Yeah, like if you use Bit Torrent, they have all these discographies, and I probably haven't listened to half the cds, or if I did it would be like once.

Oh. Thanks.

Hey did you all know that when The floyd were looking for a name
one that they thought of was The Megadeaths. I thought that was really funny

I got that from the Megadeth thread

Riva 11-22-2005 07:45 PM

I own all of Pink Floyd's works, and I enjoy the majority of the songs on all of them.

Isn't Pink Floyd's name from those two blues guitarists?

(Pink Anderson and Something Floyd?)

Riva 11-22-2005 08:11 PM

Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, I believe.

standard 11-22-2005 08:20 PM

Yep.

I'm learning the Shine On (I-V) intro solo deal.. Super fun to play, and sounds sweet.. But I'll never match that tone.

Oh, thanks. That was bugging me for the past few days.

Gilmour's tone really good. It's my favorite out of anyone. Especially in Time. That song is amazing.

Romencer17 11-22-2005 09:54 PM

That one sounds awesome on clean.

Here's me playing it with distortion: http://media.putfile.com/Shine-On-Solo

Kingofdudes 11-23-2005 10:03 AM
If they could take about 3/4 of OBC and a couple of songs from More, they could re-release it as "Pink Floyd: The Soundtracks" and it would be amazing
If only they could find the "Us and Them" piano melody recorded for Zabrsikie point and put it on there, then it would be amazing.

But wasn't their name originally "The Pink Floyd Sound"?
Most of their vinyls aren't too hard to find except maybe PATGOD... I think you can find that one for the same price as a cd if you search a little tho. I see The Wall and DSOTM all the time on second hand markets... :)
I have The Piper At The Gates on vynil. It came as "A nice pair" which was a vynil of the first 2 albums.
But wasn't their name originally "The Pink Floyd Sound"?
Yes....

shamed-angel 11-23-2005 11:57 AM

So where did the names come into it? There's no mention of that in Inside Out, which is my source of Pink Floyd knowlege.

Maybe Nick Mason didn't want to simply ramble on about the names of P.F

I heard that through a vox valvetronix the other day and it sounded incredible

standard 11-23-2005 01:55 PM

You can actually ALMOST match that tone on a solid state amp with a lot of bass, and 8-7 tone on the geetar. I wonder what kind of amp he used on that? Probally a Fender Twin.
So where did the names come into it? There's no mention of that in Inside Out, which is my source of Pink Floyd knowlege.
From Inside Out:

"Syd produced, with little further ado, the name The Pink Floyd Sound, using the first names of two venerable blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council."

Looks like the old reading skills could use a little sharpening ;)

EDIT: I would read a Saucerful of Secrets if I were you; it's a less lucid but more in-depth biography of the band

I had a hard time getting through that book for some reason. But never
the less it was a great book. It had lots of great story's there that I hadn't heard before.

Whale and Wasp 11-23-2005 04:02 PM

i like saucerful of secrets better than inside out......i actaully got sort of disinterested in the middle of inside but that was probably because i'd already read a hundred pink floyd biographies by then

LoL

It's funny how many Bio's people make of the same band.

I've seen 2 million Led Zep Bio's
about 1 million Hendrix Bio's
at least 2.5 million PF bio's
5 Billion Beatles bio's

and the list go's on and on

Yield 11-23-2005 06:36 PM

I don't know if this is going to be interesting or not, but I was reading Saucerful Of Secrets the other day and I found out that the cover on Meddle was an underwater ear listening to sound waves. The books really good, it helped me understand certain songs better. For example, Wish You Were Here has a bunch of references to stuff about Syd, like the fact that he was a painter.

Anderson Council just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?

magicbus 11-23-2005 07:25 PM
yeah, that's what i meant about saucerful being more in depth. it's really cool that way
I haven't gotten to any of that stuff yet. I probably should continue reading, as I stopped about 5 chapters in.

Spinal Pap 11-23-2005 08:09 PM
Anderson Council just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
Sure doesn't, though I'm fairly sure that if Floyd had gone by that instead, I would still listen to them.

NP: Syd Barrett - Terrapin

Agreed.

I enjoyed Saucerful of Secrets, and recommend that anyone interesting in learning more about Pink Floyd read it.

I'm so naming my next band Anderson Council.

Dude you should do a PF cover band with that name!

I really wouldn't recomend that book to new comers though.
