Peter Tosh - Equal Rights
Nice :thumb: I love that album -- possibly Tosh's best. I'd say "Equal Rights" is the best song off of it. |

I'm liking Equal Rights much better than Legalize It. Junior Murvin is fantastic also.

Reggae Mailing List #5 Alpha Blondy - Rasta Pou ..tell me what you think |
Recently I've been loving the Augustus Pablo/King Tubby album King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown. It's a fantastic dub album and really enjoyable. This review from allmusic sums it up pretty well.
If you had to pick one album that best represents the pinnacle of the art of dub, you'd cull the candidates down pretty quickly to ten or 12, and it would get very difficult after that. Few would fault you for ending up with this one, though, which stands as perhaps the finest collaboration between two of instrumental reggae's leading lights: producer and melodica player Augustus Pablo and legendary dub pioneer King Tubby. Among other gems, this album offers its title track -- a dub version of Jacob Miller's "Baby I Love You So" -- which is widely regarded as the finest example of dub ever recorded. But the rest of the album is hardly less impressive. "Each One Dub," another cut on a Jacob Miller rhythm, possesses the same dark and mystical ambience, if not quite the same emotional energy, as "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown," and the version of the epochal "Satta Massaganna" that closes the album is another solid winner. Pablo's trademark "Far East" sound (characterized by minor keys and prominent melodica lines) is predominant throughout, and is treated with care and grace by King Tubby, who has rarely sounded more inspired in his studio manipulations than he does here. Absolutely essential.
I keep on forgetting to listen to the Alpha Blondy album, but I promise I will soon. |

yeah i downloaded that album..its great, but still doesnt compare to bad brains dub |
I listened to the Alpha Blondy and found it relatively uninteresting. I should listen to the Bad Brains dub album again, I listened to it once and didn't love it right away and haven't listened to it since.

I listened to both Black Uhuru albums and they are great. Is the Sly and Robbie/King Tubby one just a collection of songs from both artists?

'Ey guys.
I'm so glad this thread is still going! I would love to be on this mailing list. piratesatellite@lycos.com More pressingly, though, my computer can't handle Soulseek. I ordered 'Heart Of The Congos' about two months ago on Amazon.com and I haven't received it yet, and I can't find the CD or vinyl anywhere. If anyone has it and would like to send it to AIM- arsonmadeeasy, I would be very thankful. |
I found some internet store that has Heart of the Congos on LP and I'm going to get it. The sound should be great on vinyl.
I don't think I can share files over AIM, but I can easily upload it on yousendit and then give you the link, if that's okay. |
You are the man. Thank you so much.

i didnt find kaya that great? what are some of your favourite songs off that album?...catch a fire is the best, in my opinion |
Haa, I think he was referencing Kaya as in the dread Marijuana, my man.
I just recently listened to some tracks off of 'Firehouse Rock' by the Wailing Souls and sweet sassy molassy, it is fine. I probably won't be able to afford it until January, but until then, I'm just listening to the tunes I have on here. For those with extra cash or Soulseek or whatever, it comes highly recommended. Also, my computer can't handle YSI uploads, but I just got 'Arkology' by Lee "Scratch" Perry, which is a three-disc boxed set and it is killer. It really does a great job of showcasing Perry's talent. My screen name is arsonmadeeasy if anyone wants it. |
