I'm happy with my current status, so you guys'll have to make do without me.

I think I'm addicted to Manowar (the band, not the jellyfish).
mmmmm jelly......

Paranoiddd - Punch your boss. They'll tell you not to come back tomorrow either. That means you can keep saving the sick excuse.

Paranoidd 08-19-2004 08:50 AM

I should tell him my ulcer is bothering me and if he doesn't let me go home, I'll throw up on his shoe. That might work.

I just put on an acid bath CD so I should last at least another hour.

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:04 AM

I think I've found the only genres I cannot get into at all.
Grindcore
Hardcore
(Metalcore is ok though)
Country
Oldies

Anyone else have these same ones? Different ones maybe?

Paranoidd 08-19-2004 10:06 AM

Did you try listening to hatebreed?

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:09 AM

I can't stand hatebreed. It's the vocals. I don't mind growling or screaming so long as I know the singer can sing too (Killswitch Engage) or if the growler is simply amazing at it (Lord Worm). I'll try some more if you have suggestions though.

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:11 AM

I haven't yet found a genre I haven't liked at least something in, I think.

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:11 AM

Country?

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:13 AM

Johnny Cash.

Paranoidd 08-19-2004 10:13 AM

Even some country aint bad. I just don't like the bitchy "mywifeleftmemydogdiedmypickuptruckbrokedown." songs.

I'm with Bartender. I like something about everything.

Paranoidd 08-19-2004 10:14 AM

Hmmm fast fingers I'm not too much into hardcore, the only band I really know is Hatebreed :/

Uhhh theres this band Terror that toured with hatebreed, but if you don't like hatebreed you won't like terror, they sound similar.

So you just aren't really into growling at all?

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:15 AM

Art pop. You don't seem like someone who would enjoy it at all. Repetitive and annoying. I still like it though.

Or Polyphonic Spree, whatever the hel they are. I know I hate them. Anyone else?

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:16 AM
Yeah, though I'm not sure yet. Try me with some of the less common genres, I'll see if I like anything from them.

Maybe "jungle". I don't even know what it is, to be honest.

Paranoidd 08-19-2004 10:16 AM

Have you ever heard Carcass?

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:17 AM

I haven't heard any Polyphonic Spree. What do you mean by art pop? (examples if possible)

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:17 AM

I think it's african drums and basically all around wierd instruments playing world music/hip hop/tribal stuff.

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:18 AM

Little indie bands that use lots of synth but not in a good way. It's like rap beats without the bass and nothing but cheesy melodies on top.

Paranoidd 08-19-2004 10:20 AM

Haha.

Jungle eh? Hrmmm I haven't been in that scene in a little while. I can't even think of tunes to give you...it's really quick beats, big basslines...all electronic (though I've seen drummers do it live). Alot of times theres an MC doing freestyling over it...I don't know if it would be your thing.

Theres "jungle" and "drum n bass", they are similar but different.

Theres alot of crap out there but I can usually find something good from every genre.

Is that like Maroon 5?

Because I want to slowly murder each member of that band.

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:23 AM

No. Maroon 5 has guitars and bass. I'm talking Nelly - the rap + happy indie vocals

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:26 AM

Yeah, I know drum'n'bass. A couple of metal bands I like (namely Skindred and The Meads of Asphodel) use elements of it in their music, and it's pretty good. I don't think I could stand it on it's own though.

Don't think I've ever heard anything like that.

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:26 AM

Was that directed at me?

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:27 AM

I think me and no I haven't. Should I?
I'll try to find some art pop for you Bartender.

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:30 AM

You should probably check out Carcass, yeah. They've been through various stages of music, you're likely to like something - they started as grind (one of the originators), then went to death metal, then melodic death, then pretty much heavy metal before splitting.

And, thanks.

EDIT: all unclean vocals, by the way, though they became less so over the years.

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:34 AM

Cool, I'll look into them. Thanks for the vox warning.

Right now though, I'm downloading a crapload of Moby.

superpeer 08-19-2004 10:35 AM

Me too, I like something from every genre.

Edit: /late

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:40 AM

ALERT: Topic change (all I seem to be good for)
New band - Stabbing Westward. You may or may not have heard them. They remind me of a poppy NiN. Pretty good band overall but maybe too formulaic for most die hards and too mellow for metalheads. Worth looking into.

halfdeadhippo 08-19-2004 10:41 AM

My playlist right now:

Cardiak Academy - Clearer Vision
Cryptopsy - Slit Your Guts
Dream Theater - Space-Dye Vest
Frank Zappa - Stink-Foot
James Brown - Play that Funky Music
Jason Becker - Perpetual Burn
Jurassic 5 - What's Golden
Misfits - Last Caress
Nine Inch Nails - Sin
Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger
Rascal Flatts - Prayin' for Daylight (it's a recommendation from a friend, but I haven't heard it yet)
Symphony X - Fallen
The Kingsmen - Louie Louie
The Pink Panther Theme
The Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the U.K.
The Zelda Theme (played on guitar)
Yes - Roundabout

I think it's safe to say that I like a little bit of everything too.

superpeer 08-19-2004 10:41 AM

I've heard Stabbing Westward, didn't like it a lot.

Bartender 08-19-2004 10:42 AM

A friend of mine went through a phase of liking Stabbing Westward a few months back, but the songs he showed me I wasn't too keen on. I like NIN though. Recommendations please?

halfdeadhippo 08-19-2004 10:43 AM

I've heard the name, Stabbing Westward, but I've never actually heard any songs. Do you have any recommendations?

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:44 AM

Save Yourself, Haunting Me, The Thing I Hate, What do I Have to do

In order of recommendation.

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:46 AM

Basically when I want to sample a new band, I download all I can by them so I can get a real feel for their overall sound. When you just get one or two songs, especially singles, you run into problems when you buy the album. What a blessing a cable connection has been.

rocknrollstar5 08-19-2004 10:47 AM

good chioce with oasis and the sex pistols.

They both rock. well the pistols dont anymore but they're still bloody good

Yeah, but I'm on 56K. And thanks, I'll make a note of those tracks; not enough time to download them now, as I'm going to my dads soon.

superpeer 08-19-2004 10:49 AM

I've never been keen on NIN or industrial in general.

I do like Rammstein though.

rocknrollstar5 08-19-2004 10:51 AM

Does anyone actually like stabbing westward.
They're ****e

Dancin' Man 08-19-2004 10:51 AM

Rammstein is the ultimate driving music.

Obviously I do otherwise I wouldn't have said I did. C'mon man, I like this thread and want it to stick around. Don't spam it up.

Why don't you let other people form their own opinions?

rocknrollstar5 08-19-2004 10:55 AM

sorry guys
