Well anyway I just got listining to Love's Forever Changes and I'm left speechless everytime I hear it. Not a weak song on the album IMO. I really just thought it was just "ok" at first but it's grown on my like a shroom. It's now probably in my top 5 favorite albums of the 60's. :)

Seafroggys 10-17-2005 11:26 PM

Do any of you consider Tower of Power Classic Rock? I think they are a kick ass band.

Never heard of them. Kind of a cheesy name if you ask me.
Do any of you consider Tower of Power Classic Rock? I think they are a kick ass band.
I've never heard them, I think I recall someone mentioning them in this thread a long time ago (maybe it was you..). If they are kick ass, and they are a rock band, I say you can consider them Classic Rock. Every Classic Rock band was a modern kick ass band at some point of time.

I've gotta go to bed, I just spent about an hour on two posts (my long quoted one, and one in a drug thread).

edit- cheesiest name I've ever heard was Supagroup...although they were a pretty cool band. I saw them when they opened for Alice Cooper, and although they were complete blatent AC/DC ripoffs (they even made references to the members of AC/DC and the band itself in their songs)...they really knew how to rock and/or roll.

Seafroggys 10-18-2005 12:01 AM

they are a funk/rock band from the 70s.

Download the song "What is Hip", that's their big hit. Pretty funky sound, lots of brass and stuff, but damn their rhythm section is killer.

Ya that name definitely takes the "cheese" cake. Hehe, that worked out nicely.

i didn't read every page but i hope someone has mentioned queen, possibly the best band of all time...and tower of power are awesome, the song diggin' on james brown is one of my favorites.

Queen have probably been mentioned somehwere, you can search for them I think. I dislike them though, I find them vastly over-rated.

On the other hand, I do like Tower Of power quite a lot, but the same goes for a lot of funk music.

Illmatic 10-18-2005 12:46 PM

Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of Tower Of Power, but I definitely know I've heard "What Is Hip"...or at least I've heard OF it.

PinkFreud 10-18-2005 12:50 PM

queens often brought up by people who stop in and state that theyve never been talked about. i like them, but i definitely burned out on them.

Illmatic 10-18-2005 12:59 PM

I try to space out my listenings of Queen...I do like them, though.

Is that with Stephen Stills, Mike Bloomfield, Al Cooper and maybe a few other guys I can't remember? If it is, I was looking at that on Amazon once, it sounds good.

My laptop battery died on me during the chat last night. The computer just automatically turned itself off, which means it didn't crash and none of my music got deleted:cool:
Hey guys post your favourite classic rock songs? I want to get a couple more decent classic rock songs on my playlist.. Cheers.
I can't choose just a couple songs. If your new to classic rock, start with The Beatles, they got me into classic rock. All of their cds are great, but personally I'd start by buying Rubber Soul, which is the cd that got me into them. The Who are also great for getting into classic rock. I see you have Morrison in you avatar, so you probably like The Doors, good choice. The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan... are also great for people new to classic rock.

Almost everyone here (besides me and a couple others) got into classic rock through Led Zeppelin and AC/ DC so you might want to check some of their stuff out. I personally have never liked either of them, but it got a bunch of people here into cr so it's worth a try.

Hope that helps.

Edit- Holy Shit EMH, how long did that take you to type out?

I might make a list of songs sometime soon

About six-seven minutes  I just sat there deciding what to put in and what not to put in, as to not take up the whole page.

Lunch 10-18-2005 02:43 PM

Perhaps it would be easier to list a few essential classic rock albums?

Edit: Did anyoen else notice YSI has a new window that keeps track of your uploads? It's pretty convenient.

JonG 10-18-2005 02:44 PM

That's what I was going to suggest...

Haha

sandman420 10-18-2005 02:46 PM
Queen's definitely been mentioned here. I like them, admittedly not as mush as I used to.
atleast you admit it.

And this has probally already been discussed but does anyone have a favourite Grateful Dead show, bootleg or whatever. I've been listening them live alot and every show they always seem different.

Lunch 10-18-2005 02:48 PM

I don't have that many of their bootlegs, but I really like the Closing of Winterland set. Great sound quality in addition to great playing and song selection.

JonG 10-18-2005 02:50 PM

Meh, there is so many shows. :) I actually don't listen to many bootlegs. I prefer studio albums. Just me though.

Woodstock 10-18-2005 02:53 PM
Good, I want that. The two songs you uploaded so long ago were great.
Yea, it's a great blues/funk album.

I just noticed YSI started that secondary window thing, too. Finally, they start helping the piraters.

Krabsworth 10-18-2005 03:02 PM

Wow, I've been listening to Freak Out! by Frank Zappa, and it's an AWESOME album.

I am not gonna make a huge list because I'm lazy, so I'll just list the essential albums, from my 4 favorite Classic Rock bands.

Allman Brothers-Eat a Peach, Live at the Fillmore
The Grateful Dead-American Beauty, Workingman's Dead, Live/Dead
Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here
Led Zeppelin-I, II

I think all of those were mentioned, I didn't see Aqualung or Thickasabrick though.

JonG 10-18-2005 03:27 PM

I was going to add them, but I was trying to even them all out. Otherwise I would've named a lot more Dead albums :P

jpj 10-18-2005 03:32 PM

Creedance Clearwater Revival-Cosmo's Factory
Emerson, Lake & Palmer-Tarkus
Yes-Fragile, Close to the Edge
Queen-A Night at the Opera

Supertramp-Crime of the Century?

I didn't see any of those.

Woodstock 10-18-2005 03:33 PM

RNR attempted to compile a list like that. I think he made a pretty good one, too.
