Why are their icecreams in plastic bags?

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 11:56 AM

not too much. Work is extremely slow today with all the flooding in the area.

No food + cigarettes = angry stomach

Roger_Waters 06-29-2006 12:06 PM

maybe you should give up smoking.
Where I live they are banning smoking in 2 days time (yes!)

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:09 PM

banning, as in they arent selling tabacco products any longer?

Sounds like tyranny to me. I realize i SHOULD stop smoking, but its ultimately my choice

overturned 06-29-2006 12:13 PM

I can live with smoking, I don't see why the government puts all its efforts (alright, obviously not all) into banning smoking yet neglects other areas. I mean as long as someone aint doing it square in my face I couldn't care less.

I mean, we keep bashing on about health foods but theres no ban on eating a Big Mac in public or ordering an extra side of chips/fries in a (rather lower class) restaurant.

I mean they suggest raising the legal buying age yet at the same time some 12 year old could stroll into Tescos right now and buy a reasonably sharp knife right now, few to no questions asked.

Roger_Waters 06-29-2006 12:17 PM

well smoking is quite a common thing, and its mainly because of the effects of passive smoking that it is being banned, and it doens't smell nice. I had going out in the evening then coming back stinking of smoke. And passive smoking is unhealthy for you.

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:19 PM

I dont mind them banning it in some bars, restaurants, whatever. Its a form of control that they have no business being a part in. If a bar smells of smoke, and i didnt like it, i guarentee you id never go back.

Same with anything really. If it doesnt fit my fancy, ill find somewhere else. I try to be considerate at all times when im smoking

They are trying to ban it in public, while outside. Whats the arguement there?

Its descrimination

Roger_Waters 06-29-2006 12:22 PM

not outside, only in public places, bars, restaurants, work etc. But if it was my decision i'd ban it everywhere and ban the sale of cigarettes

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:24 PM

I find that attitude amusing. You feel it doesn't limit your rights, so you have no problem with it.

its only going to get worse, and branch out into other areas until it directly affects you, and you are on the other side of the fence for a change

overturned 06-29-2006 12:24 PM

Yeah, but eating the "wrong" things or at least too much is unhealthy for you. Violent crime doesn't look nice nor to a certain extent is it healthy for you.

I mean, theys two hot topics in the news recently but the measures the government is taking against them is neither as harsh or widespread as that of smoking.

I mean, c'mon, we all know smoking is bad for you so they removed commercials to deter smokers. Yet we still allow fast food giants to advertise at major events.
Not to sound like I'm picking on em but the recent McDonalds campaign blatently said "Watch football and eat the biggest bloody burger you can buy". Discouraging physical fitness/activity and encouraging mass unhealthy eating.

I understand your point and to an extent I'd like to see smoking baned in most public places but youns gotta see my point here as to how the way smoking is tackled seems awfully one sided.

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:27 PM

i definitely see the correlation you are trying to make. I know in my area, thankfully the mayor of this fair city is a smoker, thus he veto'd the bill.

Theres exists a level of descrimination against smokers by non-smokers, which kinda makes sense to me.

Once i state my belief that i have a problem with obese people, im immediately labeled superficial, and dismissed by many. For me, these two situations are closer than most would like to believe

Roger_Waters 06-29-2006 12:27 PM

yeah those mcdonlads adverts are silly. But at least our government is doing somehting, that is banning smoking (by the way i'm referring to the government in guernsey, not the english parliament)

overturned 06-29-2006 12:30 PM

I doubt the policies differ too heavily to be fair.

The Black Fist 06-29-2006 12:31 PM

in Toronto we just have horrendous anti-smoking laws; at the moment you can only smoke outside and in your own house, but they're trying to SOMEHOW think of a way to ban smoking inside any building with a roof (including personal property). Can't smoke at bars, in restaurants, anything

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:31 PM

yea, so lets bog down our officials with trivial issues, such as smoking and bannings, instead of pin pointing issues that are actually relavent.

still doesnt sound absurd to you. Non-smokers feel they have a RIGHT to not breath in smoke when they go out in public. Thats fine and dandy i suppose, but you are literally limiting someone else's rights to achieve that. If thats not a contradiction, i dont know what is

edit : someone needs to organize this "smoking" party, and do some kind of non-violent protest

something about 100 people going into one restaurant, and chain smoking brings a smirk to my face

(*The Noonward Race*) 06-29-2006 12:32 PM

Winnipeg has a public smoking law. Hm.

just ban the sale of cigarettes.

(*The Noonward Race*) 06-29-2006 12:35 PM

haha you'd want an entire city to go cold turkey on nicotine at once ?

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:36 PM

well, i get weed illegally. If i have to do the same with cigarettes, so be it

Father_Jack 06-29-2006 12:36 PM

Hey guys, can't be arsed starting a new thread for this really so... I have been doing alot of bluesy improv lately, but then when it comes to solos in anything else it usually comes out bluesy as well. So just wondering if any of you could upload some of your favourite rock/metal backing tracks. The ones on guitar bt are pretty hit and miss, and half of them don't tell you what key they are in.

Cheers.

overturned 06-29-2006 12:38 PM

But then you'd turn the cigarette industry into what is now the illegal drug industry. There would be little towards nothing in the way of regulation or control, crime would then increase as there would have to be new laws brought in over the dramatic increase in the now illegal cigarette trade.

Its simple economics as to why that will not at this point in time work.
Cutting off legal supply will not stop demand.

/leaves for Chinese food

kurrpt'd 06-29-2006 12:40 PM

i dont see how the draw the line with smoking tbh. I do worse things, that are more detrimental to my health everyday than lighting up about 7 times a day.

Amit 06-29-2006 01:01 PM

smoking will become unpopular to the point of a mere triviality

JoshIsNumber3 06-29-2006 01:02 PM

Just like popped collars

:upset:

Nick 06-29-2006 01:04 PM

sup

do any of you guys have a decent jazz fake book in pdf that you could upload?

I've come to the conclusion that before I'm able to get my head around this stuff I'm going to need to see how it's applied and learn the songs

but I can't be bothered to go out and get an actual printed one

and I don't really want to drop $40 on one

nvm I'm dling on limewire

I_go_by_mikee 06-29-2006 01:10 PM

sup guys.

Dave Matthews Band last night was pretty awesome, such a long concert though.

JoshIsNumber3 06-29-2006 01:16 PM

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize they are not a pop single band but a quasi-jam band.

what again 06-29-2006 01:17 PM

haha if all america bans smoking then american economy will go down like paris hilton haha
