I think Dream Theater have their moments of amazing melodic strength. Examples of this would be Overture 1928, Erotomania and the guitar solo in Under a Glass Moon. The problem with Dream Theater to me is that they play such a specific style of metal that can easily become laborious listening due to their ambitious composing.

What is this specific style of metal?
Because I have honestly never heard a band more varied than DT.

Deth 11-21-2005 09:16 AM

I'm dedicating a long portion of today to learning Erotomania on bass today.

Oh, and I got the links to the Wolverhampton gig videos on the MP forums and managed to download TGP before the links broke. It is awesome, great quality, only the first 8 mins though.
The video comes with the album, drop me your email and I'll upload it. That goes for anybody who wants it.

I wouldn't mind if you uploading TGP. *hint* *hint* *hint*

King_Of_Terrors 11-21-2005 08:07 PM

I've been meaning to come into the thread for awhile.

So in the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow thread, everyone was saying that Rudess played in The Dixie Dregs. I looked it up, and it wasn't. Bummer.

I missed Dream Theater on Gigantour, along with Symphony X, and Megadeth. Me = Pissed as hell.

Deth 11-21-2005 08:10 PM

I can now play Erotomania all the way through on bass .

I can play all of A Mind Beside Itself... :)

I read the weirdest thing about Jm. He's one of 6 people in the world with black iris's in his eye.

Does that give him the ability to shoot lasers from his eyes?

shamed-angel 11-23-2005 10:55 AM

No. It gives him the ability to play bass really well...
The other five are Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Ron Carter, John Entwhistle and Geddy Lee...
Just kidding :(

Yeah, same here.
Doesn't look like he's gonna get through though.
Actually, he's in second so it looks like he will. Harrison is in third, so I'm happy there, but Jeff Tate is doing awefully.... At least Cornell is in first.

shamed-angel 11-23-2005 11:45 AM

I definately think he's better than Cornell.
Daniel Gildenlow from Pain of Salvation is the best singer on the planet.

No way is that true. I mean, LaBrie's the man, but a very select few singers can touch Cornell. Have you heard anything by Temple of the Dog?

shamed-angel 11-23-2005 11:50 AM

I like what he does with his voice at the end of 'Show Me How To Live.'

Or is that like effects?

At the time of saying that, he was in 6th.

Lord Abortion 11-23-2005 11:59 AM

LaBrie is only behind Bruce and Matt Barlow as My favourite vocalists still in this poll.

Dani filth went out in the first poll and Corpsegrinder made it not, so...
