I really like the Grateful Dead s/t. I like the early raw sound and the way the blend so many genres together. Sittin' On Top of the World, Cream Puff War, Viola Lee Blues, Cold Rain and Snow, are all good in addition to The Golden Road.
Yeah, quite an original albums, in a certain way. Taking Roots songs, and playing them in a Psychedelic Blues rock form.

White heat is cool by me. (S)He's one of us now.

JonG 06-27-2005 11:44 PM

I guess I was never cool :(

Anybody like the J. Geils Band? Listened to Full House and it was pretty good..

I've been listening to old old Steve Miller too. Way better than his mainstream songs.

On the topic of early Steve Miller, you don't happen to have Sailor, do you? I can't find it anywhere.

JonG 06-27-2005 11:47 PM

Nope, that is one of the albums I want.. I'm pretty sure it's downstairs on vinyl, but no mixer to convert :(

White_heat 06-27-2005 11:48 PM

O.K O.K, enough talk about me. Someone might start saying some bad things

JonG 06-27-2005 11:52 PM

I just did a search JPJ and can't find it anywhere either...no torrents...nothing on BearShare.

You're cool, don't worry.

I was never a huge J. Geils Band fan, except for the song "Centrefold". After that (and I HATE HATE HATE using this term) they kinda sold out and went poppy.

JonG 06-28-2005 12:05 AM

I haven't heard anything but Full House. And that is pretty good.

Bump from the 3rd page

How the hell did we slide down to the 3rd page. Anyway, I am obsessed with CCR right now. Talk about how good they are.
Who in here listens to jazz on a semi-regular basis? I find myself listening to it just about every day now...usually on the radio late at night when I'm out with my friends. Jazz music is surprisingly great when you're stoned, probably my favourite kind of music to listen to except psychedelic.
I actually used to play guitar in the jazz band at my school, not that it was much fun, caus ehte music was way too simple, but i rwally enjoyed the band playing as a whole and jazz is pretty cool. I prefer the piano jazz like ragtime, adn some bebop- mostly dizzy gillespie. and of course Joplin and Basie

I've got Green River, Bayou Country, Willie and the Poorboys and a Greatest Hits album on vinyl. I think I might have another album of theirs on CD but I'm not sure where it is. I've been listening to them a lot too lately.

i do. mostly jazz fusion though. the instrumentation is excellent in all of it and the songs themselves are great too. mahavishnu orchestra is probably at the top of the heap for me.

have you guys heard of the mahavishnu project? theyre a mahavishnu orchestra cover band and they are almost as good. they add their own little twists to the songs as well.

/reply to old post because i dont really listen to ccr

Classic rock kicks ***... though it pisses me off that most classic rock fans are close minded to new music as well. Why not listen to both?

most of us in this thread are varied in our music tastes. jam bands arent classic rock, some of us listen to metal, some of us listen to recent stuff. if you go around in the various ysi threads youll see a good number of our regulars posting and asking for non-classic rock material.

All of us like music aside from classic rock. We were just talking about jazz last page actually. The people who only like classic rock don't last long in here.

Jazz is greater than psychedelia when stoned. (IMO) Not that I don't listin to Jazz when I'm sober but there's nothing quite like it when stoned. Now a days I probably find myself listining to a Jazz album a day. You basicly sumed up my feelings for Jazz aswell. Although none of my friends (or me) have car that I can listin to music of any kind and besides they won't even give Jazz a chance. :-/

CCR are kind of mediocre in my opinion. Although their cover of Heard It Through The Grapevine is cool in a way.
Is it just me, or does Fogerty say "heard" weird in that song?
