Some people will tell you to get a EB JP7...

...but i ain't :p
I thought those were like 2 grand?

Yashnaheen 06-21-2006 01:04 AM
Btw, I want a 7 string around 1000-1500... anyone have any suggestions?
You could snag a JP7 for that off ebay, non piezo. LTD SC-607B is also nice if you want something more metal.

I just got a Jackson SL3 for $500 :naughty:
Had to add that...

Crapdragoon 06-21-2006 01:06 AM

You can get a decked out jp7 off ebay for 1500.

Gotta look hard though.

With that kinda dough though id look into a custom 7 or something liek that.

Or an ibanez k7... they are sweet.

Nice on the Jackson+++

A JP7 on Ebay probably would run in that price range...

How much difference does a Piezo make anyways?

The Black Fist 06-21-2006 01:08 AM
btw, what are you doing for recording with the pod, hooking up a mixer to it or something and micing the drums? im interested in recording with my band with the pod, after i get mine fixed.
We're recording track-by-track. They already have the drum tracks from a previous attempt at a demo, which I'm going to remix and make not suck and then we're piling PodXT tracks on it. The rest of my band is absolutely useless when it comes to production, to the point where they have virtually no idea how to set up a tone- So I get to do all the knob-fiddling and they just do all the playing. I'm hoping these guys are solid enough players that they'll be able to play their 8 gazillion guitar solos cleanly.

Crapdragoon 06-21-2006 01:08 AM

Basicly if you like to play clean alot... or like really love acousitc tone... its for you, of not then fo get it nigga

I'm_Still_Mikee 06-21-2006 01:08 AM

if im thinking correctly, a Piezo hooks up to teh PA.

so it would be a very colorless tone. it would be like you playing unplugged amplified.

Meatplow 06-21-2006 01:09 AM
Meatplow.... are you an STP fan?

I love that song... and that band!
Yep. It's great stuff indeed, had a Purple phase a while back where i did nothing but listen to that album constantly. Core is really good too, been listening to that on and off. Solid post grunge if thats how you would define them. :smoke:

Amp'd 06-21-2006 01:09 AM

rugged drums ftl

Crapdragoon 06-21-2006 01:09 AM

So dave... every song is like hanger 18?

To hell with genres.

Hell just call them pre millenia rock

But yeah i went through a purple phase too. Then a no.4 phase, then a core phase.

I listen to them once in a while now, ive been a fan though since i was a little tot.

All petrucci's live 'acoustic' bits are done with it. The JPs also allow you to mix magnetic and piezo pickups. They just have such a wide and flat frequency range, it sounds far more acoustic.

Edit, they can to through a PA if you want. Go to your clean amp if you have a clean amp, etc.

haha cool. yer thats how my band is. they just can play the instruments, not really sure about how they are made or anything, what my pedals or anything do haha. dont understand different speakers and such.

my drummers bass is active/passive, he had no clue. he always played in passive. i tried taking the knob off his bass to see how they looked on my LP cause i was thinking of getting similar knobs, i thoguht i broke the pot, but then remembered active passive push/pull knobs. took the back plate off, changed battery. and voila.

and also about the tracking thing, i wish i could do that. my band cant play their parts seperately. haha.i had to record the bass part over for this one song.

Crapdragoon 06-21-2006 01:12 AM

My band is hella old school

we got a mic about 20 feet from the amps and drums connected to a cassette recorder.

yer im pretty sure JPs are in the PA though.

the one video of him showing off his rig he said something like it would have to be hooked up to the PA to show the piezo. or somethin.

The Black Fist 06-21-2006 01:13 AM
So dave... every song is like hanger 18?
pretty much

imagine if Iron Maiden's drummer learned how to play blastbeats and death drum rolls, Bruce Dickinson got replaced with Phil Anselmo, and they all turned into as big of an asshole as Dave Mustaine. That's basically what my band sounds like.

I'm sorry.

So I've been playing this Half-life mod called vampire slayer. When you shoot someone on your team in the head and they commit suicide the head pops off and goes flying, so a couple of friends and I were going for distance.

And to the last two posts, I used my condenser hooked up to an old Tascam digital tape recorder for my mic. I use it to record when I jam with people too.

Amp'd 06-21-2006 01:17 AM

The only recordings of my band are crap live ones done on a cam corder. But next holidays we will do a 2 week bender and record our demo.

Crapdragoon 06-21-2006 01:19 AM

haha me! yup i still got an old tascam 2 track recorder... 10 years old and still holding strong

TBF what is your old name?

And Me! you rock dude, I actually got myPODxt to sound good through my C30, atleast good enough, since you taught me how to bypass the preamp. You pretty much saved me a bunch of money, because I was thinking of buying **** and the quality would have been like close to the same.

I used to play vampire slayer back in the day, probably 4 or 5 years ago. Best half-life mod ever.

They're well-built. Good stuff. I want to run two mics in stereo, one in front of my amp, but one of mine requires phantom power and the other doesn't and the channels don't have independent controls for that.

No problem abu (and it was rokrstyl)

Actually The Specialists is pretty schwingin too skyler

Dreaming Neon Black 06-21-2006 01:22 AM

Wish I could record n shizz with my band.

XD THe only thing we've done is play the Talent Show last year in school. Im only 14 though and goin into the 9th grade, and the other guys are 1 year younger and goin in 8th. We were doin pretty good, but I left 'em. I figured I'd rather be in a band with more talent, because, not trying to "flare" or show off or onthing, but I was way ahead of the younger guys.

Now Im in a band with Wesley (Senior) and plays Bass, Me 9th (lead guitar), Brandon in 11th (Rhythm guitar), Cash (Yes, thats his name, and hes a whiteboy, is vocalist) hes a senior as well.. and we got some guy I've never met before as a drummer, we're auditioning him. He lives a town away.

Crapdragoon 06-21-2006 01:28 AM

Right now with my current setup, i got a preety sweet thrash metal sound.

stfu roy. Yeah, I know about the lovin' you gave Voodooramen.

I'm_Still_Mikee 06-21-2006 01:30 AM

right now i have a really good tom petty tone.

im really looking into getting a head with like 3 channels though, although i love my jcm 900, its not as versatile as i'd like.

like. i can get a great rhythem tone, but then for solos i cant get anything i'm satisfied with, being one channel, single eq. or i can get a great solo tone, and a sucky rhythem tone. and then the lacking of a clean channel.

Amp'd 06-21-2006 01:30 AM

Mind Strom is the only good satch song imo
