okay, i whipped out mum's turntable last night and listened to dark side of the moon, and apart from money, there's absolutely no good songs on there... i don't mean to just say that to get attention, i acually gave the whole thing (both sides) a chance but it's too soft and spacey... and the instrumental bits in between most of the songs are just crap, they're not even tricky or anything, just crap. the only other pink floyd song i like is wish you were here

someone please explain why it's supposed to be the best **** album around...

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-23-2005 09:07 PM

You just dont have taste that's all...:p
Deus-I am joining the Wish You Were Here fanboy wagon. Before last week, I had WYWH and SYOCD 1-5, but thanks to Med, I got the rest of the album, and wow...It's great. There isn't a second of it I don't enjoy. :p
WYWH is my favourite. SOYCD is my favourite Floyd track. It's just a well crafted album.

It isnt the best, you just take hype too seriously.
they're not even tricky or anything, just crap
Yep, you gotta be a Steve Vai to make good music.

If you think like that, you're never gonna like Pink Floyd.

How ironic you like Money....

That happened to me too. When I first got DSOTM, I didn't know what was the great deal about the album. But then it grew on me. Now I see what's the hype is all about. You are just accostume to the straight forward rock songs.

What else are you into? You sound like you might either be a nu metal fanboy, or into Britney Spears. It takes a real musician to notice the talents that Pink Floyd has. Roger Waters is arguably one of the most adept lyricists of his time. Gilmour can put emotion into his guitar like no other, and Pink Floyd's over all genius is top notch. Now to say that DSotM is crap after one run, that's just utterly moronic. Come back in a week after listening to it 10 times and give us a real opinion.

slowhand 03-23-2005 09:14 PM

I know where he's coming from. I still remember the day I bought DSOTM. I bought it alongside Led Zeppelin (I) and Live Cream Vol. 2. After hearing Zeppelin and Cream first, I put on Floyd and I was all: "What's this?"

I didn't hear the album for about a month or so, then I started to listened to it again, and began to see the good things, and it began to grow on me. At first I couldn't understand the big thing about the instrumentals, then I got it, I found them so intriguing.

But hearing DSOTM just one time won't do. Of course, not everyone can be a Floyd fan.

While we're on the topic, Steve Vai is sweet at guitar, but he's not very good at writing music. So..

lunch998 03-23-2005 09:26 PM

Uh oh, someone has a different opinion then us.

I would respect the fact that he doesn't like Pink Floyd, but he gave no reason what so ever why it sucked. Calling it pure crap doens't really count. I have heard many people criticize Pink Floyd before, but I only get T.O'd when they don't give good reasons for disliking them.

Im not saying he is bad at guitar, in fact I love him. Im the Hell Outta Here and For the Love of God are killer songs. Im just using him as an analogy since the guy says PF's music is crap since it is easy.

It's not the fact that he has an opinion, it's the fact that his opinion sucks.

Right, I got ya. I don't know why I said that anyways; it played out better in my head.

After listening to Jugband Blues, I'd like to know exactly what the hell is wrong with Syd's lyrics.

pigonthewing82 03-23-2005 09:39 PM

You know I've really been getting into the song Careful With This Axe Eugene. What Waters does with his voice is just awsome. I guess that was his scream at the begining of Another Brick In The Wall Part Two.

magicbus 03-23-2005 09:41 PM

I love Careful With That Axe, Eugene. It just might be in my top 3 Floyd songs. The scream is so demonic, is gives the song a great feeling.

It's scarier on the Live at Pompeii.. when I saw him screaming, I didn't know what to do. It's really hard to scream low like that, he must've passed a lot of days without voice because of that.

Yeah I have seven or eight different versions of it, and each one sounds great.

magicbus 03-23-2005 09:52 PM

My favorite is the Ummagumma version. It just sounds so creepy. And on Pompeii, you see him doing it. I think the effortlessness Roger appears to have while screaming makes it less intense.
