's facebook page is bitching about the same things as beso negro. He says there are no growls and it makes him sad:(:D Some of us (including Rody himself) told him to shut the fuck up and grow up..
tell rody to go fuck himself and his suddenly serious and mature vocals. sorry but i don't take music too seriously i'm not a pretentious ass like rody. can't believe i spent so much money on pth band tshirts and tab books. dimmu burger do you want my ticket to the baltimore show cuz im not going now |
i think tapestry is my favorite so far
chris just keeps getting fatter |
i still can't get over him referencing chris on the album
what a pretentious asshole |
Some screaming definitely would have been nice (I keep waiting for them to bust out at the end of Dunsel) but their absence isn't as big a deal as I thought it would be. It's been said before just saying it again.

who the bitch is chris
|
one of rody's friends. he's in cheddar cheese with rody and tim also. rody used to always write joke songs about him.
|
I wish I could still listen to this band. I can't anymore. I get really bored and feel like it's something I would have listened to when I was like 14.
|
It's weird to think that I started listening to them when I was 14. They've been around forever for a bunch of 25 year olds.

Yeah they have. Idk the new album just feels really samey. And I feel like their songwriting will never measure up to Kezia ever again. They're too spazzy nowadays. Not enough hooks and good songwriting. |
your idiocy really blows me away every time
your idiocy really blows me away every time
Your ignorance really blows me away every time. Mainly because you're an asshole. |
I was reading some of the last.fm (lol) comments and I like how everyone expects Rody to be Arif. As much as I was iffy hearing Rody wrote lyrics this time around, they aren't half bad. It sounds like they're just having fun with this record and I'm sure Rody is mighty happy to sing his own lyrics, and not someone else's.

I'm not saying the lyrics are bad. The songwriting just isn't as good. |

I know, that comment wasn't specifically directed at you, in general about the bitchiness of how the lyrics aren't "up to usual standards". But disregarding the lyrics, you can't deny the music isn't top notch. They've definitely gotten tighter I think. |
read that back and tell me if it makes any sense whatsoever
Why don't you just not be an asshole for a minute? Is that possible? Probably not. Edit@Shortz: Yeah the musicianship is definitely really good. I just wish they wrote more well put-together songs. |
If anything their songwriting is better than ever. Have you listened to the new album, Kyle?
|
If anything their songwriting is better than ever. Have you listened to the new album, Kyle?
Yeah. Just got through it twice today actually. It just all sounds the same to me... but Hair Trigger really stood out though. Song is really good. |
It sounds the same to you because you only listened to it twice. The fact that you're saying it's not as hook-oriented and that the songwriting isn't as strong just tells me you wrote it off too fast. It's a bit of a blur at first, but it's easily their most cohesive and fluidly written album yet.
|
Yeah I definitely need to listen to it more, it's really a grower.

Alright. I'll give it a few more listens tomorrow and see if it grows on me at all. I still love Kezia though. I go back and listen to that at least once a month. |
pth were best on ...search for the truth clearly
|
idk about that haha

hah, i found my copy of that not long ago along with a bunch of shitty old UO samplers |
They were in junior high when they recorded/released that right?
I'd love to hear it just for the sake of hearing it haha. |
hah, i found my copy of that not long ago along with a bunch of shitty old UO samplers
ive had it sitting with the rest of my 7s forever lol UO samplers i have no idea if i have any of those things around |
They were in junior high when they recorded/released that right?
I'd love to hear it just for the sake of hearing it haha.
no, they were in high school. it wasn't even a year before their EP, but the jump in quality is pretty high. It only has two songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDpVMnxMDJU and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN1m3q2jP7Q I miss singing Silent Genocide (and Asperity of Sin) live. I still think Asperity of Sin and I Am Dmitri need to be rerecorded. |

I dunno about re-recording Dmitri though why fuck with a masterpiece so to speak. Though it would be interesting to see how they could improve it... |
rerecord it now that rody has a better voice i think he means
dont mess with it |
I dunno about re-recording Dmitri though why fuck with a masterpiece so to speak. Though it would be interesting to see how they could improve it...
By the time they'd stopped playing it live, there was a whole other layer of guitar work in it, and it was awesome. This is from one of the most fun shows I've ever been to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i57FZojWWOw And yeah, just to hear it without it being so nasally and with some of the newer guitar parts. They weren't too fancy, mostly just build-up leads in the background. |
i still can't get over him referencing chris on the album
what a pretentious asshole
Wait, Rody's a pretentious asshole for referencing chris? |
uh, no. i was making fun of beso's tantrum.
|
kyle wtf are you talking about kezia songwriting was disjointed
|
Ugh I miss shows like that, where it's more intimate. Reminds me of my first Protest show back in '05. Got my glasses knocked off my face and scratched up. As well as I saw so pushed against the stage it was like watching a movie sitting right in the front row. Such a good show :)
|
when did closet monster 'quit' and bombs over providence actually quit shortly after
show around that time @ the phoenix first pth show |
