how long would this take for me to get it working on OS X?
|
not much at all. I'm guessing the only thing you need to do is change the includes to the correct paths for Mac OS X. I'm not sure what they are myself. if you do it, feel very much free to fork the project and push the correct paths.
edit: or, according to a random person on the Internet that I don't know, it should "just work". |
haha last time I heard from someone that it should 'just work' regarding a project on github it didn't... This was at work, tried looking at the guy's code to get it to work and it was so bad fuuuuuck
all my superiors are OG computer scientists are all like 'fuck FOSS just buy the shit so you don't waste time on it' also keep in mind I'm a chemist not a computer scientist, I manage to get by but my unix wizardry is seriously lacking |
should just need to change the include paths from <SDL/SDL.h> to <SDL.h> or something.
also, your superiors are evidently morons. |
no not really
they're just old and impatient and didn't want to pay me to fight with FOSS if there was a proprietary version that worked out of the box ie wasn't my job to get that shit to work and yeah my incompetence with unix is showing, have no idea how to change the include paths nor a solid idea as to what that means. sorry bro |
there is no rule that says that proprietary software is more likely to work than free software. but with the latter, at least you stand a chance.
as for include paths, it has nothing to do with unix. it's in the source code. |
well their attitude is if you can find proprietary software that has been shown to work/you know will work they'll pay for it
we do use FOSS other places but like they're not afraid to pay for software but actually that package was the worst shit I've ever seen: incomprehensible and weird function and variable names, weird file structure, terrible documentation, almost no indenting, etc etc and yeah lol see? terrible comp knowledge, I just hack away basically. I've been focussing on the language we use at my job and just problem solving so I don't know almost any lingo/my vocabulary is dismal |
nerds.
well their attitude is if you can find proprietary software that has been shown to work/you know will work they'll pay for it
we do use FOSS other places but like they're not afraid to pay for software
there is commercial free software with support, just like there is proprietary software with support. there is shoddy free software with bad programming, just like there is shoddy proprietary software with bad programming. in both cases free software is the desirable option, because it let's you customise it (or hire someone to customise it) for your environment. |
somewhat true
there are some proprietary and commercial technologies that are just better than any free technologies (albiet the one we use we have direct contact with the language's author so we just get whatever we need fixed or implemented done) |
somewhat true
no, *completely* true.
there are some proprietary and commercial technologies that are just better than any free technologies (albiet the one we use we have direct contact with the language's author so we just get whatever we need fixed or implemented done)
just like there is free software that is miles ahead of its proprietary alternatives... |
