i was actually considering that, but i wansn't going after a 'burst' per se. i was going after this http://www.liquid-fire.co.uk/musegear/musegear/chromemanson01.jpg. but seeing as it's a strat and has a pickguard, i decided to wing it.
that looks like a metal covering???/body and they just discolored it with a blowtorch er sumthin

purple_hazer 02-14-2007 10:13 PM

howd you do the theramin?

moghes69 02-14-2007 10:27 PM

i used a layout for the atari punk console which is pretty much a square wave generator controlled by two pots used as variable resistors. so i took that and wired in two Light dependant resistors that could be switched on instead of using a pot. the closer your hand gets to the LDRs the less light hits them which changes their resistance.

It's a silvery chrome paint and airbrushed colour to look like oil and some rivets stuck in it.

Trust me, I met the guy who made it, his shop (Mansons) is but 20minutes from me.

Haha, i live like 10mins away!!

Its a bloody great guitar shop, but WAYY to overpriced

And yeah, Matt Bellamy's guitar is just spray painted in chrome basically. Then the guy found a box of rivets from a ww2 spitfire. The burn effect was just purple paint.

I think there was a whole artical about that guitar. Il look it up for you...

EDIT: http://musegear.fobbedoff.net/ and http://musegear.fobbedoff.net/ Which has all of his manson guitars.
That's actually not a strat body (unless you somehow re-shaped it). Looks more like a Jaguar body. I don't even know if it's from a Fender though, because I can't find a fender with that style body and 3 p/ups.

I like the pickguard y'all made for it though. Pretty sweet and old-school.
it WAS a stratbody.

Sir_Robert 02-19-2007 12:37 AM

just thought id throw this in here, it was the first guitar related thing i ever painted and one of the first mods i ever did (besides the slant hum that you can kinda see) i was goin for kindof a truckster type feel... just on a strat

Chilifanthatsme 02-19-2007 08:21 AM

I think you should show pictures of the rest of the guitar, the paint job looks interesting.

hellonearth07 02-19-2007 08:28 AM

Yeah, show the rest of the guit-box so we can see the paint in whole, along with the slant pup

CCR90 02-19-2007 11:14 AM

need full pics.

slanted hums ftw.

Sir_Robert 02-19-2007 07:35 PM

k heres some more of it. i would get more new ones for you but i no longer own it. sold it to a friend of mine for 250. i bought it for 80. so i think i did ok with that. i guess i could always ask him to bring it to school sometime though.

MdL 02-22-2007 07:01 PM

I was thinking of starting a direct copy of Tom Morellos guitar. Down to the detail... Will probably start around summer time.

Billie'sBouncer 02-27-2007 03:19 PM

Some slow progress Ive changed the shape a tiny bit, done walnut inlay dots, tuner holes, wound a pickup, bolted neck on, made pickup cover and knobs. More to come...

Son of Magni 02-28-2007 08:28 AM

you making them knobs on a lathe? My mini lathe is arriving UPS tomorrow :)

And what's the thing that looks like a funky ladder for mice?

flea_slap_god 02-28-2007 10:11 AM

im guessing its his pickup before putting the wire on it?

-jake

Billie'sBouncer 02-28-2007 02:08 PM

I made the knobs on a drill press, I was to lazy to buy the attachment for the lath to hold the piece of wood from the middle as opposed to clamping around it.
The funky mouse ladder thing is indeed the pickup before being wound. Which mini lathe did you get, also I'd like to know how you like it, im conidering getting a smaller lathe for home.

I'm getting the micro-mark. It's the biggest of the mini's, and has rpm readout and cam-lock tailpiece. But costs a bit more. Won't be using it for a while though as I get my shop re-organized...

hellonearth07 02-28-2007 04:51 PM

Nice on the mini lathe SoM... our school shop has a CNC mini that i'm gonna program and run out some knobs later on.

it has one of those attachments that allow you to hold the piece from one end so you can get nice rounds over the top.

I'll post pics when i'm done with them

Billie'sBouncer 02-28-2007 08:11 PM

Nice, will be interested to see how you like it, I think im gonna try my hand at turning a bowl out of some kind of burl on one of the larger lathes, Ive been lookin around for a smaller one for knobs and stuff don't really wanna break the drill press at the school from the lateral force on the press, can't afford to buy them a new one lol, plus im trying to get a small shop together at home anyways.

DR250 with an old GK head

I'm building a bass in our school right now, so when i get that done i'll get the whole family posted...

A lil bit of trouble with the head, so i might make my own power and pre amp later on this spring and summer

EDIT:
heres a pic i forgot i had on my phone of my bass so far

LambofDeth 03-08-2007 08:38 PM

Would anyone mind posting how to go about making a tone knob using a lathe? I don't own one, but my middle school does, and i think they would probably let me go in and use it for a day, or even the drill press is that works as well. Ideally i want a wood tone knob for my near done fretless, which i plan to stain green to match the sides of the bass (the front is natural).

hellonearth07 03-09-2007 06:46 PM

^ ^

take a square block of wood, round it over to a cylinder and after that drill a hole in the bottom a little bit to small for the pot shaft.

After that take some sand paper and clean out the hole so it fits nice and snug on the shaft.... finish the knob and thats pretty well it

LambofDeth 03-10-2007 01:04 AM

Sounds so simple, i plan on looking into this.
Unfortunately my school trip to Cuba has left me broke, so things like new tone knobs/hardware are last on the list of what i should spend on, but i definetely want wood tone knobs, thanks.
