I have every Zappa album. I had a "Zappa kick" you could say. Listened to a bunch of Zappa.

Listen to his cover of Whippin' Post on "Does Humor Belong In Music".

It has some fantastic guitar work.
yep, its great. steve vai is playing there too, i think.

The new Paul McCartney album is pretty disappointing :-\

I really like "Fine Line", and "Friends To Go" is good, but most of what I've heard so far seems pretty bland.

That reminds me, I still haven't listened to Prairie Wind in it's entirety. The one time I tried to I fell asleep and woke up like 4 times during it.

The_Passenger 10-21-2005 03:06 AM
The new McCartney album is OK...definitely his best for a while, but no more than a 3/5. I think Nigel Godrich producing it probably helped quite a bit, as I haven't really liked any of McCartney's recent solo stuff, but his latest album is something that I can see myself returning to if I'm in the mood for something like that.
I've heard a fair bit about the new McCartney album, but not enough of it is positive for me to want to check it out.

Walrus Gumboot 10-21-2005 07:09 AM

I got both this monday, and I have to say, after listening to the first two tracks of each album, that Prarie Wind is superior. Maybe I'll get around to the third track to one of them, but I stopped after the 2nd track in Caos and Creation because it was a bit boring, and I can't get past No Wonder on Prarie Wind because it is so good

Hopefully soon I will have a more educated opinion

If these forums have taught me anything, it's how to listen to an album for the first time, some people can't even listn to an album the whole way through, or think of music as more than a collection of songs. I guess you could tell alot about people's way of looking at music by their mp3 players. If they go straight to the "All Tracks" or "Playlists" and never "Albums", I guess you could say that they are the hit single type

I still need to pick up Prairie Wind. Maybe I'll get it for my birthday.

magicbus 10-21-2005 10:21 AM

I rarely listen to single songs. Whenever I'm listening to music it's albums all the way through.

Tales from Rockology:

I got a 100% on my Beatles test  Today we watched videos of The Byrds and the Stones. "Eight Miles High" is a pretty awesome song. Makes me want to buy a 12 string.

thats an awesome song.

i didnt like the stones' new album very much, so maybe i'd like the mccartney one. but i doubt it. i was actually never a big fan of his solo career.

freakmeeko 10-21-2005 12:14 PM

"Jenny Wren" and "Follow me" are fantastic acoustics, I don't like "Fine Line" as much as everyone else. But really, Paul these days is celebrated for his live work. Rusty, Abe, Wix and Brian are fantastic, and need to make an album with Paul. Back in the US is better than people say it is (at least on the Macca forums) and the DVDs are awesome.

Have you heard Ram? It changed my mind about Paul's solo career

DeusExMachina 10-21-2005 01:53 PM

I like Paul's solo stuff. I just don't think it's anything beyond really fun pop/rock music. Granted, I'm no expert of his solo work, but the Beatles stuff was pretty consistently better than the post-Beatles stuff at the show I saw.

Illmatic 10-21-2005 01:54 PM

I actually do like Paul McCartney's first few solo albums.

Walrus Gumboot 10-21-2005 02:39 PM

Would anyone be willing to upload any of these?

Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention- We're Only In It For The Money
Pink Floyd- Saucerful of Secrets
Syd Barrett- Barrett or The Madcap Laughs
QMS- Anything besides Happy Trails and s/t

And now that that whoring is done I'd like to mention that other people think the Beatles are great too

Walrus, I have:

We're Only In It For The Money
Barrett
Just For Love, Shady Grove, Quicksilver

YSI is still not working for me.. If you have AIM I can get ya on there...

DeusExMachina 10-21-2005 03:09 PM

I'll upload Saucerful of Secrets and The Madcap Laughs.

JonG 10-21-2005 03:10 PM

I'm attempting to upload Barrett. :) Wish me luck.

I'm not permitted to use AIM, and I can't get Express to work (I don't think you can d/l off of it anyway) but if YSI starts working again, let me know

I would upload Saucerful of Secrets but it would take forever.

Barrett went through :)

There is no more progress bar on YSI :(

I never had a progress bar on YSI...

I'm currently uploading Saucerful of Secrets, and I'll get to The Madcap Laughs after. Assuming YSI doesn't die on me.

JonG 10-21-2005 03:29 PM

I did for about 2-3 days. I loved it :)

magicbus 10-21-2005 03:31 PM

Deus if you just want to do one, I can upload SFOS too.

Do you have The Madcap Laughs? I'm in the middle of uploading SFOS right now. But if you can upload TML, that'd be cool.

Edit: Apparently, YSI hates me. SFOS is taking forever to upload, and I need to run. When I get back (45 minutes to an hour) it'll be done, and then I can upload The Madcap Laughs. If anyone uploads them in the meantime, please post it in here so I don't upload unneccesarily.

magicbus 10-21-2005 04:00 PM

I actually do not have The Madcap Laughs, but here's this.

I just got Freak Out and Caravan's In the Land of Grey and Pink.

Hmph. The thread was 1 slot from being page 2. :-/

Yes! :D Such a great album. The first track is my favorite.

:)

So now, I have a Kramer Aluminum Neck bass that my dad just got. Can't wait to pick up bass. I already play guitar, so I'll be somewhat comfortable. Can't wait to start slappin'.

Aluminum neck? Well, that's odd.

I might be able to get my mom to give me $220 instead of paying that much for a class ring that I'll never wear, so I might get a new bass sooner than previously expected.

Walrus Gumboot 10-21-2005 04:53 PM

Thanks for all of the uploads, if y'all want anything:

Congrats on the bass and the Jazz band

So what's everyone doing for Halloween?

EDIT: I passed up on the class ring too, but I never got the guitar
