A spoken word intro leads into some acoustic guitar, and a kinda gimmicky vocal. The music overall sounds like it's trying to be like a soundtrack to a 70s cowboy movie.

Later, some more obscure instruments gets thrown into the mix (it sounds like a bassoon is used, and possible a theremin). There's a recurring backing vocal, probably a sample from a b-movie. In any case, it's a laugh that's meant to be threatening. It's actually just annoying.

I don't actually hear any trip-hop in this song at all.

The song tends to stutter and change tact a lot. It doesn't really serve any purpose except to make the song seem intelligent, progressive, whatever. The lyrics also throw out long words that aren't lyrical at all.

The Twilight Singers - Fat City (Slight Return)

Starts off very interestingly, good beat. Singing kicks in promptly, easy to listen to and the lyrics sound interesting. More of a driving rhythm now, which I like.

Then some distorted guitar kicks in, which builds it up even more. I really like the structure of this song.

Goes back down to the more toned down part, which is really good I have to say. I can see this being a really good walking/driving song. I'm liking the vocals more and more, they've got feeling without being overbearing or anything.

Then a female or very high male voice comes in for a little bit of backing vocals, which is always good. The song is getting ever so slightly trance-like, it's the kind of thing you could really get into whilst you're listening to it, and I probably will next time when I'm not having to type about it.

It finishes suddenly, but not in a bad way.

Final Rating: 8.5/10, highly enjoyed that and will check out this band more.

I like the intro, it's "enchanting".


The piano is simple yet nice.

The vocals are a bit, wimpy, but they're managable. At least they aren't the "emoish vocals".

I like the taste of the violin.

I like this chorus I guess you'd call it it. The thing played in the beginning.

I don't like this weird synth effect (synth vocals) it seems, though, that's playing with the main part on the third time, I think.

A wimpy ending.


Overall, I liked the subtle taste of different instruments, such as the violins, and flute, and guitar.

I'll say it's a 6.5/10

Begins with very skippy percussion, and simple bass. John's vocals come in after a while, and he ain't exactly the best singer I've ever heard. His voice has a nice resonance at times, sounded fairly grungym but overall, it ain't hard to see why Anthony Keidis is still employed.

The guitars are kinda airy, and they don't take a prominent role for most of the song, which is surprising, seeing that Frusciante is seen as one of the best in the world at his craft.

The song is quite nice overall, and has a really good melody. The only problem is, it drags on for a little too long. The rhythm section remains constant for the whole song, which is annoying but understandable. John mixes up the guitar enough to keep things interesting - he mixes up his tone more than many guitarists would, which is quite a skill. His voice gets better as the song goes on, too.

[B]7/10[/B]. Not bad, but not quite good enough for me to make it a priority to seek out more.

I've heard Forever Changes but strangley enough I don't remember this song at all. So I'll just continue blabbling and making irrelevant comments. Bravo!

Starts on some very mellow acoustic guitar and then goes into some mexican style tune. The singing of this era is of course always wonderful, so far I'm really liking the vibe. The dynamics are quite strong and catchy.

Ha, just before two minutes there's an enjoyable horn solo. Sometimes they sound like they are a string accompiant, but it's hard to tell. The song ends with more acoustic guitar and something else I don't remember. Bravo! for short catchy songs!

I'm a n00b to this so-called psych(I've only heard some OTC) so just bear with me.

So, a piano that sounds like from the late 1800's cheerfully starts this one off, as the flow changes a bit. The singer looks like he just came out of the 60's or 70's(I think he was OTC's vocals??), which isn't bad, the "classic" feel he gives actually amuses me.

If there's ont thing I notice a lot about this song, it has loads of tempo changes. About every 10-30 seconds or so it's like a different song is overlapped over it. Cool. Very cool. One part has a very blissful and trippy feeling, which the jangly guitars and the piano are responsible for.

So the whole song goes on like that, thriving with change and happy happy feeling tunes. I guess this was kind of an abstract listen for me. I could not pinpoint a part of the song that struck me, but these parts are blended well together that I like the song as a whole. I just have to get used to this kind of music first. Overall though, it's very good.

Imediately into the music with vocals and funky beat. Kinda carries on and they have a brand new dance, wow. Small drum breakdown. Not much happening in terms of dynamics. This is pretty boring really.

Vocals are improving, seems like they're getting into it a bit more now. Still it's nothing great. ****, i'm half way....not much has changed. I can imagine this being pretty good live but it's not my thing to just sit down and listen.

I have absolutely no clue as to who this artist/s is/are or what he/she/they play. Somehow that asterisk had struck my curiosity.

For some odd reason I thought this song is electronica, maybe because the name Adem sounds trance-like. So I notice a shaking tambourine and a monotonous guitar note being repeated for the first few seconds. The lead immediately enters with soft plucking that almost gives it a snowy Christmas feeling.

The guy's voice isn't amazing, but fits in the category of one of those solo songwriters' signature quite-charismatic quality. I especially like the way he sings the line "..filling with envy, [ooooooohh] who will you turn to now?" There's a kind of wistful mood there that makes me reminisce stuff.

The whole of the song doesn't feature much change in the tempo, this is pretty much straightforwardly relaxing folk-ish alternative guitars with the soft pulsating percs. That's not to say that this is boring though. I actually like the simplicity, and how it the structure doesn't complicate things. It's a good good song.

An Empty You - Candyaudioline

Sounds like death in the beginning as its a bunch of distorted noises that sound like someone screaming BLAH! Then it gets a little better in the verse when its clean, simple drum beat...simple guitar...simple singing. I cant really make out any of her words but its pretty soothing. Seems like a nice relaxing song. Then we get to the chorus which sounds like the beginning crap....BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. The verses's are decent and the singing has grown on me in the last minute you could just chill out to this song. Then I think theres a part thats suposed to be a solo but I cant really tell...cause its really messy. Its a decent song may be better if it had better recording quality.

3/10 The only good parts are the verses's.

Bit late like...but here goes

Counting Crows.
Starts with a coventional bass line and vocals with drums. Strings in what i take is the bridge...or maybe this the chorus. It's back to the verse. The vocals are typically American but they're not bad. The best thing about it is the lead guitar breaks. I quite like the quieter part with the jazzy style piano, kinda reminds me of pink floyd in a way. And it changes, organ being the main instrument here. Feels rather unproduced but it's good.
Quiet again now, then back to the verse. Chorus. Dynamics are good. It's just carrying on in the same way. Outro is good with the 2 chord changing and soloing. It fades out.
All in all it was pretty good, and better than any other counting crows song i've heard. 7/10.

The songs starts off with a soft acoustic line. Very mellow. The singer comes in; very nice voice. The guitar continues with Sufjan singing along with it.

This feels like a bridge (it might not be). Some slow guitar work followed by more singing. The way he sings makes it feel really personal (if that makes any sense).

The song ends with a few 'ahhs' and 'ohhs'

Very quiet, mellow song. Not particularly my bag, but it was still good.

I'm gonna be honest with you and say that this is the first Porcupine Tree song I'll be listening to. I've heard a lot of good things about them so this might be the right time to check them out.

I can hear a soft hollow-sounding strumming in the first few seconds before the vocalist comes in. The guy's soft voice isn't that terribly unique; I swear I've heard his before in a brit rock song..

Everything's pretty much quiet with bluesy high pitched riffs(by keyboards??) complementing the chords. It livens up a bit around 1:20, though that's not saying a LOT, the drums, almost machine-like, don't sound very organic as well(but that's ok). The atmosphere is very reminiscent of classic rock; 2 minutes into the song the guitarist dishes out an 80's hair metal-ish solo. It adds a splash of color to the otherwise lonely-man mood. Then as it approaches the 4-minute mark, the song abruptly stops.

I kinda like it, maybe if I can appreciate the classics more I'd love this.

Troopy's Blues

There is a synth noise fading in and out, and some children playing with a bassline and drums only for a few seconds. Now a clean lead guitar comes in.

The guitar lick is pretty funky (hence the funk pop label). The vocals stylings are pretty nicely dones. They are funky. Man, that guitar lick is nasty.

The chorus is pretty nice, sounds like background vocals come in singing "gonna miss that kid". In this verse there is a sample of a kid talking, but I can't make out what exactly he is saying. It seems to fit with the song pretty well though.

Song calms down a bit at the 2:15 mark, and there is a short guitar solo. Now the vocals mimic the guitar as he goes to scat singing. Not bad, this song is awfully happy at this point.

Another round of "gonna miss that kid" lines come in, and the guitar with the wah wah effect is playing. I love that guitar lick. Yeah, so it ends about like I expected with a guitar riff and then the music stops and you can hear the kids again.

A pretty good song.

Hmmm, you're probably right actually. I just realized that the file I have specifically says '(acoustic)' so the other version might be somewhat different.

I've heard this song before, but I haven't actually sat down to listen to it.

It starts off with a synth (?) and a then a drum beat enters. I love this freaking beat right here. A voice comes in along with a quiet piano. I can't really make out the lyrics for the chorus.

Verse comes in with Moby singing but the beat persists. There's some more piano.

"This is goodbye." I love it.

The chorus comes back along with the piano. The next verse, the synth goes away and I'm left with just the beat. There's a bridge with some variations on the piano.

Very interesting voice effects on this verse. The choruse comes back, then the beat stops and theres only synth and piano until the song ends.
