it's the next best thing to like, an indie chick with a black eye. |
the hose going from my coolant overflow (i think thats what it is) to my engine block has a hole in it. When i stop the car it spews smoke and gets way overheated. Its just as simple as replacing the hose im just worried about driving to the shop across town to get it fixed.
Im not too car savvy, but this seems like an easy fix |
cars are a pain in the ***

yeah cars suck. i have a tail light out my world is crashing around me :'-(
Yeah, I'd just look up the part number then go to an Autozone/O'Reilly/whatever auto parts store in someone else's car, pick it up, and replace it yourself. You may want to get a couple of the clamps just in case the old ones are shot too.
It's an easy enough repair, but you probably need to do a coolant flush, so if you're uncomfortable doing that yourself, it's best to take it somewhere close. Also, if the radiator has a plastic neck, you can crack it and need a new radiator which is a much bigger PITA to fix/pay for to get fixed. If you put some extra coolant in before you set out and keep some spare stuff with you on the trip, you should be fine. The big thing is you'll just need to watch the temp gauge on the way there. As long as it stays in the clear, you aren't really hurting anything. And if it creeps up, pull over before it hits the red, let it cool down, add some more coolant, and continue. Just make sure the engine is cool or when you release the pressure on the coolant tank, you'll get a hell of a nasty surprise.
i have already ordered the part and they have it at the mechanics shop that i normally go to. (Drummer's fathers' shop), i guess it came with a few of those clamps so im in the clear as far as that. As far as the temp its kind of an interesting ordeal. The temp gauge usually stays right in the middle when it has been running long enough for it to register, since this has been happening the gauge only goes up one more notch. There are still 2 more little notches it could raise up before it hits the red. Although when i stop the car (from driving it) the sonofabitch pours smoke to no end. And i already made that mistake last time when i was looking for the problem, it looked like a fountain in Las Vegas lol |
its so cold outside, i found a bracelet on the ground. it's one of those rubber things, red and has the word love engraved in it .
Well a little bit of coolant on a hot engine block can make a lot of steam. If the car's not overheating into the danger area you're probably okay enough to drive it to the shop. I'd just top off coolant before I head out there.
this is probably a good idea. i do need to do a flush when i get this thing fixed. i was wondering if the amount of steam had to do with the amount of coolant leaking from the broken hose. |
will do. it is pretty nerveracking stopping at a stoplight and seeing all the steam rise from the hood. **** sucks
i have a 94 volks jetta so its a pretty simple set up, hose just runs straight from the overflow chamber straight to the engine block. bout as simple as it gets. thanks for the tips paul, ill make sure to ask him what he plans on doing after we install the hose, and if he's not up for doing it, i have plenty of coolant at home and ill just do it when i get back there |
hopefully its that simple lol
