I wouldn't say I idolize him. Nor do I find his music all that boring. As for generic... well, I don't really know of anyone else who sounds like him, so whatever. I really enjoy what he does.

Once in my Com Tech class this girl had her iPod hooked up to one of the computers and she was trying to decide what to pick. She said she was debating between Bright Eyes and Thursday and I had never heard Bright Eyes so I said to play them, naturally. Now I don't know if it was the just the song or if they always sound like that, but if it's the latter then I definately don't like them.

I see a lot of comparisons to Bob Dylan though I don't listen to him so I can't validate that. I think what little I heard of Jack Johnson was the same boring drawl. Really, acoustic isn't cool just because you play guitar and sing. Too many people seem to think that. Spill Canvas is good acoustic. Flamenco is good acoustic. Strumming chords in a whiny lackluster voice is not.

I won't pretend he's a great singer, but just something about his music makes me keep listening. And eprsonally I love his songwriting, but I wouldn't agree with alot of these kiddies who claim he's the "Best songwriter of our generation(I remember reading that somewhere.)" I'm not saying he's 100% original, or the best musician ever to live, I just really enjoy his music.
