(or just go to my aim getfile;))
I will try, but unfortunately AIM doesn't like to let me receive files at the moment (and yet I can send them all I want) :upset: I thought of a couple awesome trumpet parts I like - one ska, one not ska. Both all muffled and shit. The Littlest Man Band - Better Man (demo) The Forces of Evil - Angry Anthem #347 (the acoustic version) :thumb: |
What's your AIM Kithkin?
|
Kithkin, could you make another post on how to Skank? I read it in the one you linked to in this thread and attempted it, I think I'm doing it wrong. Should I look like I'm dancing on hot coals?
|
Check out the video for Rancid - Red Hot Moon, there's a dude skanking there. Or check out Let's Go Bowling - Spy Market, there's dudes dancing there.
There's also a video called "This Is Ska" which was a Jamaica information service film, with an old-skool English dude explaining the moves and how to dance ( ;) ) There's another thing you can get on DVD called Dance Craze, where loads of bands are skanking. Also check out this .gif a dude made, the guy is moving way fast but basically is skanking :D http://www.drstephenlittle.btinternet.co.uk/danceman.gif EDIT: Someone just gave me the heads up that they're putting on a Jaya The Cat show, and told me to get my ass there if it's all sorted. *Doing the happy dance* Only problem is it's about 5 hours away by train :amaze: |

That gif is awsome. But it looks more 2tone era than 3rd wave suburban white kid can't dance era. His feet are moving much faster than his arms. It looks really cool.
I want to see Jaya... But at least the Stray Bullets are stateside still.
Kithkin, could you make another post on how to Skank? Here's me skanking. It kind of sucks, and the link may or may not work, but oh well. http://www.angelfire.com/art2/asdf23/DACE.gif |
Hahaha. You have to copy/past it but yeah it works just fine. I parsed the url.

So recently I've been listening to this ska band that my parents used to see a lot in bars around 1982. They're called SLK. I was wondering if anyone has heard of them. I really doubt it, but I would just like to know. They may only have been known around michigan, or maybe even the midwest. Either way, I really like them. My parents have their music on vinyl, and one song on tape. I put the song from the tape onto my computer. I just wish that other people knew this band!
Edit: all that I could find on this band online, was that they're on two midwest ska compilations. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/102-2102097-1267302 |

I can't get files from you unless you add me to whatever list you allow people to see your files from, but anyways someone's getting files from me right now so I couldn't anyways |
1) Jas where did you ge that whacky pic from?
2) Can I come that Jaya The Cat Show I heard some of their stuff and I thought it was pretty good :thumb:
1) Some guy made it on TheSka for a presentation he was doing in school, hehe 2) Sure if you want a road trip/rail trip with me to Bradford then it's on :D
Here's me skanking. It kind of sucks, and the link may or may not work, but oh well.
Hehe, you move your legs HIGH, it's way cool.
SLK
I swear I have heard of them, but I can't place where. Y'all I downloaded 2 Streetlight Manifesto shows last night, and I'm going to download another tonight. Holy cow they're amazing live. And they play stuff faster live! How?! I want to put on a show of them, but now Ian says "Hey Jas if you want to do it, then you'll have to do it, I don't have enough time". Grrr, getting up my hopes like that. But I guess Adam is the only one who'll understand that rant :upset: But yeah, 2 SM shows on my iPod, and I think I may be seeing them more than once on the UK tour, they're AMAZING. check out skachilles.com/music/sm (that should work) and they got 2 shows there. My gawd. |
Thanks asdf. I'm just getting into Ska, mainstream Ska mainly (Sublime and RBF at the moment), but I plan to start going to some local shows at an all ages club. Can't wait.
|
i heard on radio one that capdown are having there last ever tour then they are spliting
|
I swear I have heard of them, but I can't place where.
Me too. I downloaded 2-3 songs from a band a while ago that was 3 letters long starting with S. But I deleted them as they weren't that good and I don't listen to just 3 songs from an artist.
But yeah, 2 SM shows on my iPod, and I think I may be seeing them more than once on the UK tour, they're AMAZING. check out skachilles.com/music/sm (that should work) and they got 2 shows there. It twas amusing.
i heard on radio one that capdown are having there last ever tour then they are spliting
That would suck:( |
I love catch 22 there my favorite ska band, there so good
|
i heard on radio one that capdown are having there last ever tour then they are spliting
I heard on the radio last week that they are staying together, and will be releasing their next album (due out soon) on their own label. And that was from the band. Who were live in session/being interviewed on the Lock-Up. I don't think they're going anywhere for a while, they've been going for 10 years and their fan base just keeps growing so I mean if I was them I wouldn't give up now...
Now now, who made a resolution to go to less shows;)
I know mum :upset: :p But I've already failed that so why try? Well as yet I haven't gone to a single show, but I already have tickets to see Green Day, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Silverstein, My Chemical Romance, and Jimmy Eat World in the coming weeks :upset: Ah why must I be so weak?
The live show I have someone asks him to play Alone in a Crowd and he tells the kid that if he keeps it up he'll be alone in a crowd. It twas amusing.
Hah, on one of them I have they go: "They keep asking for Catch 22 songs..." "What's "Catch 22", is it like a band?" "... I don't know, I thought it was a book" And there was another one where they're like "Can you back up a bit? some people at the front are getting hurt... Don't worry, man, if your leg falls off we'll sign it" |
Hey Kith-rock, what's up with the song "If You Want To Be Happy..." by the Skatalites? After investigation, it seems like it's not done by them, but by some player called Jimmy Soul. Doubleyou-tee-eff?
|
kithin

Huh... seems to be right. Well, seems I don't quite like the skatalites as much now as I thought I did anyway.
kithkin what is your screen name(A.I.M) you see very interesting and i would like that streetlight DVD
Kinswick But I'm really not that interesting... and rarely home. And I don't have any streetlight dvds. Its just a live recording in mp3 that you can get something similar visiting the site Ukskascene posted. Along with a video of the show. |
Kith you're such an AIM slut ;)
I downloaded a Streetlight live video last night... Time to watch it... |
That'd be cool if Link 80 got off their hiatus and did another tour with Capdown... in the US
|
So does everyone at Ska shows skank or something? Maybe it's just me but that would get old and look dumb? Sorry. I'ma Skanewbie.
|

You're welcome to Capdown :thumb: Haha, last week they were doing a live set on the Lock-Up, but this week it's Send More Paramedics! Hooray for the zombies! :D |
That's kind of strange, because I can't find any downloads for SLK at all. And like I said, only that little bit of information. Might be the same band, though. Who knows. |
So does everyone at Ska shows skank or something? Maybe it's just me but that would get old and look dumb? Sorry. I'ma Skanewbie.
There is lots of skanking, but it gets mixed in with other forms of "dancing". Some ska bands have heavy parts that go well with moshing, and occasionaly people pogo (jump up and down) And there are several different types of skanking, plus everyone has their own way of doing it |
six point five
www.sixpointfive.co.uk If u like ska then u r gonna love us, we are from milton keynes and we have been going for a year. We have 3 new mp3s for u to listen to including a new song called proppa ****in hassle! |
gimp
does anyone know a site where you can get gimp mp3s or cds?
|
does anyone here like whitmore they are great or Graveltrap?
|
I think Whitmore are kind of lame sometimes, but I really like the song "Sober Days". Graveltrap is good, I have one of their CDs, but I haven't listened to it too much.
On a different note, check it out you guys I found that festival in the USA that Howards Alias is playing :thumb: The Festival thing: http://www.skaweekend.com/ The bands: http://www.perfectorangemusic.com/skaweekend/bands.html It looks really good, I wish I was going, I'd love to see a load of those bands :D So if anyone goes, be sure to head over to Side Stage 2 and check them out :) Someone on The Littlest Man Band board is going, I'll tell her to do the same. |
Has anyone heard of Zen Baseballbat? They're from the UK, Jas I might've asked you before, not sure.
Anywho check 'em out |
