You want doom/death.

Look for Mourning Beloveth, Morgion, Evoken etc

joe_fresh 06-03-2005 08:21 AM

figured it would be easier to upload as one file, so here is a winrar file with:

memento mori from album songs for the apocalypse
heathendoom from life, death and other morbid tales
morpheus (my deadly friend) from la danse macabre
http://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1WTOI7RRCFOIZ05LOXUKWECNQN

might upload more later

Hmm, i've requested some Funebrarum and Mourning beloveth in the YSI, had it requested for ages, but nobody's sent anything:(

Phototropic 06-04-2005 03:54 AM

*Listens to newly aquired The River EP*

Mother 06-04-2005 04:14 AM

Im just getting it\nto the Doom thing can anyone recomend some bands like 'Katatonia".

Jondur 06-06-2005 03:53 AM

It depends what era Katatonia you're talking about. "Brave Murder Day" era is a crabon copy of Paradise Lost "Gothic". "Tonights Decision" is probably closer to later Anathema in feel.

I wouldn;t say any of it was doom though.

Deadinlove: glad you got the CD. I hope you enjoy it.

Phototropic 06-06-2005 04:03 AM

Oh yeah

Some great stuff there :D

Cheers

Grey Incision 06-06-2005 04:05 AM

JOndur, any chance of uploading some mourning beloveth in YSI?

Arise II 06-06-2005 04:52 AM

Hey, you guys, check these two bans out.

http://www.sonsofotis.com/

http://centrifugemusic.tripod.com/index.html

I found these via stonerrock.com. I've just started to get heavily into stoner rock/metal (thankyouverymuchKyuss :) ) and these two bands are both frickin' awesome

mick7 06-06-2005 06:02 AM

My Dying Bride and Moonspell might be worth checking out for all the guys who are just getting into the doom metal scene.

Jondur 06-06-2005 06:19 AM

Grey Incision: Unlikely - I only really use the internet at work and there's loads of security things that mean unloading is probably not possible.

Mick7 - There's no doom in Moonspell. The first EP is a cracker though.

joe_fresh 06-06-2005 07:04 AM

what did you think of the memento mori jondur?

Shred Danson 06-06-2005 09:09 AM

I always thought of Moonspell as a melancholy-ish melodic death metal band.

Well I downloaded but I haven't had chance to listen yet because my PC doesn't know what a RAR file is. Apparently I have to download something to be able to listen to it.

Searched the thread and didn't find anything, so have any of you heard of Earthride? I just found a little synopsis about their debut album, and it sounds like it might be good;

"The debut album from this low-end shuddering new doom group led by SPIRIT CARAVAN bassist DAVID SHERMAN, who has too much energy for just one band. An abrasive and ugly, doom-ridden powerhouse of raw and nasty ultra-heavy rock thunder produced by CHRIS KOSLOWSKI (Pentagram, Spirit Caravan, Internal Void, Obsessed). Some heavy-ass shit."

Phototropic 06-08-2005 01:53 PM

I thought this was worthy enough news to justify bringing this thread back from dead.....

The original Revelation "Salvations Answer" line up have got back together to form a new band Against Nature - hear some stuff here:

http://www.myspace.com/againstnature

Salvation's Answer line-up
John Brenner: guitar, vocals
Bert Hall: bass
Steve Branagan: drums

I've yet to hear it as MySpace is blocked at work but anything with this line up just cannot fail to be amazing!

joe_fresh 08-03-2005 10:03 AM

As promising as it sounds, i listened to the first song on MySpace and it wasnt really that good, but i shall listen to the others.

Seeing as im here i will recommened some new bands (well, new to me):

Porn (aka Men of Porn) with dale crover from melvins and billy anderson producer of bands like sleep, neurosis, orange goblin, cathedral. Quite hard to describe, sort of prog doom and strange in places.

YOB. Sort of like reverend bizarre crossed with electric wizard.

Warhorse. Similar to Thee Plague of Gentleman.

ATM 08-03-2005 10:08 AM

I just got my first Candlemass album. It's awesome.

Arrakakaka 09-11-2005 05:22 PM

Lucky you! Epicus Doomicus Metallicus still hasn't came in the mail

I am into alot of stoner and doom.

ween2424 09-11-2005 09:25 PM

Crowbar
High on Fire
Clutch
Suplecs
Corrosion of Conformity
Alabama Thunderpussy
The Melvins
Eyehategod
Sixty Watt Shaman

Stoner/Doom is my favorite genre of music.

Jondur 09-12-2005 04:05 AM

But yet you haven't mentioned a single doom band?

Nice to see this thread back. I will use this opportunity to tell you about the Pentagram day I'm having today. I love this band. Got "Be Forewarned" on now and am amazed at the crushnity of the guitar sound.

There's no such thing and as far as I know Crowbar are considered Sludge in the same vein of EyeHateGod etc.

Yes they are a decent band but not for this topic. Here's soom doom bands:

Solstice
Millarca
Isole
St Vitus
Thee Plague of Gentlemen
Warning

Stoic 09-12-2005 10:23 AM

Please someone send me an Isen Torr song :(

Eyehategod is sludge for sure. I've heard Crowbar concidered sludge. They call themselves "doomcore" on their website. They aren't like most sludge bands though. Their stuff is too tight. Thanks for the recomendations though. I'll be sure and check them out.

Would sludge just be concidered a heavy sub-genre of stoner metal? It seems like it to me.
