I seem to recall a cover of this song. If I remember correctly it was done by Sheryl Crow or someone... Anyway it starts off in a pretty generic, yet cool riff. Then it goes into heavy distortion then back to the soft music with a keyboard. The vocals are very fragile but at the same time very different and I like them. The guitar has a sort of distorted affect. "Baby, I'll try to love again, 'cos I know, the first cut is deepest." It has an echo in the chorus. Also the background vocals consist of more than one person singing "ooo, ooo, ooo." After 2 minutes or so it breaks into a solo then goes back into the softer riff. "...and if you want I'll try to love again." This song was really cool and it's way better than the Sheryl Crow cover. That's for sure. If anything, this just got me interested in more of the band's material.

The song starts with a little simple bassline before the guitars and drums kick in. The music is pretty mellow. The vocals come-n and they're pretty cool and more melodic than the screeching you get with some female punk singers. At the end of every other line her voice goes up a bit and makes her sound slightly frantic. The lyrics are pretty cool. I really liked the opening line "Tried to find my piece of mind but only found my mind in pieces." After a few lines the vocals change get wuieter for no discernable reason before the chorus comes in. The chorus is pretty catchy with the same simple but effective music. There's another verse then after the next chorus there's a little guitar solo which fits in with the rest of the song well even if it isn't particularly impressive by itself before another verse and chorus which fades out. I liked this song. It wasn't amazing but it was pretty enjoyable even if it could have been a bit faster. 7/10

It starts off with a guy talking about space and man. Then it goes into this really awesome guitar riff that immediately gets me into the song. The singer then begins and the guitar goes into a US Bombs like riff. Then it goes really fast and stops and makes a noise. I like the vocalist he has a cool voice. I really like the chorus too. The same fast riff continues through most of the song. I've never heard this genre before and I'm really happy with it. Nice recommendation Joe.

A great great anarcho band that I havn't heard too much of. Just the song off of "Anti-War" which is amazing. Going into this song I wasn't expecting anything great musicially, but I was wrong. The two female singers in this song carry great harmony. Although both singers sound EXACTALLY the same. Their vocals play off of each other, bouncing to each girl after every line, Its wonderful. The guitar tone is kinda annoying though, I don't like it. I can't seem to find Lyrics for this so its pretty hard to critique it. Score - [I]8/10[/I][B]

I have to admit that I don't listen to street punk. I hoped that listening to this song would get me into it. Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly amazing enough to get me into a whole new genre.

The song starts off with a bit of feedback and then goes into a nice little rolling drum beat that is then joined by a suitable bass riff and finally, a guitar riff gets going. So far so good; I'm liking the intro a lot. The music suddenly stops and the vocalist let's out a yell, accompanied by a speedy riff leading into the main song. The same riff is repeated throughout the song with some hard to hear, yet solid vocals on top until a distorted solo although the rhythm guitar remains the same. I couldn't really bother to give this more listens because it is essentially a formulaic punk song with the same chord progressions etc. throughout with little interesting respite. I suppose this would be a good song for fans of the genre, but it's just not really for me: [B]6/10[/B]

It starts off very heavy then the melodic guitars come in. It starts off very well then the singer starts. I really don't like the vocals that much. It's an uncanny mix of screaming and shouting. It's just like; choose one. The music is very good and it continues with the heavy strokes then the melodic riffs following. At about 1:50 the song starts to get better with the backup vocals and the melodic guitar taking over. "Nothing left for you, **** you." Then it goes into a really nice sounding guitar stroke. Then back into the heavier more metal taste. I can't get into this because it sounds to much like metal, and I just can't get into metal. It's a pretty good song though.

The song slows down and then picks up momentum again. The lyrics are good but the song lacks a little variation. It finishes fairly well with an increased drum beat and more ferocious shouting. The songs starts very quietly sounding quite ambient and spooky before the regular Minutemen post-punk funk sound kicks in at about 15 seconds with Mike Watt's amazing basslines and George Hurley's insistent drumbeats supporting D. Boon's angular guitar work and slightly strained vocals. The lyrics are pretty cool as you would expect from the Minutemen and the musicianship (especially from Dboon) is uniformly excellent and very catchy. Like most Minutemen songs it doesn't last long and finishes pretty abruptly. I like the Minutemen so I liked this song. This song is for Minutemen fans or people who like The talking Heads' funkier stuff. 8/10

Husker Du-Turn on the News

The song starts off with a few piano chords played a few times then clips of news start playing, can't really make out what its saying though. Sounds like Nortons singing, but I'm no Husker Du expert so I'm not to sure. Whoevers singing has a more "traditional" voice than Mould does. The words seem to be about what you typicaly hear if you turned on the news. Mould's guitar playing never lets up, the guitar solo is a fine example of Moulds musicianship. The song is everything you'd expect from Husker Du zen-arcade era. Hardcore but with pop influences.

The guitar plays this cool tune in the background and then the singer comes in. He's very simple, like this song. I'm really starting to like it a lot. It gets softer as the singer sings the chorus "make sure that you are sure, of everything I do." The guitar tune in the background is really good and I like the chorus a lot. The tune and chorus pretty much go on the entire song until the end where there is a breakdown and it sounds really good. "Maybe you're right, I shouldn't judge, what's wrong or right." The pace of the song is quite slow during the first verse and the singing could do with some more aggression however, when the chorus begins my whole perceptions of the song change. A great guitar riff accompanies the singer bellowing "TEACHING YOU THE FEAR". The second and third verses are in the same structure as the first. The song finishes with the brilliant chorus. The lyrics are good, the bass is really good and the chorus is amazing. I'm definitely going to check this band out some more. 9/10

The verse is repeated twice and then it goes into a slow breakdown sort of thing. After this it ends. Short, catchy hardcore, the way its meant to be done. Love this song. 8/10

It starts off down on the neck with a very awesome, catchy riff. Then it goes into chords and the singer starts singing. He sings stretched out with backing vocals screaming. It's very good so far. "New joy, new tears." The vocals go very well with the guitar and it keeps doing that interesting riff followed by the same chords. It's very repetitive. I really like the lyrics in the chorus. "A new song, for a new age. New joy, new tears." Then at the end of the song it goes into more chords and a different backing guitar. Then he starts a whisper which doesn't last that long and the screaming comes in after. The end has the same chords except the riff is much more peppy. I really like this, melodic hardcore always gets me.

This song go's straight into the vocals with the vocals and intermittent guitar blasts over a really cool drumbeat before the music kicks in properly at about 12 seconds. This is pop-punk as it should be catchy and fast. I've always liked the guys voice although it does get drowned out slightly in parts. At about a minute some other guy sings a bit which is cool before it goes back into the pop-punk of before. I particularly liked the bassline in this part. The song continues in the same vein. There's a brief instrumental which is awesome before it builds before going into a mellower section with another really cool bassline before it speeds up again for the end of the song. Any pop-punk fan will enjoy this song. It made me wonder why I haven't listened to Dillinger Four in ages. 9/10

The song begins with a bunch of talking, radio noises in the background with piano in occasionally. Then the distorted guitar with an awesome riff in the background comes in. The vocals come in and they sound really raw and awesome. It echoes a lot "turn on, turn on, turn on, the news." "I hear it everyday on the radio, some guy shoots a guy he doesn't even know." They lyrics are really cool and I didn't expect the sort from Husker Du. It continues with the same really distorted guitar and occasional neat riff in the background. Then it goes into a solo and there's clapping in the background. The solo is pretty cool and definitely gives the song some variety which it needed. The singer makes a weird noise after the solo then it goes back into "turn on, turn on, turn on, turn on the news." He starts to scream it a bit near the end and the solo has more emphasis. "You got to turn it on!" This song has a lot of energy and it is definitely awesome.

The intro to this song surprised me. I thought they were supposed to be some hardcore anarcho band but instead it starts of with a riff straight from some sort of indie-pop song. It's a pretty cool riff too. Then the drums and vocals kick in and it sounds like a hardcore anarcho punk shouting over a indie-pop-punk song with badly mixed drums. It's an odd sound. The drums are incredibly annoying, the rest of the music is pretty cool and the vocals and lyrics aren't bad. The song continues in the smae vein with a bit of variation when the drums don't sound so horrible. Seriously, it's like the drummer had everything but his hi-hat stolen. This had the potential to be a really good song but it the drums spoilt it. It just sounded too messy. 7/10

It's pretty cool, but it needs more variety. It goes back into the same chord progression then changes again for the chorus. I'm listening to the lyrics and they are definitely making up a lot for the song. It's pretty cool he goes "lift your hands in the hair ladies, show 'em how it's done." Then a female comes in a starts singing! I haven't heard anything like that before, it was pretty cool. This song is apparently about unity between the sexes? Musically it reminds me of Dillinger Four. Then there's a section with much cleaner vocals and a staccato almost ska-like guitar. This pattern repeats a couple of times. Then ther's a heavier section which goes back into the intro before it repeats again. The song continues in the same vein until the ending repeating previous sections and with afalse ending or two. This was a good song but not really outstanding. If you like bands like Dillinger Four and The Soviettes you'll like this. A good a pop-punk song. 6.5/10

This beat sustains throughout the whole song. "The times, they are a changin'." A harmonica comes in and it adds a really nice affect to it. "Keep your eyes wide." I like the lyrics a whole lot. You can hear a faint second guitar that's playing a cool riff. I think the harmonica should be incorporated more in the song. But I like when it comes in, it goes very well with the song. I'm not very into reggae, but I'm really starting to like this song, it's not as slow as all the other ones. Great song, especially for reggae.

The song starts out with just a lot of fuzz, which slowly turns into a VERY distorted guitar. The drums then enter in, and a real riff starts up. Vocals enter in around 25 seconds, and are the 'yelling more then singing style', although in the Chorus, there is a bit of attempt at melody (the Chorus is merely them singing '4 minute warning'). There is a sorta drum solo, or at least extensive drum fill about 1:30 in, but besides that, there is pretty much no variation as far as the music goes. The song ends with a explosion sound.

Well, the song was to repetative I felt, and while I do appreciate a lot in the genre, I really couldn't connect with it to much, so 6/10.

It starts off with an awesome guitar riff that reminds me of a part in a Conflict song and it gets me right into the song. Then it fades off and comes back in with lighter guitar and good vocals. The guitar makes a solo and then the chorus comes in which is very good. I like the chorus a lot. "Ohhhh, ohh do I have to go?" I actually really like the lyrics, they have a very cool sound to them. At about halfway into the song the awesome guitar riff comes in again and the drums make a louder appearance. Then a huge solo starts breaking out afterwards. It goes on for a pretty long time and it is a very well done solo compared to most I hear. Then the it goes back into the singing. "Now I've decided I have to go, ooohh, ohh, do I have to go?" "I could laugh, I could cry and don't ask me why, in the land of the few." The lyrics are awesome, the music is awesome and the way they put them together makes it double-awesome.
This song rules, but not as much as Hunter. Good call man. So well done.

Song starts with some cymbal sounding stuff, and then is joined by what sounds like an electric organ. The vocals - female - come in about 1/2 minute in; not too melodic, and not much attempt at singing, but it fits the song. The guitar seems to become more pronounced as the song progresses, being masked by the organesque sound in the beginning; and the bass seems louder later on in the song as well. Near the end, the song starts to slow down, and the cymbal sound comes back in. The song then briefly picks up, with the vocalist yelling, and the beat picking up, but then it all fizzles out for the ending.

I felt that the song was pretty good, held up to what I expect - and like - in the genre. 8/10.

I searched for every band for a long time, even before I dibs'd and couldn't find anything. Then when I did it wouldn't download. So I took the liberty of doing another song by one of the artists. I don't think anyone will mind. The YSI didn't work either, so I don't think anyone will throw up a fuss.
It starts off on a solo and there is two guitars. I really like the intro. "Have you been around, have you done your share?" "Have you been aware, that you got brother's and sister's that care?" The lyrics are immediately pretty awesome. They're pretty much of unity and brotherhood (living together). Then it goes back into the solo and it doesn't really have any strumming in the song. However there is occasional piano, which definitely adds a lot to it. "Do you know their names? Can you play their games?" I really like these lyrics about sharing the land and all of that. "Baby, I'll be there to shake your hand, baby i'll be there to share the land." All the music stops near the end of the song and they sing, then it comes back in with a bell in the background. Really cool song, I like the lyrics and the music is definitely the right kind. Expected this kind from Hunter.

Starts off with a slow drum beat and guitar that speeds up and louden. The vocals start in, and they sortof sound like the male singer from Crass, but a little different. Typical anarcho vocals that sound pretty bored. In the chrous a very faint female vocalist comes in. The drumbeat is very crass-esque, and the guitar is very simplisitc, like all anarcho it isn't focused on the music. It's kind of hard to hear what the vocalist is saying though because of his bored voice, and accent that is kind of hard to understand. The drums are kind of drowning him out too. The best I can get out of it is it is about someone realizing that it is really only you out there and no one else. The music doesn't change for the rest of the song, and the vocals are very linear throughout the whole song. Typical anarcho song.

If he's serious and his lyrics were better this song would kick a lot more *** then it already does. I really like the beat that ups pitch later on in the song. It's really cool. It has piano too "it's not like could stop me." I really like the beat and this song is actually really awesome. However if he's joking around then it isn't NEARLY as good. I surprisingly loved this, maybe I am a nerd.

The song starts with a bunch of static and random noises a la Husker Du's Turn On The News before a sound clip of someone talking about war before the sound of a machine gun heralds the start of the song. There's a short heavily distorted riff before a big drum-roll and siren like guitar cut in which build up to the main riff with the vocalist shouting "GO!" This section is pretty cool with a nice bassline and edgy guitars over hi-hat-heavy (but not overly so) drumming. The vocals are pretty average male anarcho vocals with a British accent. For the chorus there's a squeaky female vocalist who sings along which makes for an interesting effect. The music changes slightly too but retains it's feel before another build-up to the male vocalist shouting "Oi!" a few times. The lyrics are a bit unclear. At one point I think "Banned From The Roxy" is mentioned. After the next chorus there's a tempo change but the music sounds pretty similar and it speeds up quickly into the same drum-roll build-up then main riff, this time with a riff in the background. After another chorus it ends abruptly. I liked this song, musically it was quite enjoyable and the vocals, while largely incomprehensible, fitted the song well. It won't appeal to people who don't already like this sort of thing though and it did drag on slightly despite the variation. 8/10

I saw that this song was from the Calypso Box set, so I decided to take a listen to it because I liked the first disc of that box set. The actual music sounds like a blend of ska and cuban/hispanic music. Very latin flavoured with the ska sounds. Ther lyrics are about a guy and his sausage. Lots of inneundo in there and it's quite entertaining with the little insturmental breaks it makes a pretty good song. I could imagine being in a mexican restraun with a band in the background playing this song. The lyrics may not be acceptable for a family restraunt though, unless the people just won't get the innuendo. Overall it's a pretty good song and I enjoyed it a lot.

It starts off with a really cool, trance-like beat. The snare comes in and then the very incredibly awesome bass line. I can tell I'm going to like this song already. The vocals come in and they sound sort of like INXS for some reason. It's very hip-hop and I want to dance in my chair like Nick said. The guitar is very simplistic in the beginning and has very random strums. The bass however has an extremely awesome line. Then there's no vocals and just drums on plastic with guitar that sounds almost acoustic. It's a very clean sound and that goes on for a bit. The vocals and cool bass line come back in. The lyrics are pretty easy to understand but they aren't that great of lyrics so I'm not really bothering to document on them. Then there comes bells shaking that reminds me of Christmas. It goes back into the singing and there is echoes and the guitar starts to play bolder and more solid riffs and other material. "Is this thing on?" There also starts to have more backing vocals and then a trumpet comes in and it actually has a really cool part in the song. It kind of goes into a jam then the trumpet comes back in and there's about 2 minutes left in this song. I kind of blanked out at a point in time because it's so awesome. Then it calms down and the guitar plays a more mellow riff which I like. The singer starts singing more solid like and I really like this part. "Crazy, crazy, crazy" that echoes and it has a cool effect. He then starts to whisper "hey, hey, hey" and then starts speaking jibberish and I really can't understand what he's saying at all. "Everyone's acting like i'm f'ucking crazy or something." I really like how he says it because it's like he's trying to really get something that's burdening him. "Is there anyone that speaks English?" The guitar is really mellow now and there is an organ like sound in the background. That's how the song ends. Wow, this totally blew me away especially at the end. I've been meaning to check these guys out and this was a great way to. Amazing song, to say the least. And I'm not really into the new wave thing but this was awesome and got me into a whole new genre.

The song starts with a fast drum rhythm on the rim of the snare, then in comes a cool little picking line on guitar. Then in comes more basic strumming and soon a female vocalist, that due to the poor quiality of the recording is almost impossible to understand. For the chorus a male voice joins in which I hear "Everything was easier when I thought that I knew everything", then the second verse is the male vocalist. The song is pretty basic structure, and nothing special when it comes to instruments. For a lover of the folk-punk, it's a pretty good song even with the problems with recording quality. The band has caught my attention and I just hope I can hear some stuff with better quality.

For those who enjoy folk-punk it's a pretty good song but otherwise I don't know how well others would like it. I personally give it a 7/10

It starts off with a muted guitar then the singing comes in quick. "Kaye, are you even real? Do you think that we could be lovers once in a while?" The muted guitar lasts for the whole intro, then it goes into a riff then the drums come in. The muted guitar still lasts but the backing guitar has cool riffs that definitely make the song better. So this song is basically about some girl Kaye and they're trying to understand each other. The lyrics are mediocre for an indie band, I suppose. Then he starts singing and his voice alternates from high to low which adds a cool effect. "I try to be anything that doesn't, drive her away." I think the lyrics are pretty cool. He starts singing the end of this verse and then it goes into my favorite part of the song, the instrumental. It's very powerful and touches the song up perfectly because the breakdown is very well done. It sounds really good and then it goes "Kaye are you even real?" Then the song is finished. The first time I listened to this song it was ok, now I like it. It's pretty cool, I may download their album one time.
