I can think of something better :naughty:
I'm looking forward to getting back. This is boring.

Kingofdudes 08-17-2004 04:18 PM

Captain Jack Sparrow 08-17-2004 04:25 PM
Yeah, I'm definitely checking out the new Sum 41 when it comes out.
I have the new single "Bleed" if you want to give it a listen. It's not half bad.

Bartender 08-17-2004 05:08 PM

I don't know when I'm due to start Uni (provided I get in), but I think it's sometime midway through September

Bartender 08-17-2004 06:59 PM

Leeds (sorry for late reply, I went away to watch a film pretty much straight after posting that).

Dancin' Man 08-17-2004 09:17 PM

There is only one school I'm currently interested in attending for college (but I'll find others). Berklee School of Music in Boston. For composition or audio recording (I'll never be good enough at guitar :upset: )

Meh, I'm only a junior this year so I have some time to figure it out. If I could find a school in NYC I liked or California though......

Dancin' Man 08-17-2004 09:32 PM

Hot shit. I just heard Ad Astra by Arcturus. This song kicks ass. The strings are great. Awesome song. To make this post relevant, anyone else heard them?

Ve Das 08-18-2004 03:48 AM

Yep,not exactly my favorite band, though. You should talk to Per Ad about em ;)

Riva 08-18-2004 05:30 AM

Speaking of liking things, I like Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen. I'm going to sleep now.

RideTheSpiral 08-18-2004 06:43 AM

So how about that off-topic Rock/Metal chat?

Bartender 08-18-2004 06:47 AM

Yeah, how about it. How are things in your part of the world?

And yes, Per Ardua's a bit of an Arcturus fanatic. I've heard three tracks by them, I think, two on a CD he sent me and one for Forced Listening. Good, but I'm not inspired to buy anything by them yet.

RideTheSpiral 08-18-2004 06:49 AM

Should I buy a laptop or a proper computer?

Bartender 08-18-2004 06:53 AM

Unless you're planning on doing lots of work on buses and trains and things, I'd buy a proper computer. Laptops are apparently a bastard to upgrade, so they fall behind fairly swiftly.

Toozey 08-18-2004 06:55 AM

Theres no room in a laptop to put new parts in and they are just gay to use anyway.

Bartender 08-18-2004 06:57 AM

^Yeah. My laptop broke after a year or so anyway.

Toozey - Supernal was out of Forever Advancing...... Legions. Bastards.

RideTheSpiral 08-18-2004 06:58 AM

These are good points. What I was thinking was getting the laptop then setting it up with a proper monitor, keyboard etc. I just like laptops because they're convenient, and if I go travelling next year I can take it easy and never have to leave mx. :p

Bartender 08-18-2004 07:07 AM

Medopalis, are you trying for University this year?

RideTheSpiral 08-18-2004 07:12 AM
Some good priorities. ;) I really like my laptop (courtesy of Toshiba). Good idea on setting it up with a monitor though, I think that's what my parents have. Could cost a lot though...
About $2,500 for a good setup I think.

Rage Against The Lavigne 08-18-2004 07:42 AM
Leeds (sorry for late reply, I went away to watch a film pretty much straight after posting that).
Course?

/late interest/

Bartender 08-18-2004 07:52 AM

Philosophy. Are you Universitying this year?
No, I've still got 2 or so years before I have to worry about that!
Ah okay. Just wondered, since you asked me.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 07:56 AM

Philosophy 0wns.

Bartender 08-18-2004 08:11 AM

Nah, I didn't do an A-Level in it. My AS choices were German, History, Psychology and Biology; I dropped Biology. I would've preferred, looking back, to take RS/philosophy over Biology, but no matter. Few philosophy courses require an A-level in Philosophy anyway.

Bartender 08-18-2004 08:53 AM
Philosophy 0wns.
Maybe so, but I hold no illusions that it's not a "proper" course.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 08:57 AM

"proper" in what way?

Bartender 08-18-2004 09:00 AM
"proper" in what way?
It's unlikely to get me a job, and it's one of the courses people traditionally sneer at as a skive. I'm looking forward to it though, I applied for courses based on what I thought would be interesting/fun, rather than useful.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 09:01 AM

If I didn't take a philosophy class in high school, my life would be very different right now.

I think its a worthwhile course, regardless of its value in the workplace.

Bartender 08-18-2004 09:03 AM
I know what you mean...it's one of the few subjects that seems really interesting, and yet challenging at the same time to me. Unlike stuff like physics, which is just plain challenging. The main reason I might not do it next year is to do history & ecomonics instead, and then try and take it up again at university.

*realises school starts in less than 2 weeks, and I really should have chosen subjects now. :upset:*
Are you choosing subjects for AS? If you are, I'd recommend Psychology, unless you're specifically against it for some reason - I chose it because I thought it'd be interesting, and it turned out to be really fun to do (helped by the fact one of the teachers I had for it was great), and really easy; since you haven't done it before, they have to build it from the ground up, so I found it pretty easy to catch on to.

Anyway, you can always drop it for A2 if you don't like it.

Yeah, that's my thinking too, but it doesn't stop peoples reactions. "Philosophy?!"
