what is a Harpo?
|
Harpo's is a venue in Detroit. Many concerts are held there.
|
Whats up everyone? It's a pretty boring day, I've been practicing my bands songs cause I'm a bit sloppy. I've been listening to Are You Dead Yet? and it's starting to grow on me. Although just beucase I like it doesn't mean it's all that great musically. It seems to take after newer american metalcore/death metal, somewhere around the likes of Black Dhalia. I wish they still had a European sound but oh well it's still Bodom.
|
Howdy there Aces, I haven't seen you aound these parts in a while. :) It's good to hear you're getting used to the new Bodom. I knew you couldn't resist. I think it's focused more on catchiness and the "heavy ****ing metal in your face!!!" ideals than the neoclassical virtuosity of past works. I love it as you already know. I think thanks to Janne it still sounds very European.
|
Janne sounds way more industrial now than European. I must admit that is great music for when your angry, but I've always been a fan of melodic european stuff, and I was hoping I'd have some more of that to listen to. Oh well I've been listening to more and more death metal lately so I guess this is kind of good, it's got that angry feel but still the familiar Bodom sound. Everyone go to www.cobhc.com and vote for what songs they play on the tour. I voted for Kissing the Shadows, Lake Bodom, Warheart, and Towards Dead End.
|
I already voted. I made sure to since I'll be seeing them in November. I went with Kissing the Shadows, Bodom After Midnight, Bed of Razors, and Deadnight Warrior.
I forgot about the Industrial elements. I don't think Janne sounds Industrial - just his usual atmospheres set to heavier metal. And I thought you always hated death metal...? EDIT: Has the entire album still not leaked yet? :( |
I voted Follow the reaper, Hate me!, Siz pounder and bodom beach terror, even though i wont be there, the rest enjoy, and brag how good it was :(
|
If I can, I'll take lots of pics :)
I can't remember which ones I voted for, I did it yesterday when I was checking the tour dates. It was pretty random...there are too many good bodom songs to pick four favourites. |
I like some death metal, I'm usually not a fan. As far as straight death metal I don't listen to any but Melodeath is decent. Gothenburg I think of differently, In Flames and Dark Tranquility are awesome, but I am into Arch Enemy too and Black Dhalia is ok. Bodom is starting to sound more like that.
|
Except new Bodom is less technical than that stuff. :(
|
Yeah unfortunately. I still stand by my theory that Alexi thinks Sinergy will be his replacement as power metal. He uses them as an oppurtunity to do something new with Bodom. I think that whole process began with HCDR.
|
I would have never though of their new stuff sounding like Arch Enemy, it sounds too much like hardcore for that.
|
Someone agrees it sounds like hardcore finally...
Yeah I'm not sure if oyu heard the song Are You Dead Yet? It definately has some death metal in it. |
I haven't heard it, but I know someone posted it a few pages back.
/starts digging through the thread |
I posted it :p
|
I haven't heard anything new besides In Your Face and the cover since I'm waiting to get the entire album. It sounds promising if you say they have some death metal in there too.
But I still maintain that there isn't one single aspect of Bodom that's hardcore. *stamps foot* :) I don't think Sinergy will replace Bodom. They're a sideproject and I don't think they'll ever be more than that for Alexi. He loves CoB. He has CoB symbols tattoo'd all over his body and everything. He's said that he hasn't outgrown the neoclassical stuff, it just "isn't in right now". I guess he feels like it's time to experiment with Bodom. And I must say, I agree. After three blatantly power metal albums it would be boring as hell for the band and the fans to reuse the same style for several more albums. |
I'd never protest if he made more powermetal I thought htey were always innovative with it and it still sounds new when I listen to it. I don't see why trends would affect a band like that, neoclassical being in or not seems a bit ridiuclous for a reason.
I posted it :p
And I can't find it :upset: After this song I'm waiting until I get the album before I hear anything else off of it. After hearing TL&S and IYF...which are worlds apart, I'm being eaten with curiousity to find out what this song sounds like. |
This song sounds a lot like IYF. I think TL&S was the fluke of hte album, it sounded more like HCDR.
hxxp://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0FKE0YVGMW7QG01R5UL984F8O3 There's Are You Dead Yet? |

hxxp://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0FKE0YVGMW7QG01R5UL984F8O3 There's Are You Dead Yet?
Thanks, I'm downloading it now :D You're right about it sounding more like HCDR. I'm happier with it than with IYF, that was sorely disappointing. It's more dissonant, as opposed to the melodic stuff I'm used to hearing from bodom. I don't hear death metal influences though  Then again, I'm not that into death metal, and probably wouldn't be able to pick up the death influences. |
I'm sorry...it would be UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME if Bodom turned out to start sounding like Arch Enemy, while still keeping the neoclassical influences and the power metal keys.
That would be one of the most brilliant things I would ever hear. |
I agree, but Bodom's vocals will never be anything like Arch Enemy's.
|
Well i hope alexi dosent have a sex change and then tries to sing like a man >_<

lol ? |
hm...I don't really like Are You Dead Yet. In Your Face is ok. The verse sucks on both songs. the In Your Face verse is just breakbeat and fast with no real cool guitar melodies like in the early days. Are You Dead Yet is just DunDun DunDun DunDun and then some annoying dodo dododo guitar shit that sound slike it came from Slipknot or something. The best part is after all that when they go back to the main verse and he double bass kicks in. So far I like In Your Face better. I like the part when it just goes dodododo dodo do dododo dodo and they all yell "Incoming"

Listen up all. UPDATE ON THE IMPORT.
Scythes of Bodom has just emailed me and let me know that the DVD that was supposed to be released with the Japanese import has been cancelled. :upset: I heard Are You Dead Yet? and I'm not too fond of it. I actually like In Your Face better. What happened to the uploads of all the other songs that were leaked? Did someone upload them for this thread yet? |
I just voted for the live songs on cobhc.com
I picked: Red Light In My Eyes Part II Lake Bodom Warheart Angels Don't Kill |
:( No import DVD? That's disappointing. I love In Your Face and I'm sure I'll love the rest, so no worries there. But I wish we could get some sweet bonus stuff.
I have all of the tracks from the leaked sampler. If you want, I could upload them all somewhere. TSASI, your avatar makes me laugh. A lot. For a long time. |

I'm on Bodom After Midnight now, so wherever you'd like would be great. |
