I want to do a cover of Darkthrones Transilvanian Hunger...but for some odd reason I can't get the riff to sound right. The open string drowns out the fretted notes to much...

opeth_oasis 03-01-2005 01:37 AM

its really hard to cover tool songs, cos the drumming parts are very difficult (our drummers not too good)

Trying to cover Danny Carey is near impossible unless you're very, very confident in your drumming ability. I struggle with some Travis Barker patterns still after three and a half years.

yes i agree he is very good, my cousin after 8 years of drumming still has difficulty with some of their songs

Both of them are such sick drummers. I have a video clip of a travis barker solo thats pretty sweet.

If i find it i'll post it

I know HCDR isn't everyone's favorite CoB album, but Jaska Raatikainen has some furious beats in a lot of the songs. Being a guitar player I don't usually pay a huge amount of attention to the drums, but a lot of his stuff on there really stood out to me.

(Actual drummers may disagree)

\m/Pete\m/ 03-01-2005 02:11 AM

i think one of the drumers that doesnt get a whole lot of talk is Raymond "The Machine" Herrera from Fear Factory. He is one of my favorite drummers mainly because he double bass is sooo tight.

oh and heres the vid

BoboTheRagingHobo 03-01-2005 02:16 AM

Jaska doesn't get any recognition because Janne and Alexi steal the spotlight from all the other members heh.

Especially Roope because he is an incredible guitarist, now that he is in the band

\m/Pete\m/ 03-01-2005 02:19 AM

personally im getting kind of sick of hearing about Alexi Laiho. I love his work, but every where i go i hear his name. I fear that he will start to become the next Malmsteem (ego wise)

Riva 03-01-2005 02:42 AM

I have never like Alexi. I'm probably the only one ever though. I think it may be tall poppy syndrome...

Riva 03-01-2005 02:44 AM

Oh and Chris, that cover was really good. The tone on the intro was a bit rough, but by the time you got to the second riff, things were really good. :thumb:

Thanks, and I can tell you that my actual (live) tone is pretty good. It just gets raped going through that piss comp mic.

ATM 03-01-2005 02:47 AM

Agreed. The cover is great. I wish I knew how to put together mp3s like this.

I use Audacity for recording/editing and a program called Mixcraft for laying the tracks down and mixing. Works pretty decent I guess.

BTW, Liv is looking prime tonight.

ATM 03-01-2005 02:49 AM

She is always looking prime.

I see. I have never used a mic, so I wouldn't know. :-)

Maybe one day I will buy one. I know Jason wants to set up a R&M Ventrillo thing, and I could post clips of me trying to play and sing Dead Eternity, or Highway Star.

I'd rather hear you play the solo in Highway Star :p

Riva 03-01-2005 02:55 AM

On guitar, piano or bass? Glover, Blackmore and Lord are

Paice is also quite good, and Gillian has the quintessential classic rock voice.

ATM 03-01-2005 02:58 AM

I've got a video of them playing it, and it's so dissapointing because Blackmore doesn't even play that amazing solo.

Riva 03-01-2005 02:58 AM

I shall post two of their instrumental jams. Gimme a sec.

Riva 03-01-2005 02:58 AM

God I love Deep Purple. Do you want a live version of Highway Star as well?

ArcLite 03-01-2005 02:59 AM

I would like seeing it. It's definitley my favorite song of theirs.

ATM 03-01-2005 03:01 AM

I bought a tape at FYE called Rock Legends for 5 bucks, and it's got live preformances from Deep Purple, Sabbath, the Who, Santana, Grateful Dead, Alice Cooper, Hendrix, and more on it.

Riva 03-01-2005 03:02 AM

Well, I gotta get going. I'll upload those songs later on. :)

ATM 03-01-2005 03:05 AM

I'm gonna go pass out, night guys.
