lol remember the MX marathons?
My favourite era for recent music is mid/early nineties, with Kyuss, Primus and Pantera (and others like RHCP, RATM and that) all writing (imo) their best albums.
It just seems to me that nobody's doing anything new these days. You had really unique genres and bands cropping up everywhere in the late 80s early 90s, and all that seems to have gone. You've lots of talented bands playing pretty much exactly the same as everyone else these days. It's as if modern music has become a way for producers to show off their protools skills. It seems like it's either bands doing what they do best or bands doing what other bands do best. Recent bands I'm listening to are the stoner bands I've been finding, Clutch and Down. That's about it /lol essay/rant
I hope youre not claiming Pantera were original dude. LOADS of bands from loads of genres are doing things new; just cause lots of bands fall into short lived pseudo trends doenst mean that all bands are all sounding the same in all genres. |
lol I'm not at all.
The bands I mentioned all have/had qualities in when they started out that, for me, are lacking in a lot of recent bands. It was a typical modern music rant, don't worry about it :p I'm just pretty peeved that I don't like so much of todays music is all :) |
I'm loving todays music, theres craploads of great bands around today who are also getting better and better.
|
Not really my thing a lot of it :(
That said, I've recently found a few bands (myspace mostly) that are exactly what I'm into. Just waiting for some of them to get big enough to tour is all :p |
Well, im into virtuoso guitar music and all varieties of Death Metal, so im currently very happy with todays music. In general.
|
Meh modern musics alright, Maiden, Muse, Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, should have new albums this year, and Gilmore, Pearl Jam, Dresdon Dolls have released great albms already, so i'm pretty happy.

Im up and ready for exams, oooh yeah

Yeah, I can't class exactly which type of music fan you are, Pat, but you sure do see alot of them about.
|
It's frustrating when there's band after band releasing albums with bluey/grey/silver photoshopped covers, two guitarists and a singer who either screams or shouts. Anyway ... 'sup thread? |
It's frustrating when you see band after band like Trivium.
It's not a thing to aspire to. |
'xactly.
That said, I'd rather Heafy screamed, because his singing voice is so foul (see 'The End' off've that Roadrunner United cd). He sounds like a sopping cow. Come to think of it, though they have some good bands on their books it's Roadrunner that purpotrate most of the foulidity, which isn't good when you have them winning "Ungh, Best Label Award, Urnghgnghgnhg!!" Did you hear Bullet For My Valentine's cover of Domination? I'm sorry, but the whole 'we're doing our own interpretation of the song' argument doesn't wash; if it's Pantera you're doing, you're not bringing yourself into the music, you're playing it wrong. |

Roadrunner have some good bands on there
King Diamond, Megadeth, Cradle of filth, Michale Graves, erm... Opeth and Machine head aren't bad either. |
They do, lots of shit too, unfortunately
|
Dragonforce are on Roadrunner, well at least in the U.S they are.
|
For every good band Roadrunner have, there's a bad one in waiting.
How Within Temptaion are on that label still is beyond me |
