I found a cassette of old school Beatles tracks today in my room and was listening to it in my car. Songs like Love Me Do and Eight Days a Week, and the like. Hehe, so poppy and fun.

Seafroggys 10-25-2005 12:11 AM

hey some of that early stuff is pretty damn good

my favs are Please PLease Me, Twist and SHout, I feel fine, hard day's night, I should have known better, and I love her....all pre Rubber Soul stuff....

DeusExMachina 10-25-2005 11:09 AM

I really like listening to One to get a good sense of the evolution of the band.

Seafroggys 10-25-2005 05:31 PM

One was my second CD, and I don't really like it. All their really really good singles (Revolution, Strawberry Fields Forever, the Inner Light, etc.) isn't on there. And the whole concept of the CD is fraud anyway, since their first number #1 hit isn't even on there (please please me), and love me do, something, and come together never made it to #1.

I'd much rather get both Past Masters, that way you have all their singles on two CDs.

El_Goodo 10-25-2005 07:09 PM

Speaking of tapes! My friend had some beatles tapes and I put them in his tape player...haha and his tape player appareantley is screwed. And it was played in ultra slow motion, on the song "Don't Bother Me" sounded like it was sung by Satan. It was pretty funny.

Meh. It's not amazing, but for what it is, I think One is quite good.

Seafroggys, you're seeing Paul in 11 days? That's awesome. What area of the country is that?

robo2448 10-25-2005 07:16 PM

1 got me into the Beatles. So it has special significance for me. My parents had it, I liked it a lot and got Rubber Soul and then I really started getting into the Beatles.

blue3 10-26-2005 04:29 PM

I lost my One CD awhile ago.

El_Goodo 10-26-2005 04:33 PM

One also got me into The Beatles...I dont know why i bought it, but I was christmas shopping and there was a deal. And I bought it...I dont know what made me buy it though. But I loved it :)

Divine intervention, clearly.

JonG 10-26-2005 05:36 PM

My first Beatles album was Revolver. Even though I was raised on them, I knew practically every song off Rubber Soul, Sgt. Peppers, Abbey Road.

Jacaranda 10-26-2005 05:42 PM

My first was Sgt. Peppers although in 3rd grade while playing N64 me and my best friend would listen to Yellow Submarine from One on repeat. Which is one of the main reasons why I hate that song now. I heard it for about 2 hours each day for like 6 a year before we discovered the CD had more good songs.

I can barely stand listening to that song once.

DeusExMachina 10-26-2005 08:52 PM

Psh. I enjoy that song. Screw you guys! :stick out tongue:

But in all honesty, I agree. It's not one of their stronger releases by any means.

blue3 10-26-2005 10:46 PM

I still like the song though.

November 4th....Portland Oregon! yeah!

Also, to an above poster, mentioning the 1 album coming out during 3rd grade? Dude your so young. It came out my 8th grade year, which seems like awhile ago. 3rd grade was 10 years ago for me, long time ago.

Leper 10-26-2005 11:47 PM

Never said it wasn't good, I quite enjoy listening to their early stuff.

/late :-/

blue3 10-26-2005 11:52 PM

Yeah, the early stuff are good. If I Fell, Twist and Shout and Hard Day's Night are awesome songs.

One came out when I was in 4th grade..

Leper 10-27-2005 12:16 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if Lennon blew out his voice when recording Mr. Postman. He really goes all out on that song!

I just checked and it would have been the summer before 4th grade I think for me. I actually thought it came out in the 90's. Wow 2000 seems like along time ago.
I wish I would've known who George Harrison is before he died.

Ephemeral 10-27-2005 09:53 AM

I wish I could see Paul McCartney live. I doubt he will ever come up to Canada.

The closest I've got, is seeing the Beatles tribute band 'Rain'.

:/

Seafroggys 10-27-2005 11:13 AM

George Harrison died about 3 days after my 15th b-day. I cried a lot, it was really painful for me, seeing as how for over two years I was completly in love with them.

:/
Yeah I'm seeing Rain in a few months. I also saw this other tribute band called 'Rubber Soul'. They were pretty good.

Paul McCartney is going to Canada, to Toronto, I think.

DeusExMachina 10-27-2005 09:14 PM

I don't remember how old I was when 1 came out, but I'm a senior now. Meh.

Harrison is amazing. I love that guy. It's a real shame that he passed away.

The Johnny Cash cover of In My Life. Totally amazing.

Seafroggys 10-27-2005 10:54 PM

In My Life is one of their best.....easily the best on Rubber Soul, and IMO the best pre MMT song.

blue3 10-27-2005 11:03 PM

Yeah, In My Life is a great song. I haven't heard Johnny Cash's cover..

Leper 10-27-2005 11:08 PM

As a matter of fact In My Life just so happens to be my favourite Beatles song. Has been since I was very young too.

Same here man. My dad let me borrow it about 2 years ago and I didn't listen to anything else for quite a while.
Yeah, In My Life is a great song. I haven't heard Johnny Cash's cover..
I generally don't like most cover songs, but this one is great. You need to check it out.

blue3 10-28-2005 12:13 AM

I heard about 30 seconds clip of it. It was okay.. Maybe I need to listen to the whole thing.

DeusExMachina 10-28-2005 03:41 PM

I don't know, some people may not like it. But I think it's amazing.

Aceduck 10-28-2005 06:53 PM

Funny story about "Yellow Submarine"

When I was in sixth grade, I got in trouble for something so I had to wash a bunch of muddy gym equipment. So I was in this janitor's closet thing hosing down all the equipment, and I started singing "Yellow Sumbarine" and 3 teachers came out and told me to stop because I was disturbing their class.

Well it's funny to me, anyway...

Classic case of identity theft

I'd die laughing if some n00b got my fish eye avatar

I also wish I fully appriciated who Harrison was before he died.

I also wish I haddn't found out about Rosa Parks's death two days after. I really need to watch more news

TheDMV 10-28-2005 09:12 PM

One was my first Beatles album as well. It's Destiny. And the immaturaty of thinking that buying compilations is your best bet. One is a top quality Album, though.

rockinbass17 10-28-2005 09:16 PM

My mom just brought home some old vinyls form my grandparent's house. Among them were two albums recorded before Ringo, with Pete Best. One is a live show from Hammburg, the other is a studio album (I think). I can't listen to them, cause my stupid needle is broken, but it's still really cool.

Those might be worth something

JonG 10-28-2005 09:24 PM

I got some Beatles on vinyls, not singles though..
