When I saw him he did "It Ain't Me Babe" and "Like a Rolling Stone" for the encore :D
It's awesome, now that I've finished it.

As for House of the Rising Sun, I realized it because my English teacher was giving us some silly slide show on the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression to go along with our reading of Grapes of Wrath (man that book is loooong), and he had some folk music playing. I'm thinking Guthrie, but I'm not sure. I was the only one who recognized it, but only because of they lyrics. It didn't sound remotely like the modern version. Heh.

Speaking about folk... er... can anyone recommend me some Dylan songs? Be kind, I'm not really familiar with his stuff.
I'm pretty sure the actual writer of House of the Rising Sun is unknown. I uploaded Dylan Live '75 in one of the YSI threads last Friday. I think it was Alt and Indie. It'll be a few pages back though.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean Guthrie wrote it. Just that he was the one I heard playing it.

I've been listening to Like a Rolling Stone, Blowing in the Wind, Hurricane, Knocking on Heaven's Door and now Mr. Tambourine Man. Good stuff, and a nice change of pace for me.

thickasabrick 06-27-2005 12:46 PM

If you are looking for a Dylan album, I'd suggest Blood on the Tracks first. Then maybe Freewheelin' or Blonde on Blonde.

Daniel! 06-27-2005 12:50 PM

For the guy that asked for a good ELP album a few pages back, you should get Karn Evil 9 or Tarkus. Both are good.

robo2448 06-27-2005 12:50 PM

Blood on the Tracks is my favorite, but I wouldn't start with that. I'd start with Highway 61 or a greatest hits.

Did you just go to Spain a few months ago? I have a rather stupid question: What kind of clothes to Spaniards wear? I hear that they are into business/formal wear just out on the streets and dress very nicely, and that if you wear shorts and a t-shirt out stick out like a sore thumb, is this true? I am going in a few weeks you see...

/has nothing to do with CR whatsoever

RobNY 06-27-2005 12:56 PM

Hrm, point me out to a good greatest hits compilation, so I don't miss the good songs.

Otherwise, it's usually better to get albums.

Do people say that Dylan's voice is hard to get into? I really like it.

Broken Arrow 06-27-2005 12:56 PM

So a awesome thing happened today. I was biking around my town, and apparently there is going to be a flea market every Monday in this big park, so my and my friends went in hoping to find some good stuff. I split with my friends when they went to look at paintball stuff. Then I saw this guy with a huge mullet and all these rows of CDs in front of him. I talked to him abit about music then looked at the CDs. There was lots of rare CDs and good classic rock albums. But I hardly had any money so I bought Pink Floyd: Muisc from the Film More. Its pretty good stuff. I've never seen it in stores.

lunch998 06-27-2005 12:58 PM

Send me some, I'll pay you for it later.

I recommended a Greatest Hits because most people do hate his voice. Personally, I could not think of a voice style that would fit his music better. I would just get Greatest Hits Vol. 1 to start since it is a very good intro of his early career despite being very short. Because it's so short you can probably find it very cheap. He also has more in-depth greatest hits CD's.

And More is supposed to be hard to find, though my Sam Goody has it. I should get that.

lunch998 06-27-2005 01:04 PM

I have a Borders that has More, but it's 18$ and there are many things on my CD list higher than it. Maybe when I get another big Amazon order I'll get it.

Yes More is down on my list too, I'm not in a rush to get it. And Borders is awesome. There's one like 15 minutes away from me, but my mom never takes me there. In a month when I get my license that will become my primary CD buying store.

You are so lucky you are getting it in a month, I was going to get mine in July, but then they pushed it back to August, and then a few minutes called and said "oops! Sorry! August is filled!" so by the time I get my license I will yet again be under the shackles of my High School

jpj 06-27-2005 01:23 PM

I still have to wait a year for my license. I'm getting my permit in the next couple weeks.

TheDMV 06-27-2005 01:38 PM

Borders is a Book Store right?

Barnes and Nobles is one of my favorite places to buy CD's. they have a very nice selection.

Badmoon 06-27-2005 01:42 PM
The Byrds didn't do it justice
I'd say it's got a lot more going for it than an Dylan's did.
Borders is a Book Store right?
Yea, in my town, there's a Borders on one side of the street and a B&N on the other side. I prefer Borders, but just for books and such; I have an independent CD shop to buy from.

Walrus Gumboot 06-27-2005 01:45 PM
I'd say it's got a lot more going for it than an Dylan's did.
I think the Byrds' version is more appealing and catchy, but it doesn't have the depth of the Dylan version, like the verses towards the end that make my head spin. To me, that was the main appeal of the song, but it didn't have the mass appeal of the Byrds' version

Badmoon 06-27-2005 01:48 PM

I think the meaning of "Mr. Tambourine" man doesn't even contain much depth, and that The Byrd's more Psychedelic sound seems to even relate with it more. (IMO)

BludgeonySteve 06-27-2005 01:49 PM

I just figure that the song's about a dude with a tambourine.

Then again i'm lazy :/

Actually I'm really unlucky. I turned 16 in September, so I should have gotten my license in March. It's a long story why I didn't

And Mr. Tambourine Man is supposedly about drugs.

Leper 06-27-2005 02:04 PM

A 60's song about drugs?? No way! I won't hear of it!

BludgeonySteve 06-27-2005 02:07 PM

Well, considering that 90% of 60s songs were about drugs, sex or stickin' it to the man which usually involves drugs and sex in a way: I'm not surprised.

Leper 06-27-2005 02:26 PM

Where I live there is a event called summerfest and it's a weekend of several different classic rock bands/artists. This year some of the bands there are Twisted Sister, Helix, Lou Graham, one of the former members of Supertramp..and some others i can't remember. I'd kind of like to go but tickets are expensive. I was just wondering how many of you guys have this type of thing where you live?

Daniel! 06-27-2005 03:01 PM
Borders is a Book Store right?

Borders full title is "Borders Books and Music"

I have a local shop that has super cheap prices and lots of used CDs so I usually go there, but if I can't find what I want I go to Borders. If they don't have it, There is a huge Record/CD/Tape store with used and new of all kinds called The Beat. It's about 30 minutes away though, so I can rarely go. When I do I usually just hang out for an hour or two.

Everyone does dress fairly nice there, in the big cities. No one would care if you aren't dressed in like designer clothes though...it's not like anyone there even speaks English. And the cities are so jam packed with people no one will even look twice at you usually. They do dress nice though, the girls always look really hot. They get tourists all the time, so they are used to all sorts of fashion.

Broken Arrow 06-27-2005 03:21 PM

I didnt have a place where I can buy music until now. There are also some pretty cool Live Cds/official bootlegs thingy of some late 60's early 70's Floyd. The Grateful Dead s/t was there for $15, should I have got that?

Well, I've never seen it in the box set, never by itself. So if you don't plan on getting the box set, I would get that.

Broken Arrow 06-27-2005 03:29 PM

And it does have the Golden Road on it which is awesome. There is some really cool stuff on More. Does anyone else have it?
