If you check out maudlin of the Well, also look into Kayo Dot's Choirs of the Eye.

Grey Incision 07-04-2007 08:22 AM

:thumb: thanks

GenuineImitation 07-04-2007 08:49 AM

If you are looking for some dark and ambient metal, you may want to check out ISIS and Neurosis as well.

XSebbyMcMuffinX 09-27-2007 08:03 AM

Yesterday, I actually checked my myspace friend requests from bands (I usually put it off for a while after getting them) and I got a request from a REALLY good metal band that has a great deal of depth in their music. Oblique Rain. I highly recommend them. I added their album to sputnik.

jrowa001 09-27-2007 09:25 AM

are their any other meal bands similar to Running Wild? bands that are pirate influenced?

dUSK 09-27-2007 11:00 AM

There's a band here called Scuurvy that are a 'pirate metal band'. They dress up like pirates on stage and all that. It's awesome to sink a few beers to, though they're just recording their EP at the moment, so at this stage they're probably not really what your looking for.

I'm not aware of anything else that would be fitting though.

blueyxd 09-28-2007 01:43 AM

Thyrfing.. they are viking metal, but it can sound pretty piratey.

Meatplow 09-28-2007 01:46 AM

Anybody know any bands similar to Joy Division?

Apocalyptic Raids 09-28-2007 01:52 AM

New Order (they're Joy Division minus Ian Curtis)
Echo & The Bunnymen

Interpol frequently get compared to them too, although they're much more modern. Check out Turn on the Bright Lights, it's an excellent album.

blueyxd 09-28-2007 01:56 AM

Depeche Mode... possibly. I'm not too sure..

Tyler 09-28-2007 08:00 AM

There's a band from Calgary that fits into the 'yarr' criteria, but the name escapes me.

thanks and @ bluey

Apocalyptic Raids 09-28-2007 08:21 AM

I would hope so.

jrowa001 09-28-2007 09:11 AM

thanks for the recommendations. i found some other bands that were pirate metal, Battleheart, Verbal Deception, and Swashbuckle. all are pretty good

Tyler 09-28-2007 09:31 AM

Verbal Deception is the band I was referring to.

Angmar 09-28-2007 12:25 PM

Does anyone know of any like ambient metal bands that are instrumental? Not that I am bothered by vocals at all but I think that would be cool.

Kage 09-28-2007 12:27 PM

You might try http://www.myspace.com/hyatari

EDIT: But not all their albums are instrumental.

Angmar 09-28-2007 12:29 PM

I'll check out em later since the school computers have myspace blocked. Thanks though.

Kage 09-28-2007 12:30 PM

There's more, I'll try and think of some.

Angmar 09-28-2007 12:31 PM

I looked em up and MA and they sound cool, I'll be sure to give em a listen.

The Dark Philosopher 11-06-2007 12:03 AM

Thoughts on Human Fortress?

Also what is the best helloween album?

Riva 11-06-2007 08:57 AM
Thoughts on Human Fortress?
Great power metal band. Knights In Shining Armour is an epic song. Definitely get Defenders of the Crown.
Also what is the best helloween album?
Keeper Of The Seven Keys or Walls Of Jericho.

The Dark Philosopher 11-06-2007 02:08 PM

Ahh, yes I have heard Knights In Shining Armour and loved it. Are most of their songs that good? Thanks Riva.

Riva 11-06-2007 06:18 PM

Most of the songs on the album are of similar quality, though not quite as good as Knights In Shining Armour. And you're very welcome.

gillygan 11-06-2007 08:55 PM

I've been on the lookout for some British rap for a while. All I have is Foreign Beggars. Any recommendations for something accessible?

Or any other rap? My favorites are:

Atmosphere
Brother Ali
Deltron 3030
JMT
Jurassic 5
Nas
Non Phixion

Wu-Tang Clan... not British

Angmar 11-06-2007 09:01 PM

I'm looking for some soft ambient music that is instrumental, in the vein of Hlidskjalf or the Ildjarn ambient albums, just looking for more relaxing music.

Deth 11-06-2007 09:02 PM

Eluvium is the only one I can offer, but they're (he's?) great.

Angmar 11-06-2007 09:04 PM

Yeah I have Copia and Talk Amongst the Trees, good stuff.

Preferably something a little darker maybe?

NemesisDivina 11-06-2007 09:05 PM

 Rainfall... you'll fall asleep within seconds

/snore

Angmar 11-06-2007 09:14 PM
I assume you're familiar with Anathema too?
Indeed but they aren't really instrumental ambient...

Riva 11-06-2007 11:08 PM

And I'm guessing you know Nest already also, right?

Kitaro, Gandalf, and Mike Oldfield's first four albums will do you nicely, I think.

Tyler 11-06-2007 11:09 PM

TUUUUUUUUUUBULAR BELLS

srsly.

Well there are some "vocals" but it's not like you'll notice them.

Riva 11-06-2007 11:11 PM

I was actually hesitant at first to mention Tubular Bells simply because of the rock guitar midway through Part One, and the Piltdown Man section in Part Two. But Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn and Incantations should be right up his alley.

Angmar 11-06-2007 11:22 PM

Alright I shall check both of those out, if there are some vocals it is fine, instrumental was just my preference.

ATM 11-07-2007 09:27 AM

Boards of Canada might be up your alley.

Tyr 11-07-2007 09:39 AM

Harold Budd, Arvo Pärt and Brian Eno, too.

the2stranger 11-10-2007 01:40 PM

Can anyone recommend me some nice neofolk bands and albums.
I enjoy Nest, but never checked anything else. I really enjoy the nature feel of Nest, so yeah.

Thanks in advance. :)

Nostalgia 11-10-2007 01:58 PM

Empyrium - Where At Night the Wood Grouse plays
Fire & Ice - Gilded By the Sun
Sol Invictus - The Death of the West
October Falls - Marras (This is all acoustic folk, but I know you would love it).

Would you like me to send you some of these will the Loss and Doom: VS?

jebus FX 11-10-2007 02:01 PM
