I remember you posted that first stencil a while ago, and I commented on the optical illusion-ness of it.

Lukeh 01-19-2006 01:15 PM

I just finished a Streetlight Manifesto tee that I'm pretty proud of that I made with some fabric pens (hence there being no stencil marks left). Here they are:

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d10/Lukehh/SLMtee1.jpg - front
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d10/Lukehh/SLMtee2.jpg - back

Can anybody spot the mistake that I made?

On the back, the light is filled in with red.

That mistake kind of bugs me, but it's not a big deal. Other than that, it's good.

Argh damn, not so subtle then... It drove me mad when I realised what I'd done and I kept trying to scratch the ink off or get it off with water but it didn't work :( I need to get some white fabric paint soon methinks.

That's the one. That first one's good. It's probably the one Brad's looking for.

What kind of paint should I buy to paint the soles of my shoes?

coheneran 01-19-2006 04:44 PM
What kind of paint should I buy to paint the soles of my shoes?
Tartan paint. And you should buy some rubber nails and a glass hammer as well. Oh, and a skirting board ladder. WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO PAINT THE SOLES?!

Where/why do I get those? I don't really know why I want to paint the soles, it just kind of occurred to me and I thought it seems cool.

RudeBoyStompin 01-19-2006 04:53 PM
Look in this thread, nearly everyone who makes patches or shirts has to do a Crass one.
I made a Crass shirt. I don't really like it as much anymore because it's all letters. It was early in my stenciling career. And I don't like Crass quite as much as I did before.

It will rub/flake/dirty up quickly, and no one would see it anyway, unless you are an out-of-work acrobat who specialises at walking on his hands. Those suggestions I said to buy were jokes. Tartan is a pattern of colours aranged in lines like you get on Scottish kilts, you can't get tartan paint in a can, because it's made up of three different colours. And what are rubber nails gonna nail? And a glass hammer? C'mon dude, pay attention.

Sorry, I is stupid. I didn't know what tartan is, i thought you meant special nails for hammering them through soles, and by the time I got to glass hammer I was just too confused.

Anyway, I know it probably won't work that good, but for some reason I just like the idea of Fugazi or Bad Brains on the soles of my shoes. I really don't know why, lol. So I guess basically I'm looking for the most durable paint so it won't rub off.

It WILL get scuffed and covered up in dirt. I draw on my boots. It is fnu (fnu = dyslexic fun).

Led-ZeppelinIV 01-19-2006 05:26 PM

I suppose. And I just thought about problems with walking on carpet. Do you think regular spraypaint would work on the sides of my shoes? They're chucks (I know, I know, but they're leopard print so it's an even trade). I'm going to stencil that Bad Brains logo on stencil punx onto it.

It'll work, just don't go wading through any puddles filled with washing powder.

Led-ZeppelinIV 01-19-2006 05:28 PM

Cool. Anything in particular that would work better? I live near a paint store.

thing about this band (for me) is... do they really have any material that sets them apart from CV/LOC?
In my mind, they're really nothing more than a clone (insert Riot/Clone pun).
If you've got any materieal that might sway me I'm more than willing to listen to it, but as of right now - it has been done better and before. (the same could be said for 99% of the bands in my collection, but this comparison stands out for an as yet undefined reason.)

EDIT:
just realizing the topic of this thread, I have this to offer:

4+ hours boiled rice can be made into a paste that can be used to hold your hairstyle in place.

Why waste delicious rice on your hair if you can eat it?!

Anarcho Poser 01-19-2006 10:24 PM

I hate rice. It's so bland. I only eat it with taco bell sauce in it.

RIP Ian Curtis 01-19-2006 11:06 PM

Better hair paste is starch + sugar in water. Then iron the style, works especially well on mohawks. But seeing as I'm a new-wave gayboy, I use hairspray.
Why waste delicious rice on your hair if you can eat it?!
What if you're Chinese (like Kevin) and have nothing but rice, and no hairgel?

I'm sorry Kevin, I am trying to stop.

If you post the image, I can make it.

So anyway, I'm cutting the bad brains stencil now, I'll probably paint it tonight. Post pics tomorrow if I do.

it's the lettering there, not the picture. But i'd like it all horizontally or whatever, so it doesn't slant down. Thanks.

Led-ZeppelinIV 01-20-2006 11:18 PM

Cool, I'll get on that.

It's good, but it just seems like because of all the paint it would be uncomfortable to wear.

I agree^^

Also, I think asdf should be Queen of DIY.

Ghostfire3 01-21-2006 12:07 AM

I think that's a pretty fair title for her. She's like the most DIY person here, from what I've seen.

asdf 01-21-2006 12:10 AM

I humbly accept :)
