Ruiner is my all time favorite song from TDS. At first it was my least favorite, but it grew on me so much and now it's my favorite. I think I've talked about why quite extensively further back in this thread.
And March of the Pigs does indeed seem to have some kind of reference point dealing with Animal Farm. It definately uses some of the same imagery to deliver a similar message. I'm a VERY serious NIN fan and I love Closer. I don't know where (not sure who said it) got the idea that most serious NIN fans hate that song. Sure, it's overplayed but the end build up is insanely good. It showcases some of the best electronic work from Reznor yet. There are so many different layers and elements that come together there. Same goes for most of NIN songs, though. |
I like March Of The Pigs alot also.
But my favorite song off of TDS for a long time was The Becoming. |
"Downward Spiral builds to a certain degree of madness and then changes"
[In reference to Big Man With a Gun] That's an interesting quote, because I had never read it before, but it's exactly what I've always talked about in my view of the concept of the album. I think there are two major shifts in the album...one after Closer and one after Big Man With A Gun. |
I love Closer, and I also love the lyrics. At first it seems like a mindless lust song, but then I realized it's actually more like a cynical dark love song. I love it.
|
I like Closer as well. I always thought it was actually one of those fan favorites. It's one of those songs that get an extremely loud reaction every time it's played at a show.
|
An update on my feelings of the new NIN record. I'm coming around to really like it. It appeals to me quite a bit now. After a few sessions and a lot of pot smoke later, I find myself having listened to it all weekend and it sure as hell has grown on me. I like 6 of the songs quite a bit now, and the others are still growing on me. I'm coming around to see what Trent was trying to do here. Still not sure if he made it but it does look like he came close.
|
See? I knew I wasn't the only one that loved Closer

Closer in 5.1 > God.
Closer in 5.1 > God.
 Man, I have to get the re-released version of that album. But I can hardly listen to anything with the surround sound :( Because its in the living room and my mom freaks out when I listen to music out there... |
It's spectacular in 5.1, cant wair for more of them to come out.
So "Only" is gonna be the next single, thoughts? I think its a spectacular song, but I dunno, it seems an odd choice. |

It is definately worth the money, whether you get the Doubledisc or the Dualdisc. It's the same situation for me with the surround sound, actually, but my parents are gone a lot so I use it frequently. In fact, it's about midnight here and I'm blasting music on the surround sound because my parents are gone for the night. :thumb: |
Which album has March of the Pigs on it? I like NIN but I don't have any albums. :upset:

Nice :thumb: And I will be getting it. Probably the Surround sound one though, because I heard from somewhere that the one with extra unreleased songs on it wasn't that great.
Which album has March of the Pigs on it? I like NIN but I don't have any albums. :upset:
The Downward Spiral, if you contact me on aim, I can give you an album. (aim sn is in my public profile) |
The Downwards Spiral.
If my parents were out for the night I'd be partyin on down..not on the computer. probably still be listening to NIN though. |
Nah, man, I keep it clean. Besides, I'm only on the computer every once in awhile, doing other things in between.

Because thats where all my music is :p And the fact that I don't really have a life because all my friends are into sports and stuff, so they're always out. But if I'm not on the comp, then I'm reading or walking to places. |
True.I can't wait for With Teeth to come out in New Zealand.Should come out about a week after everywhere else...so I'm not looking in this thread for a week from May 5.I saw ...And All That Could've Been in a record store the other day for $44 bucks NZ should I have bought it?Does it come with Still aswell?Or is it only the DVD?

44$?!?! Mine was only about 25 bucks (the DVD).
Same. Excellent song. I believe I saw a Still-esque live studio version of it on an NIN site at one, and it was awesome.
Yeah, I love those performances on nin.com, especially Something I Can Never Have. |
THe DVD doesn't come with Still. Still is no longer in print, you have to get it off Ebay, although Trent says he'd like to get it back in production.
|
haha I'm not really into my sports either.I play rugby occasionally but besides that it's all about the music. As long as you keep working out and all that you don't really need to play sport seriously. My friends have come to respect me for my guitar playing mostly. And my pimpage.

I believe that AATCHB came out in three versions. The live DVD, the live CD, and the limited edition, now out of print live CD which included Still as a bonus disc. |
Same. Excellent song.

Actually its still availiable. No pun inteneded. |
Actually its still availiable. No pun inteneded.
It's available on amazon.com as "used", meaning a few people put it up for sale before it "officially" went out of print. But I remember them being pretty expensive, and you could find cheaper on eBay. |
I have TDS, TF, Wt and Still... what next? Could you list which stuff i should get next...I don't know wether to get FDTS, Broken or PHM (i think thats all the albums/important releases trent has done)
|

Its availiable again. I'd go with Broken, but it totally depends what youre into. |

I can send you all the NIN I have that you don't if you want, unless you like having CDs. I like having CDs and everything, I'm just broke, so I can't get all the stuff I want. |

I think most NIN fans would say Broken next, but I definately like PHM over it by a mile. FDTS is worth checking out, although it's not exactly something a person who is not a heavy NIN fan should have, I don't think. So basically my advice is to get PHM. |
If you get broken get fixed to go with it, that ones ****ed, but its only like 8$.
|
PHM is an interesting CD, and its got some spectacular songs.
|
Broken is more metal and guitars...very angry, very good EP
PHM is awesome, but maybe more 80's electronica than you're used to, still one of Trent's best though Fixed is ****ed up, and only worth getting if you find it under $10. Trippy remixes of songs off Broken. I agree with Kage on FDTS. It's one of the better remix halos, but not exactly aimed at the casual fan. Final Thoughts: Get PHM...it has some of the best NIN songs on it. HLAH, Down in it, Sin, Terrible Lie, Kinda I Want To, etc. |
Anyone pick up THTF today?
|
I can send you all the NIN I have that you don't if you want, unless you like having CDs.
I like having CDs and everything, I'm just broke, so I can't get all the stuff I want.
yeah thanks again for still yesterday :) I downlaod most music, i only purcahse the CD if it's a classica and i want it in my collection (doesn't have a job) yeah I think i'll check out broken and PHM, I should be able to torrent them It was just that i could only find still as part of a halo 1-17 thing... and it was 1gb and i already have TF and TDS. Thanks guys :) |
I just got the leak of With Teeth about 2 hours ago. It ****ing owns. I will be buying this.
|
I had no idea that this thread existed
<3 NIN |
<3 NIN
We feel the same way :) Anyone know what that new file is on the nin website? Says for macintosh users only... |
Um I heard it was some recording of a garage band doing a cover of one of their songs. I really don't know how accurate that is, seeing as the person who told me doesn't have a mac. But it could be true.
P.S - I'm totally unbanned. ;)
Awesome :thumb: Have you learned your lesson about posting threads about Antihereo's horse cock or whatever? |
