Rasta Rocker 01-14-2005 05:58 PM

Apocalyptic Raids 01-14-2005 07:04 PM
Eh, it was his second post...maybe he'll learn to explain himself next time.

this thread is going nowhere
Well then give us something to talk about.

opeth_oasis 01-14-2005 10:40 PM

lol me and some mates have made a RATM clan, the Renegades Of Funk, we're the biggest rage fans.

Rasta Rocker 01-14-2005 10:42 PM

I'd be down for something like that, but I'm a moderate leaning to the conservative side

Darkness 01-14-2005 10:49 PM

Hmm that'd be kinda cool.

opeth_oasis 01-14-2005 11:52 PM

yeah its pretty good, if you guys were local u cud join:thumb:

Bartender 01-15-2005 12:10 AM
Well, Tom Morello and Adam Jones were in a band together, and Morello introduced Adam Jones and Danny Carey, so they've got that link...plus Maynard Keenan appears on Know Your Enemy, and they share the same left of field, authority challenging political beliefs, so yeah...in terms of attitude they're not only similar, but friends as well. :)
There's also that Revolution song, or has that been thrown out and shot down already in this thread? I haven't been reading it for a while.

I always thought it would be good to get a really conservative/Republican band playing the same style of politically infused music as RATM, or some punk band, like Crass or Conflict. Just for a cheap laugh on my part, more than anything else.

Rasta Rocker 01-15-2005 12:28 AM

What could a right wing band sing about?

Bass_ment 01-15-2005 07:20 AM

^^^^
pro-life, no gay marriage, no immigrants, superiority by social class, free trade, "supporting our troops"

I'm sure they could find something to sing about.

ok in an effort to move this thread forward everyone please post their favourite RATM lyrics and explain why you like them:
"No Shelter"

The main attraction - distraction
got ya number than number than numb
Empty ya pockets son; they got you thinkin that
What ya need is what they sellin
Make you think that buyin is rebellin
From the theaters to malls on every shore
Tha thin line between entertainment and war
The frontline is everywhere, there be no shelter here
Speilberg the nightmare works so push it far
Amistad was a whip, the truth was feathered and tarred
Memory erased, burned and scarred
Trade in ya history for a VCR

Cinema, simulated life, ill drama
Fourth Reich culture - Americana
Chained to the dream they got ya searchin for
Tha thin line between entertainment and war

There be no shelter here
Tha frontline is everywhere

Hospitals not profit full
Yet market bulls got pockets full
To advertise some hip disguise
View tha world from American eyes
Tha poor adore keep fiendin for more
Tha thin line between entertainment and war
They fix the need, develop the taste
Buy their products or get laid to waste
Coca-Cola is back in the veins of Saigon
And Rambo too, he got a dope pair of Nikes on
And Godzilla pure mutha****in filler
To keep ya eyes off the real killer

Cinema, simulated life, ill drama
Fourth Reich culture - Americana
Chained to the dream they got ya searchin for
Tha thin line between entertainment and war

American eyes, American eyes....
View the world from American eyes
Bury the past, rob us blind
And leave nothin behind

Just stare
Relive the nightmare.
No Shelter, a song about the effects of propoganda, mass media, and advertisement on American culture. Zach shows his distaste for how war has been treated as a form of entertainment through high grossing movies and ratings fest News programs. The line about "the poor keep fiending for more" is about the primitive patriotism that seems to be invoked in the american lower class, especially those that make up the majority of the armed forces, every time a major military assault is taken by the government. Again this is my interpretation.
The imagery, rhymes, rythm, and forceful chanting of American eyes, makes this pure poetry to me, and one of my favourite lyrics from Rage.

Please post yours.

Battle of Mexico City was the other one I was talkin' about, as it is my favorite

Morello_Monk 01-16-2005 02:35 PM

yeah. Better than any of the others. But... The new one has some ultra cool extras.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-16-2005 04:37 PM

I have a couple RATM lyrics that I appreciate. Here's a few
The teacher stands in front of the class. The lesson plan he can't recall. The students eyes don't percieve the lies mounted on every ****ing wall
-Take the Power Back
If Ignorance is bliss, Then would someone knock the smile off my face
-Settle for Nothing. That entire song has great lyrics, but that line is the one that stands out in my mind.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-17-2005 04:39 PM

Post 500 :D
