Dialated Peoples - Cool album, my favorite track from it is Worst Comes to Worst D/l that as well.
I thought we could start with "Old School" (KRS-One, Eric B. and Rakim, Grandmaster Flash) into "East Coast" (Beastie Boys, Biz Markie, Will Smith) and "West Coast" (NWA, Ice-T) And then there was The Chronic, which seperated G-Funk (Dre, Pac, Snoop Dogg) from East Coast Gangsta (Biggie Smalls, Nas, Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, DMX) I'm not too well-versed on new school, so you can fill me in there.
I like it. It's the second best one I've read this year under Frankenstein.
Why, god, why? One of the most unreadable books ever. |

Obviously. I typed that list up in like ten seconds. I didn't even remember to put Public Enemy.
I better see MC Hammer somewhere in that profile too
Well, when I talk about the Great Rap Depression (1989-1992, I reckon) he'll obviously be up there with Young MC and Vanilla Ice and their ilk. Hammer>Rap :p Well keep in mind I'm an angsty 19 year old with the minset of a two year old, so it works out about right. |
I also fear that I may spend too much time yapping about the 2Pac/Biggie feud, which is just about the biggest rivalry of the past quarter century.
EDIT: The Rap/Hip-Hop FG will certainly be longer than the Pop-Punk one  But Rap is a far vaster (is that a word?) genre |
If you may, please comment on the following (just a band denotes all their albums are on the network, album titles denote me inquiring about said album):
The Mars Volta Smashing Pumpkins The Dog And Everything (who?) Motion City Soundtrack "American Idiot" (I keep hearing good and bad... honestly, which is it) "Once" Any QOTSA besides "Lullabies..." "Getting Away With Murder" "The End of Heartache" "Point #1" "Deja Entendu" "The College Dropout" (I listened to this already, it was good, but the n-bomb still makes me uneasy) Glassjaw (Eh...) I had this entire list, but I forgot to copy/paste it, so it's extremely abridged. I'll be looking at Sputnik for reviews as well. Thanks for the help. Oh, and if anyone has any other suggestions for me, suggest away, and I'll look to see if they are on the network. ATM: please include Atmosphere in your FG (a) |
Anyway, 24 was pretty good.
I missed it :( What happened? I know it had something to do with the other President from the past seasons. |
The Mars Volta - I've commented on these guys already. If you can get past the voice, they're good
Smashing Pumpkins - Good up until Mellon Collie... "American Idiot" - horrible Queens of the Stone Age - Good College Dropout - You know how I feel about it
What happened? I know it had something to do with the other President from the past seasons.
President Logan found out that Jack disobeyed his order and sent the Secret Service to arrest him. Jack had found Marwan and was about to lead a CTU attack team in to get him, but one of Marwan's men saw the Secret Service and Marwan slipped out. President Logan then breaks down and admits he needs some help, so his chief advisor calls in former President Palmer in to guide Logan through the presidency. Also, one of Marwan's men's girlfriends turns him in (her boyfriend, not Marwan) and we're treated to a thrilling* subplot with Chloe, which in the end makes me die a little inside. * - excruciating |

The Mars Volta Smashing Pumpkins "American Idiot" (I keep hearing good and bad... honestly, which is it) "Once" "The End of Heartache" "Deja Entendu"
Edited for stuff I would recommend. This is of course biased my taste and if you dislike it I take no responsibility for it. /disclaimer |

I'm sure you and Ray are gonna put it off great though. Try and put some YSI tracks in the thing to; you could put in some very basic stuff and some underground. |
KSE - End of Heartache
I'm quite a fan of this album. A lot of people's main complaint is the lyrics, and that they're too "emo". I tend to disagree. While he sings of a lost love and heartache and whatnot, it's not done in a whiney fashion and therefor doesn't bother me a bit. The guitar playing is ace. Many heavy and thought out riffs that work great with the music. Highlights are the first four tracks and the title track, but the whole album is solid. Overall, I give it a highly recommended. |
This thread confuses old Strum. :'-(

And the lesson to be learned from tonight's 24: America needs a brother in charge :p
|
Oh, alright.
*****SPOILERS***** In a nutshell, here is what happened: So you know how Jack used force to find out where Marwan was going? Well, the new President found out, got pissed, and demanded that the Secret Service arrest Jack. Meanwhile, they're at the nightclub where Marwan is beginning to broadcast to the world what happened. Well, a guard sees one of the cops moving in to position to replace Jack since the SS showed up, and so their cover was blown. The police stormed into the nightclub, but they set a bomb off to close themselves off from the nightclub to the sewers (secret passage thing). So Marwan escaped. They did recover a videotape from one of the terrorists that they shot, but we don't know what it is yet. Well, one of the terrorist's girlfriends gets suspicious of where her boyfriend is, and she goes on his computer and finds all this encrypted and locked data, so she calls and gets put through to CTU. The President basically is told he screwed up by his advisor, and he threatens to step down, but his advisor says that three Presidents in two days would be devestating. The President asks what he's supposed to do. In comes Palmer (the black President from previous seasons). CTU sends Chloe to the house of the girlfriend/computer with two guards. Well, a terrorist comes in and kills the two guards, and Chloe and the girlfriend take the laptop and run like hell. They barricade themselves into a laundry room, and then escape through a window. They get to the CTU car, and the guy keeps firing at them, but the glass is bulletproof. So the guy gets in his truck and starts ramming them. CTU tells her the keycode to get to the weapons, and right when the guy is driving to ram them a third time, she assault rifles the hell out of him, and the show ends. So, Marwan is still out on the loose, the one chance they had at Marwan was foiled because of the President's idiot move, Chloe and the girlfriend are still out in the field, and chaos is still to ensue. Oh, and Palmer is going to be the acting President, basically. /very, very brief nutshell |
I summed it up even briefer than you did, AH.

Tomorrow I just have to present it, and then take my educ final, which will [hopefully] be easy. History is going to revolve around a lot of reading and reviewing lecture notes... but otherwise, I can't wait to get out of here. How long is your girlfriend going to be in Europe, and why does that make you nervous? Er, nevermind, that's a dumb question, she's going to be five hours away from you. Sorry. After your response, I should head to bed, since tomorrow is an early morning. |

On the upside, she probably cheated on you so at least she broke up with you rather than transmit whatever disease she got to you. Night. |
I'm back and jet lagged and my travel day was all hungover. I finally had a good schnapps that was from some local winery in Lustadt DE that didn't taste of smell like alcohol, thus being the easiest drink to get drunk off of ever.
Icelandic girls win. Tall blond blue eyes and slim. I diggit. IcelandAir loses. Dampfnudle wins. Best baked good ever. The worst beer I've ever had was at a resturant with it's own brewery. The Weissbier tasted like pork and it was gross. German men use too many hairstyling products. At least they have cool shoes. I don't want to go to school. |
:) looks like I was able to pull off a 24 on my first ACT. Luckily I have a few more chances to raise the score.

Eh...I'll be back later. I need to go and burn soil :(
yeah... I want to do that, northumbria uni and newcastle are crap anyway that's the only ones near enough not to move and It would be a little crap going to uni and not going away... I've had a good day, and don't want to waste it going in to that thread. cause it's likeley to see all n00bs talking about how incredible joey jordisson is, and how wel written and difficult the LP riffs are. everyone should post in my Arcturus thread ;) arcturus need it's own thread anyway, cause it's such a great band np: Porcupine tree - moonloop (improvisation) |
sorry for the doube post - but is anyone else restraining themselves from answering the "why doesn't anyone like nu-metal or metalcore?" thread with
"because it's shit"?
*cough* elitest view point *cough* Seriously, that would be a very childish remark and I am sure more of us are far more intelligent to post something that has more substance behind it explaining our likes/dislikes about the stuff. And people need to figure this out, metalcore is now becoming the new nu-metal in terms of people discarding bands they don't like into the genre because they are too mainstream. Nu-metal always had the argument of why put this band with this band in the same genre? Also it had the argument of that is where all the elitests shoved the bands they don't like into and label it a bad genre as a whole. Now metalcore has both of those same arguments yet again, what a cycle! Now with nu-metal, the fans defended it to the death, this is now happening with metalcore and such. So all people need to do is, if you like it, listen to it, if you don't, boo freakin' hoo don't be a dick about things to make your self look bigger then another person who has different tastes. Mainstream metal will always have this vicious cycle of mainstream versus "tr00" metal heads no matter what comes up and about. |
I agree; most of the hatred coming towards metalcore's way is because it's becoming so popular right now-and that isn't necessarily a BAD THING. I didn't care too much for nu-metal, but when I hear metalcore, it's a breath of fresh air to hear some American metalbands that actually have quite a bit of talent.
